We had a really great northern lights trip with Greenlander. Our guide Arbo really went the extra mile to take us to a special, private spot with reflections of the water. He made hotdogs and hot chocolate for us and took some incredible professional photographs. The northern lights themselves were a little bit visible to the naked eye and pretty incredible in the photos. I would definitely recommend the tour company.

Positive experience with Greenlander! Kerttu and Markus were prompt in answering questions and booking the tour. Our guide Arbo was amazing. The day of our tour, it was snowing and completely overcast. Arbo never gave up. We were out for 8 hours hunting the lights. He was constantly checking his info and we found the lights three times, once with great intensity. Super nice guy and great photographer too! When leaving Tromso, we met a lady at the airport who took a different company’s group tour three nights in a row and never saw the lights. She should have booked one night with Greenlander. They are the best!

Nature was kind to give us a few hours of clear skies and we were lucky to see and photograph beautiful auroras. But Markus’ efforts to find the possible spot while taking care of everything our family could need, from lending me a tripod, providing tips to improve our photos, having food and thermal suits for everyone, made for a memorable amazing experience !! Totally recommended if you want to treat your dear ones with a unique adventure!

Absolutely the best northern lights tour to go on. Markus is beyond brilliant. We found the lights on a night it seems every other company cancelled due to the inclement conditions. But not Markus. He was on time and ready. The lights were spectacular. Markus knows every camera setting, knows how to hunt the lights, made a great meal. It was by far the best time we had. If you want the best tour - bar NONE contact Markus at Greenlander. Thank you Markus for the best time.

Markus was an excellent guide. He included everyone. He helped us optimize our camera settings. He provided a comfortable evening for our group of 8. He knows the land, weather and where to view...what a wonderful experience. I would recommend to anyone who wants to view and photograph the lights!!

The day started out with low clouds and a bit drizzly as we began our tour with Markus. Who would have thought what perfect weather that could be for enjoying the absolute beauty of the mountains and fjords! We had a great day with Markus as our guide and photographer. We had expected a few photos to be snapped along the way, but what a talented photographer Markus is! And he knew ALL the most beautiful places to visit. The tour was a photo shoot, good conversation, enjoyable walks and a magnificent peek into the beauty of the island of Kvaloya. Thank you, Markus!

Myself and two grown up sons recently had both a private fyord tour and a Northern Lights tour with Greenlander. Markus was our guide and what a jewel he is. He is so passionate about so many subjects relating to the tours. His knowledge was amazing, his patience was boundless and what a photographer! Greenlander are apparently a small independent company and it is obvious that they feel the need to provide a level of service of the highest order and they succeed. I would recommend them wholeheartedly-you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you Marcus and team for an amazing experience. Marcus was very accommodating and picked us up from the airport. Despite setting off later than we would've liked, he was very keen to get us the best chance possible to seeing the lights! Marcus was very knowledgeable about the lights and knew how to read the satellite data - again increasing our chances. We had lovely homemade soup, cookies and hot chocolate and snow suits were provided so we didn't feel the cold. Photography was also included in the price, meaning we could enjoy the moment and not worry about trying to catch everything on camera. Marcus was very attentive to our needs the whole time he was with us and gave us a wonderful experience as a family that we will never forget.

Just an amazing night it was! Perfect. We drove for about one hour and after Jurre Jan had parked the car, we looked around: a beautiful spot, so quiet. The light came rather quickly and kept going. The fire was nice and warm, the soup and hot chocolate also where! Thanks for this wonderful night.

What a great decision we made going with Greenlander. The week we went, Tromso was affected by uncharacteristic severe arctic storms. Despite this Marcus from Greenlander, went above and beyond to ensure we saw the lights. He provided excellent communication and rescheduled our dates free of charge in order to give us the best chance of seeing the lights, despite the weather. His communication was so friendly helpful and informative, and he genuinely wanted to help us have a wonderful time. On the night we were given the best northern lights tour guide in Tromso, Arbo! Not only was Arbo knowledgable about basically anything and everything to do with the Aurora, Astrology and Science, he was also a fantastic driver and a phenomenal photographer. His extensive knowledge and skills came in so handy on the night, and he was able to track down the only gap in cloud cover for hundreds of kilometres around. He also timed the journey to perfection and we shown the most spectacular display of the Aurora. Something I did not expect to happen, considering how terrible the weather was the entire week we spent in Tromso. We booked a private tour with our 1 year old baby, and Greenlander provided a carseat, protective clothing, a wonderful campfire, as well as delicious food and drinks for the whole journey. The experience was unsurpassed and our baby had a wonderful time on the night as well. There are a lot of tour groups offering Aurora chases in Tromso, but if you are looking for a highly professional, personalised and friendly company, I would not look further than Greenlander !

Amazing. Markus is very nice and really knowledgeable. We saw amazing places and the images of the mountains reflecting in the fjords are the best photos I’ve ever taken.

We booked a private tour because we have a young child and were staying 30 minutes outside of Tromso. Markus was our guide; he is a great guide who loves what he does! Markus picked us up our at our Airbnb. Prior to picking us up, he had tracked the Northern Lights activity and the weather maps, and came up with a game plan with possible viewing spots, which he reviewed with us. The weather was clear, so we didn't have to drive far. Markus took us to a beach/camp site, lit a warm fire, and set up chairs. Early in the night there wasn't much activity, and there was a full moon makes seeing the lights more difficult. Markus is a very experienced guide and kept checking for updates. He was confident we were in a good spot. While we waited for the activity to increase, Markus engaged in great conversation, sharing his knowledge of the Tromso area and the science behind the lights, which was very interesting. He masterfully kept the fire going, served up delicious soup and cookies, and hot chocolate and tea. We saw the Northern Lights multiple times over the course of 4 hours. In addition to being a wonderful guide and enthusiastic storyteller, Markus is a fantastic photographer. He took amazing photos of the Northern Lights, which were shared with us the next morning. This tour was worth every penny. Do yourself a favor and book a tour with Greenlander!

I booked Greenlander in November 2023 due to its amazing reviews (I booked directly with them). I loved their 97% success rate and wanted to be able to see the lights in all their beauty. I booked the general northern lights tour with the smallest group in Tromso and it ended up being a private tour as two people had cancelled. There were 6 of us and I accidentally had booked it for the wrong date and when JJ called me asking me if I was on my way, we all sprung into action as we couldn't do a different date and scrambled to get ready! JJ was very patient, despite it being my mistake, he offered to collect us from our accommodation giving us time to get ready. He collected us in a very comfortable, warm Mercedes Benz van which had capacity for 8-9 people in total! He was very friendly and very professional and got us going quickly on the hunt for the northern lights. When viewing the northern lights, the naked eye does not see the lights the same way the camera does and its important to be aware of this. You are more likely to see the green and red hues rather than in all its glory and you aren't guaranteed to see them as they are a natural phenomenon. We were so lucky that despite it being cloudy, we got to see the most amazing lights! JJ lit a fire and had some delicious vegetarian soup and crackers for us and we were also given the option to wear snowsuits and boots to stay warm. He even stopped off on the way home quickly at a shop for us allowing us to nip in and get some milk. For me personally, JJ's enthusiasm at capturing the northern lights on camera sold it to me. He is genuinely passionate about his work and has a wealth of knowledge on how to find them. He's very interesting to speak to and you can clearly see he enjoys what he does thoroughly! The only thing I would point out is that once you are out there, there are no toilets so potentially limit the amount you hydrate yourselves. The experience is up to you in regards to how long it lasts and you can end it early. I would definitely recommend Greenlander to anyone visiting Tromso and really appreciate JJ's flexibility and happy demeanour throughout our entire experience! You also get all the photos he captures the very next day and they are amazing shots. I have attached some for reference. Thanks so much!

Greenlander people are the most incredible ones to have this experience. Although the bad weather conditions, Marcus leads us to the one of the best moments of our lifes: the northern lights. We will come back for sure! Thanks for so much!

We arranged for a private tour for two. Because it was a private tour we were picked up from our hotel in Tromsø, the Radisson Blu at 7pm which was the time we had agreed upon. We had Markus as our tour guide and he was so great! A great person to talk to, he was so knowledgeable of the area and the science behind the lights! He is also such a talented photographer. It took about 2 hours to get out to where we could see the lights, we went toward Dividalen. We spent the time chasing clear skies to give us the best visibility. As you may know, there is no guarantee you get to see the lights but we got incredibly lucky and saw the varying colors of greens and purples. Markus did his due diligence to give us the best possible chances of seeing the lights by talking amongst his peers, checking weather reports and satellite activity all in real time. Although, tough to see the colors with the naked eye the photographs were breathtaking. Markus was nice enough to promptly provide our photos within the same day! This tour also came with one pleasant surprise. It was a proposal where my now fiancé asked me to marry him! And it was incredible to experience that under the northern lights. He says that communication leading up to the day was great and incredibly helpful. Since we don’t come from an Arctic climate you can imagine he had a ton of questions. Although we came prepared, Markus had extras of all items you could think of (jackets, boots, etc.) in case we needed them. Toward the end, once we took in all the excitement of the lights we were served soup, a Norwegian cracker/ bread, there was hot chocolate and yummy cookies too! Overall a beautiful and special night that couldn’t have been done without Greenlander Tromsø. We will be back!!

We booked a private tour with Greenlander b/c I had two young kids I wanted to bring a long on the experience and had no idea how they'd do. Also, with our group having 6 people, it wasn't a TON more just to book a private tour and man was it worth every penny. We actually came in April and weren't going to arrive in time for Greenlander's last tour. I didn't realize this when I emailed requesting a private tour and they were kind enough to offer to do one extra day in their season so we could experience the Northern Lights with them! I didn't realize at the time our guide had booked tickets home on that Tuesday and he was adding a Monday night tour for us so he ended up not sleeping for something like 30 hours so really can't express how much we appreciate their generosity in accommodating us. On top of that, we weren't having great luck early in the night, and headed into Finland. In fact our guide was in constant communication with guides of other companies to see where they were seeing lights and soon after midnight most turned back to Tromso and gave up. Not our guide. He wanted us to experience the lights and wrap his season with success. I see now why he has a 98% success rate. He's so determined and persistent, using all sorts of tools, reports and science to figure out when and where we'd see the lights. And even though he still had to pack to go home the next day and totally had good reason to call it a night, he persisted. And boy was it worth it, the skies finally cleared and we saw the most amazing lights dancing across the skies. It was absolutely incredible!! Our 5 year old said it looked just like Frozen :-) We did a lot of research on other tours and I can't recommend Greenlander enough. So many of our friends after on other tours in Tromso and other places said they missed the lights -- seems like the trick is to go small group with an experienced guide who is passionate about this work and determined to give you a good experience. I didn't even mention the delicious soup he brought and cookie and hot chocolate for the kids. Really such a wonderful experience, it was the highlight of our trip. So whether you go private or with his small group, just book it. It was the best money we've spent in recent memory in our travels, in Norway and beyond!

Markus took me to a wild bog in Estonia for a night show - seeing auroras in this geographical region is a rarity. Yet he managed to figure out the right time and place to see the phenomenon in its full glory. What made it extra, was the pulsing of the auroras that really made us to gaze with awe. Fantastic journey together with mesmerizing auroras and a great company made it a 5 star experience for me. Thank You Markus, for putting your heart into it and making people happy!
