Mountain Biking Clinic

The morning clinic begins at a park in Santa Cruz for a hands-on outdoor classroom experience. Either bring along your own mountain bike and helmet, or rent one by selecting the rental option at booking. Ensure a proper fit with sizing guidelines, and get comfortable with the bike through a discussion of bike ‘anatomy’ and a series of handling drills focusing on mounting and dismounting, body position, and pedaling techniques.

Next, it's time to put your new skills into practice with a 6-to-8-mile (9.7-13 km) ride along the famous trails of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Feel the thrill of confidently cruising downhill, uphill, and along switchbacks while your instructor provides real-time guidance on shifting, gearing, cornering techniques, balance, and focus.

During the 4-hour clinic, your instructor will cover a range of additional topics to prepare you for many years of safe and and exciting mountain biking. Learn maintenance essentials such as on-the-spot trail repair, how to fix a flat tire, and chain upkeep, plus get tips on trail etiquette, food and hydration, stretching, conditioning, and what to wear to stay comfortable while biking in Northern California’s microclimates.
