Mount Pilatus Summer Day Trip from Lucerne

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Pass By: Lucerne, Lucerne

Meet your guide in central Lucerne (Frankenstrasse 2-4) in the early afternoon.

Stop At: Pilatus Luzern, Schlossweg 1, Kriens, Lucerne 6010 Switzerland

Hop aboard your comfortable coach for the short journey to Kriens, at the foot of the imposing Mt Pilatus. On arrival, begin your ascent to the mountain’s lofty summit with a 30-minute panoramic gondola ride to the Fräkmüntegg terminus. Enjoy beautiful views over the rolling hills and lush pine forests below.

At Fräkmüntegg, hop aboard the aerial tramway — a spacious and modern cabin with panoramic windows designed to give the feeling of flight. Continue your climb to the summit at a dizzying altitude of 7,000 feet, and take in spectacular views over the Alpine peaks and lakes from your vantage point on the mountain.

During your free time atop Mt Pilatus, perhaps sit down to a high-altitude lunch among the peaks (own expense) or relax on the expansive sun terrace. Venture down the Dragon's Path and take the short hike around the summit to enjoy the amazing views.

Duration: 4 hours

Pass By: Alpnachstad, Alpnachstad

Take the world's steepest cogwheel train down to Alpnachstad, descending past trickling mountain streams and sheer rock faces toward the verdant, green meadows below.

Stop At: Lake Lucerne, Lucerne Switzerland

Conclude your tour with a picturesque 1-hour boat ride across lovely Lake Lucerne and enjoy the spectacular scenery from an entirely different angle.

Duration: 1 hour

Pass By: Lucerne, Lucerne

At the end of the cruise, your tour ends back in Lucerne.

The Golden Roundtrip (ascent by aerial cable car, descent by cogwheel train, return to Lucerne by boat) operates between early May and late October. Between late October and mid-November, the aerial cable car is under maintenance. In this case you will travel up and down Mt. Pilatus by cogwheel train. The boat on Lake Lucerne operates from early May until late October - if you are traveling when the boat is no longer in operation you will return to Lucerne by train and receive a complimentary lunch instead.

Robert was an excellent guide! The email instructions on where to meet and whether we should have a hard copy of our ticket caused us some anxiety, but it all worked out well.

A lovely tour. We went up by cable, and spent about 2-3 hours at the top and walked to the highest point. Beutiful views everywhere, then went to the restaurant for some nice Swiss wine. then we took the worlds steepest train to the bottom near the wharf. Then we went on boat tour of Lake Luzerne and were dropped off close to the tran station. It was a lovely day and we took a lot of photos. Highly recommendable

Pilatus and the train and gondola were wonderful. The boat ride back to Luzern was dismal. The boat, the lower deck where the tourists are held, was uncomfortable and shabby. An hour on a grey, damp summer day was not good. And the tour guide was miserable. He shared no information, no smiles, nothing useful. With thirty people along, he spent all his time with three Spaniards because he could actually speak Spanish but he spoke, or chose not to speak English. Overall, a terrible guide.

The top of the mountain was beautiful but the trip was very disorganized. They lost a person and when we got there she had to go and buy tickets. There were no instructions and no one knew what to do.There was not boat ride or tram. (not their fault), On the way back we hit another bus and had to wait in the bus while they figured it out.

The trip started a bit rough. There was a guide at the meeting location but she was not our guide. She said we would be with another guide, but she couldn't answer when the other guide and bus might show up. It ended up we were joining a bilingual tour on a bus that was coming from Zurich. This tour is what I would call "semi-guided".

The destination was amazing . We arrived at the top via two tram rides after a short bus ride from Lucerne. The first a 4 passenger sit down tram and the second a 51 passenger stand up tram. The views were amazing. Views from the top were amazing. The return was via the cog railway from the top then a boat ride on Lake Lucerne back to the city. While the destination was great I felt the guides were not very good. There was no commentary on the bus ride about what we were passing. The boat ride was beautiful but again no commentary on the sights we were passing on our way back.

Amazing tour! We were fortunate to have good weather so the views from the mountain were fantastic. Our tour guide, Yolanda, did a great job of explaining the different steps of the tour and was always available for questions. The boat ride back to Lucerne was a lovely way to end the day.

We last minute booked this and we LOVED it! We did MT Titlis the following day and while they were both awesome, we preferred the MT Pilatus tour for the spectacular views you get of Lake Lucerne. You also get to experience and see more of amazing Switzerland on this tour with the Cogwheel train and the Lake Lucerne cruise on the way back, whereas the MT Titlis tour is mainly about snow activities. How much you enjoy either tour will also depend on how much cloud cover you get - so if you have some flexibility with your itinerary, make sure you check the weather in the lead up.

Although we had a guide this was pretty much explore on your own which was fine by us. I would have liked a little more time on Mt Pilatus. We wanted to try the toboggan run but there was not enough time to do that and see top view. The boat trip was great and the bus was new and comfortable.

One of our favorites due to gorgeous scenery and variety of activities! The tour exceeded our expectations. We loved the ride up, the hiking up top (ask where trails along the mountain side are). Views are spectacular and the quick restaurant was perfect (grab and go and sit at picnic table outside.)On our hike, we could barely see cows below ;could hear their cowbells clearly like a symphony. All clinging different tones. Cool Cogwheel ride down-fun. Boat ride amazing! Do VIP if possible.

This was the family highlight of our trip to Europe - would highly recommend. Tour guide was excellent to guide us up and down the mountain, sharing interesting insights along the way. 10 minute coach ride, 4-person gondola, 50-person gondola, cogswheel train down and steam ship back on Lake Lucerne. Pilatus was covered in clouds but cleared for a few minutes so we could enjoy the full view at the top. Wonderful views on way up and down. About 2 hours at the summit to explore. Great day all round.

On August 12, 2019, it was rainy and cool but wetook the tour anyway. We made our reservations online in the U.S.,were given a confirmation number and a pick up time and told where to meet. We were picked up by a bus on time and taken to the place where we would get on the cable car to go up to Mt. Pilatus. The tour guide was organized and gave us all instructions on how the day would go. We did Cable Car, Cog Rail Car down the mountain, then boat ride of Lake Lucerne in that order. A very good day despite the cool gray weather...still very much worth the price. The scenery was spectacular in every direction even though it was a gray day. The clouds and mountains and greenery were breathtaking. I recommend it to all!

The tour was actually very nice. My concern has to do with the company. I booked for myself and my elderly mother. My mother woke up that day ill and unable to walk well. She stayed at the hotel and I went on the tour alone. I informed the guide and he said he was unable to do anything other than note she did not attend. Although I contacted Viator’s customer service, they said they would not refund my mother’s money. This is disappointing, especially since this was my first time trying Viator. The sites are definitely worth seeing, but do yourself a favor and just take a taxi to Mt. Pilatus and buy your tickets there. It’s easy will be far cheaper! Had I only known that in the first place!
