Diego was a very knowledgable guide and first introduced us to a lot of vegetables and fruits on the market. He then took us to places where we were sure we would taste good and well cooked food without running the risk of catching a stomach bug. :-) We can highly recommend the tour!

You must take this tour. We learned so much about food from the Yucutan. Diego did a wonderful job explaining the food and spices to our group. We had never tried - or even heard of - many of the tasty treats. Five stars!

This was a real highlight of our trip to Mexico. We spent the majority of the day in a local market, trying so much food (both savoury and sweet) and our guide Diego was really knowledgeable and made sure we got the most out of our experience. Standouts for us were the tacos al pastor with pineapple (we went on Sunday), the lechon and the gelato at the end. Would 100% recommend.

Diego was an amazing guide. He brought us to the big market hall, where we tasted a lot of different typical mexican food. We enjoyed the tour very much and learnt a lot about the types of meals and how they are being prepared. We highly recommend the Tour but would advise to have no breakfast on this day 😉

We have walked in the center of Merida with our guide Luz Ontiveros , visited 2 markets with 10 different stands to learn vegetables , juice fruits , fruits and ice creams and taste the foods ( including spices not too strong !) . Luz explains everything clearly and still smiling or laughing with our reactions . Great experience and very good memories.

Great selection of food and kind guide (Diego) explaining how the Yucatecan eat the dishes. It was nice to hide from the sun in the market where we tried most of the food - ending at a restaurant in the area. For those considering to sign up: remember to skip breakfast and enjoy while trying a bit of everything :-)

This was a great introduction to the tastes of Yucatan. We tried it all...fruits, vegetables, spices, beverages, and the traditional prepared foods, including pork, turkey, chicken, and cheeses. Most of the tour is within the market, so you get a good feel for how the locals shop and eat.

Luz provided a terrific walking food tour. We learned so much about how the many fruits, vegetables, and spices are used for daily meals. She created an atmosphere that made us feel like we belonged within the setting and atmosphere - and all the food was FABULOUS!!!

Of all the Mexican/Central American walking food tours I've taken, this was by far the best. Our guide, Luz, pointed out some historic buildings on the Zocalo and then took us into the market for two hours of tasting fruit, pibil, tacos, and so more more at numerous stalls. She's clearly well known by the vendors and admired by them. After the market we went for ceviche and wrapped with ice creatm. Luz was just amazing! Excellent English. Knowledgeable about everything we sampled and able to tell us stories about history and modern-day use. Book this tour and ask that Luz be your guide!

This is a fantastic introduction to the local foods. I learned so much about the local fruits, vegetables, spices and recipes at the market. Azul’s ceviche was so incredibly fresh and delicious. You will not leave this tour hungry. So many flavourful tastings. Gisell was the perfect guide. She was knowledgeable and kind. I plan to do this tour with all my guests to Merida.

incredible experience for a first day in Mérida, I went with my husband and we were delighted with the visit to the market, Laura, our guide, introduced us to the vendors and gave us samples of a great variety of local dishes and fruits. Laura explained very patiently and we enjoyed every thing, I couldn't decide a favorite, fantastic experience! We had ceviche for lunch and the ice cream was a great ending.

Diego walked us around the Plaza Grande, sharing details on Merida’s history, before going to the market where we did lots of testing on the different fruits & vegetables of the region. Diego answered all of our questions and we had great discussions. It was super helpful to have Diego show us around the market and order delicious treats that we wouldn’t have been able to do by ourselves. After this tour, we will know what to order thanks to the email Diego sent us afterwards with all the details of what we tasted.

Laura was delightful and an excellent guide. We really enjoyed the market, and having a guide made it so much more interesting. She introduced us to individual vendors, we learned about their products, and she made sure we got the best prices on things.

Laura took us throughout the mercado — it was wonderful to have her not only navigate, but select and explain the local cuisine. There is so much to see, we probably would have gotten lost and overwhelmed on our own. And Laura was so friendly and knowledgeable… we were in her excellent hands and I would go on another tour with her in a minute. (Excellent English too.) we also loved the ceviche in the fish restaurant - another place we would never have found on our own. And ice cream! All we had hoped for and more in this tour. Thank you, Laura!
