We went to this chocolate making class yesterday. We have a 2 year old so we were a bit apprehensive about keeping her occupied during the class. But it went so well we could not have asked for a better experience. The space was relaxing. The class was fun and interesting. And our daughter absolutely loved Ingrid and Ruth. We definitely recommend this class.

She was very intelligent and sweet and kind, and when we come back again, we will absolutely do this class again. Also, the chocolate was absolutely delicious.

Lupita and the whole team made this experience one we won’t forget. From the very beginning we learned about the different cacao beans then actually got to make our own chocolate. This was such a fun way to understand the cultural and social importance of cacao! The setting added to its charm and almost felt like we went back in time as we roasted, ground and created our own chocolate!

Do not miss this gem in Oaxaca! I signed up last minute for a Cacao Experience which entails learning the local history and origin of cacao, a full tasting, and hand making your own chocolate (their are lots experienced to choose from, I enjoy the history portion). Asa was my teacher/guide/all things amazing and we had SO MUCH FUN! She loved her job just as much as she loved the chocolate and its quality itself. Everything is handmade and locally sourced, so even if you take a peak and buy one of the best single origin chocolate bars or the beautiful bags of cacao, you won’t regret it! 10/10 would recommend! Thank you Chimalapa Cacao!

The class was amazing. I went in with prior knowledge and still got the opportunity to learn so much more. I also got to play sommelier with all of the varieties of chocolates and get a workout in while grinding the chocolate.

I highly recommend this activity if you are traveling with children and want to provide a fun and enriching cultural experience. This activity incorporates a quick lesson, cooking, and chocolate tasting. We got to keep the solid chocolate and hot chocolate mix that we made from scratch during the activity. The activity kept my 4 year old thoroughly entertained throughout and I got some adorable photos of her cooking. The instructor, Ruth, was knowledgeable and very sweet with my kid. Our class was in English. Worth the cost.

This is an amazing chocolate course taught by true artisans! The owner and operators are very kind, informative and great at providing information and inspiration to explore and protective this amazing plant - cocoa. The class is laid out in a really interesting way with a lot of tasting and sampling cocoa in it's various forms. The hands-on making of the chocolate and drink was the best I've taken (I've taken a few chocolate classes in other places). While it is listed as a private class, this was a small group (I was paired with another person whom I didn't know) and we got a long great which made it more fun. The facility is in the City Center and easy to walk to if you're in the area. It's in a beautiful charming old building, beautifully decorated, the folks spoke great English for us. I learned a ton of information that I will take into my future when buying and tasting chocolate, I left feeling more aware of the challenges facing cocoa and want to protect it! It was well worth the investment!

Diego was patient and informative. It was very organized and comprehensive. We learned a lot and we were the only people so it was very personalized for us.

Super fun and informative workshop. We learned a lot about cacao’s history and production. We sampled different beans with different styles of production, washed vs fermented, sampled different ground powders, and then roasted and ground our own cacao, which we made into hot chocolate. We got to keep the remainder of our ground chocolate as a delicious souvenir. We would highly recommend this workshop and would do it again. We did it with our two kids, 12 and 8, and they enjoyed it immensely. The staff were super friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating.

I learned so much about chocolate making, and chocolate origins. Diego was fantastic in answering my questions and advocating for the local community and how special different cacao types are. His enthusiasm for the subject made the experience.

I have been looking for a workshop about cacao production in a lot of places in Mexico and I finally found a fountain of wisdom and the knowledge. I had a magical time listening about cacao origin and making my own pure cacao from the seed. To me, cacao is a magical plant and I am so happy to find a place where it is treated with so much love and respect. I feel very inspired and happy to understand more about this ancient plant. It has been more than a pleasure to learn more and at the end to have a cup of the most tasty cacao I've ever had. I wish Chimalapa Cacao to continue their incredible work and share the magic of cacao. Would recommend workshops with them to everybody.

This was by far our favorite experience in Oaxaca! We booked the two hour ‘Make Your Own Oaxacan Chocolate with Chimalapa Cocoa’ on our first full day in town. We learned so much about the origins of chocolate, the varieties and cultivation of cacao, and the differences in flavors. Ervit’s passion for the art of chocolate was obvious and we enjoyed taking part in each step of the process. To take home drinking chocolate that we roasted, ground, and formed ourselves made for an amazing story and souvenir. We would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to learn to appreciate the cultural history and hard work that it takes to produce chocolate. Since neither of us are fluent in Spanish, Lupita was there to help translate and provided amazing local recommendations to explore during our stay. Don’t hesitate to book this incredible experience!

Our whole family loved this experience! Diego was so knowledgeable and we learned a lot, but he also made it so much fun for the whole family (with kids ranging in age from 4 to 13). We loved getting to make chocolate ourselves and try so many different types and flavors. We learned about cultural traditions, different types of cocoa beans, and how chocolate is made. Highly recommend!!

Very educational and fun. We learned a lot about different cocoa beans. We made our own chocolate powder for a hot or cold beverage. Chinatown Highly recommended.
