We thoroughly enjoyed this early morning Tour of Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica. There were about 25 people in our Tour Group. Our Tour Guide Tulia spoke excellent English and was extremely knowledgeable about the history and contents of both Tour Sites. Tulia also navigated the entrances to both Sites with ease, which made our experience hassle-free. We were glad we did this early morning Tour as both Sites get very busy and crowded as the day goes on.

Our guide, Marina B, was so kind, friendly, and extraordinarily knowledgeable. There was not question that she could not answer! More than the magnificent art, but also the political history or Venice. She made the tour fascinating and lively. Thank you!

Tour guide Roberta was superb in her knowledge of Venice’s >2000 years of advanced enlightenment. Being able to view the Doges’ Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica without crowds made the 8 am start worth the early wake-up!

Skip the line? It’s a scam. The entire experience is one giant line… a cattle call of thousands of people being continuously herded along a path through the palace. We “skipped” the line to wait in the line of people who paid to skip the line, and the end of our line was actually in the rain. It was so bad that my partner and I walked away from $ 248 US worth of tickets and our hopes of seeing the inside of the Doge’s Palace and the Basilica. My friend and his wife decided to tough it out, and they confirmed that they were shuffling shoulder-to-shoulder en masse for the entire ordeal. Sadly, the Venetian authorities treat this historic gem as a profit center. God forbid that there ever be an emergency, or the perception of an emergency, because people will be killed in the ensuing stampede.

I’ve done a lot of tours in my day, but this was one of the best. Our tour guide, Elena, was absolutely amazing. She was fun, passionate, and full of knowledge. The tour was three hours with a break between the Basilica and the Doge’s Palace. She was extremely knowledgeable and shared an incredible amount of history mixed with interesting facts. We were absolutely fascinated by the entire tour. Would definitely do again. I do think it is important to be aware that there there are many tall, uneven steps in the Basilica. If you struggle with steps, you may want to skip the upstairs portion of this tour.
