I traveled with my parents and 3 aunties, all were 70 years and above. I decided in a tour instead of doing this myself because I wanted someone who will be able to tell us stories and show us things that we would not have been able to do ourselves. This tour ticked all those boxes. Our guide Chica was fantastic and introduced us to food that we would not have ordered ourselves.

We had Lisa as our guide and it was her first time but she was very sweet and taught us many things about Japan and the food. We ate things I would not have normally have ordered and ate until we were stuffed. The food tour is very go at your own pace so you have a chance to stop and browse at things without feeling rushed.

Kiyoto was the most wonderful guide and made our tour of the Nishiki Market very special. He led us around the market with ease and had interesting information to share.

Tamura Masamine san (Masa) was our guide, who has lived and worked in Kyoto all of his life, and he was a wealth of knowledge. He has owned restaurants and isakaya and knew the market inside out. Lots of secret spots, insider knowledge and delicious options to taste. I couldn’t believe when he said it was his first guided tour. Very generous with his time and answers to questions. Like all Japanese people, he is very polite and hospitable. His English is excellent. Highly recommended.

I had a fun time being guided around the neighborhood and the Nishiki Market with Tomoko! It was a great activity for my solo travel days. Tomoko is a Kyoto native, very knowledgeable, and picked out delicious eats for the group!

We enjoyed our exploration of the market with Umi and the food provided at various stops was excellent, spices, meat cutlet, sake (at 11.00 in the morning!) and tempura and egg based dishes. The smells and sights were amazing. Umi was polite and helpful. It would have been helpful to give us more and repeated explanations of the food and more history of these foods to truly provide a full experience. Also some more general history and funny stories, but all in all a good tour.

We were guided by a joyful and experienced guide Tomoko. Nishiki Market, hundreds of meters long and full of intriguing food shops, I first felt lost to choose good ones. But led by Tomoko, I had various tasty foods at various shops, each time with small amount. Both my stomack and heart were satisfied. Then, we walked around the area, including a Cow Shrine and an Octopus Temple. Everything I saw was amazing. I strongly recommend this tour and Tomoko!

What a great way to explore the Nishiki Market and the unique foods of Kyoto. My guide, ‘Chika’ is from Kyoto and her love of the area and knowledge of its history really came through during the tour. I got to try so many wonderful dishes and explore all the sights and smells of this vibrant market. We also visited a few small shrines/temples and I learned interesting facts about the history of Kyoto. Chika was very inviting and answered all of my many questions. Highly recommend scheduling your tour with Chika of this unique Kyoto market.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative. I had a great time. I discovered I liked eel, it doesn't taste like chicken.

I had an excellent tour guided by a local Japanese expert, NAO. We explored recommended souvenir stores and indulged in delicious stall foods personally endorsed by NAO. What stood out the most was the unpredictable weather – even occasional rain failed to dampen our enjoyment. The experience also provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds, making it highly recommended, especially for Japanese individuals interested in practicing English. Although I've been to Nishiki Market a few times before, this tour offered a chance to delve into stores with a level of detail I had never explored previously.

I had an amazing time walking around the Nishiki market, tasting food, and listening to fun facts about the temples we visited. Nao was an amazing guide who was knowledgeable about Japanese cuisine and traditions. My favorite thing about the tour was that many shops we visited offered free tastings. 3 hours just passed in the blink of an eye. Thank you for the experience.

I went on the tour with 5 other people and the guide was Nao-san. The tour was really informative and fun. I enjoyed many aspects of this tour. Firstly, we visited several restaurants/shops and tried a lot of food. As we were having the food, Nao-san introduced us about the history and production of it. Nao-san even explained to us about shops that we did not go inside, so we could learn about the diverse nature of Nishiki market. Secondly, although this was a food tour, we were guided to different shrines. The shrines do not have remarkable appearances from the outside, so I would have missed them completely if I had walked alone in this area. Nao-san also talked about the story behind the shrines, which made the tour really interesting. Lastly, Nao-san and other people in the tour were super friendly. We had small talks and learned about the diverse backgrounds that we all have. The tour is already very nice, but I think if we can hear more about Kyoto or Kansai (history, current landscape, etc.), it will be even better :) Overall, I highly recommend this tour!

I recmmend this tour to everyone, not only the foodies.

Nao took me to the market, showing me not only local delicacies that I would have passed by unknowingly, but she also added details on history and culture to this tour. She also managed to cater to my needs and showed me where to buy some items that were on my list for presents and gifts 🙏🏻 thank you! It was great fun and delicious food 😊
