Fabulous photo tour through the flower market and the surrounding ghats. Manjit has been going here for years, so he knows the sellers and the in and outs of the market. Loved the super relaxed atmosphere he creates and the in depth stories he tells along the way. Had the best time.

Booked this private tour for myself, an amateur photographer, and my wife who carries the lenses and loves culture and history. I used on the day a Canon 90D with an Extreme Pro super-fast SD card and stayed with my 18-55mm kit lens most of the time. We met Manjit at the hotel and, having done a tour the previous day with Manjit, we headed straight out. This tour proved more challenging than the kaleidoscope tour however Manjit very quickly realised I was struggling with the low light and crowded subjects and moved us to a better area. The tour was exactly as described with a never-ending supply of subjects to point the camera at with Manjit seeming to know everyone we passed. The biggest plus for us (apart from the most amazing opportunity to capture real life images) was that we didn’t have to worry about where we were (or how to get back), if we could point a camera at that person on not or if we were staying safe as Manjit was the perfect guide. He also has a great personality – warm and funny, and reads people and situations really well. After three hours we were exhausted and very pleased that Manjit had arranged a car to collect us at the start and finish of the tour. We would highly recommend either of the tours we took with Manjit and have gone away with memories money can’t buy.

Fantastic experience…. Never felt I met Manjeet for the first time ….. Being originally from Calcutta and a very proud Bengali …I must admit it is tough to impress me with facts about Calcutta…having said that Manjeet opened my eyes to the cast iron import from Glasgow … he was also brilliant in terms of how he not only knew the place but the people around it ….look forward to doing more such walks with him.

Great tour. Very colourful. I need to be shown around a place like this, else on my own I would have been in and out too quickly and missed so much wonderful experiences. Manjit is a lovely guide who is known by so many people in the market which obviously helps those of us who are taking a walk around with him. It is tours like this that made our stay in Kolkata feel so special!

Thank you Calcutta Photo Tours for this amazing experience!!! We had such a lovely morning together with Manjit at the flower market. The tour was so relaxing, interesting and rewarding. Manjit had a lot of interesting information to share on culture, rituals, people, work, customs and anecdotes and we did our best to take in all the new impressions! We never would have felt as comfortable walking around the market on our own and having a guide with us really made all the difference in connecting with the people at the market. And of course Manjit knew just where to capture the perfect shots, the best light, faces and colours! We'll definately be back for more tours on our next visit to Kolkata!

Absolutely loved this tour - a treat for all the senses. Manjit was just fabulous - all his tours are curated to perfection and so is this one. Loved watching the wrestlers by the Ganga. The flower market was so full of life , also the beguni, alu r chop and tea we were treated with was to remember for life. Highly recommend Manjit's tours - these tours were the best part of our stay in Kolkata !

This tour is absolutely a photographer's delight! However, even non-photographers(such as my teenage son) thoroughly enjoyed it because it was so visually engaging and varied. This walking tour with Manjit will rate among the top five tours that I have done over the years across the world! The tour starts early morning with a visit to the "akhra" to see the wrestlers in action - do pay the extra money for this part of the tour - you will not regret it! The "Akhra" is by the river Hooghly with the Howrah bridge in the background. The "ghats" were magical and provided wonderful opportunities to capture the early morning mood. Next we visited the flower market which was equally rewarding with photo opportunities. The street food was limited but excellent and certainly "Western-proof" - we had the best "aloor chop and beguni" ! Manjit enriched us with local knowledge and was funny and engaging and the 3 hours passed like a whizz! He is an exceptional guide and provides access that would otherwise not be possible. Overall, 200% recommended! Thank you Manjit!

My husband and I had such a lovely time on the flower market tour—it was the highlight of our trip in Kolkata. Manjit was so great that we decided to book another tour with him the next morning (the cultural tour) and it was also excellent! You can’t go wrong with any of his tours!

I found myself with an unexpected stopover in Kolkata a few years back, and ended up on this tour. Honestly, this was a highlights of many years of interntional travel !! So much so that 18 months later, I then booked another trip to Kolkata so I could do it again, pre-armed with knowledge about what I'd see and a better camera! Manjit is passionate, friendly and provides such an insiders guide to the markets that you feel 100% comfortable and welcomed by the stallholders. The photo opportunities you get from this are amazing, and having Manjit there to help you out with lighting suggestions, different angles, to get the best out of the situation was priceless. (I went in June 2015 & December 2016 but the options TripAdvisor gives only goes back to Dec 2020).

If I could give more than 5 stars for the Hooghly’s flower market tour I would. It is visually spectacular and you have the opportunity to see parts of Calcutta you would not normally get to see. I am not a photographer, but Manjit didn’t hold that against me and took me to places where I had no trouble getting that wonderful photo to show my family and friends. I would sign up to this tour again if I was to return to Calcutta and not just because of the tour, but also because I could spend time catching up with the very delightful Manjit. You will not have any regrets signing up to this tour.

While this tour focuses on the flower market there is a lot more to it than blooms, fragrance and hues. Flowers play such important parts in ceremonial culture of this country, and we learnt a good deal about that through this tour. And, of course, it's another way to see a different area in this great city, with Manjit and his team providing insightful and accessible commentary. I did this tour before COVID, but the system won't register earlier dates.

Another tour I have done more than once (and shall do again in the future). The flower sellers; the buildings; the chai wallah; the wrestlers; the incredible energy of the place. All of this makes me so happy I can hardly contain myself! Thanks, Manjit.

This was my 2nd trip with Calcutta Photo Tours and Manjit Da. Impressed by Manjit Da's excellent knowledge on Kolkata's nook and corner during our first trip on Culture Kaleidoscope, I decided to go on "Solo" this time. It was an early morning Saptami (Durga Puja in Kolkata). As an amateur in photography, looking to shoot people and mostly streets -- it was heaven for me! Manjit Da, not only knew the routes, but those secret places where you will get magical lights and some spectacular game of shadows. Those were a photographer's delight! And since Manjit Da was a friendly face and very well known by the locals, no one stopped me from photographing. Surprisingly, no one gave any pose, being with Manjit Da, makes you feel invisible but yet safe in midst of the crowd. If you haven't done this tour yet, go ahead and book your slot. But if you are traveler who wants to write stories or a photographer who wants to capture the moments to re-live the stories, get your tour done - I am sure, you will not be satisfied with one trip!

A great experience for both photographers and non photographers. Manjit has his fingers on the pulse of this special city and will time the visit optimally. It is the perfect chance to enjoy the intensity of colour and the variety of flowers that are a key part of the everyday rituals of India. Manjit knows the best angles and can coach if needed as well as help you understand what is happening. The area is right next to the bridge and the river and is always atmospheric. Great guides can really add so much to your experience and your engagement in a new city. Manjit is a truly great guide with the perfect balance of knowledge, playfulness and integrity. Make your most of your visit to this special city with any one of these masterfully led tours.

This tour is AMAZING. Not that it will feel like a “tour” with Manjit. You will feel like you are meeting his lifelong friends in his beloved Kolkata! He is something special. The flower market is sensory overload - colours, sounds, and the divine scent. And the marigolds! The flower sellers were so welcoming. It truly is a divine adventure. We loved this tour so much we came back to Kolkata and did it again! And will come again!

I did the Nabapatrika / Kola Bou and Flower Market combined tour with Calcutta Photo Tours. I had a great time photographing the ghats during the "kolabou snan" followed by some environmental portraits at the Mullick flower market. I had an incredible experience with Manjit, he is very friendly and easy-going. Me, being primarily a nature photographer, some of his inputs during the photoshoot including locations, lighting and subjects helped me capture some shots that I am truly proud of. He knows the locations and the people very well which helped us get to spots which I would have definitely missed on my own. For any photographer who is interested in Street photography in Kolkata, I would highly encourage going on a tour with him.

This was actually the tour I most wanted to join and it did not disappoint. The scene is chaotic - Manjit moves you around the sprawling site with a local’s ease and charm. The piled ropes upon ropes of marigolds; lotus flowers; every imaginable thing that grows. The vendors smile and have a chat. You explore under the bridge; over a partially ruined victorian building to the ghat. There’s a place where men practice traditional wrestling - there’s a place where people are making personal offerings at the waterside. It is an experience like no other. Grab your camera and go
