I am a avid fisherman and had always fished for salmon on a boat in Ketchikan. I was unable to book a boat so I decided to try Chum Fun Charters and it was the right decision. Derrick was the guide and what a great guy he was. He picked us up in downtown Juneau and we fished at the fish hatchery. The coho run was slow due to the hatchery being closed in 2020 but he put us on fish that day. There were 6 on the tour and 3 fish were caught but you could see many cohos in the water. He was funny, informative, and a real pleasure to fish with. I was the last person to be dropped off and he insisted on driving me back to my ship. I didn't catch a coho but I plan to fish with Derrick again in May 2024 for kings!

The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Special shoutout to Noah for his patience and incredibly positive attitude. Would have given 5 stars if we caught some salmon. I understand that none of us can control nature but more options for fishing where we have better accessto the fishwouldgo a long way. Would definitely go again.

Bucket list excursion- Salmon fishing in Alaska! First part of tour was a tour of where they raise salmon before releasing them. Very informative! Second part was fishing on the dock where we were catching 30-40 salmon each. These salmon had gone through their spawning season so my husband elected not to send them home because they aren't fresh after spawning. The company provides the rain gear, rods, reels, and everything you need. Great experience and the guides were very professional.

Took great care of us and made sure every one of us caught salmon. Teen and adults all loved the experience. Would recommend this experience for families

Great fun for our family (kids and adults). Derek and Noah (guides) were excited, attentive, and all around awesome. We were there in mid July. Snagged chum, which we released as one does. Caught a king, but season was paused so couldn't keep. Overall a great adventure. The youngest called it "fish-tastic"!

Had a great time with Jake out there this morning, caught a chum and my first Alaskan salmon ! He gave me some tips and showed me some intro fly fishing as well. Highly recommend!

Booked and prepaid deposit. Cruise was cancelled and deposit retained although web site promised refund if cancelled. Spoke with charter owner and refund promised. No refund received after multiple requests.

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of spending an overcast morning in Juneau with Paul and one other guest for a fishing adventure. We are both avid fisherman, and wanted to experience both deep sea and off-shore fishing while we were in Alaska. We were there in late August, and unfortunately, the fishing was slow for what we should have experienced and didn't get one bite. However, Paul was very accommodating and helpful along the way. He dressed us to the nine in waterproof gear, took us to the best local spots, and made sure we had a great experience despite the poor fishing luck. He really went above and beyond to provide an unforgettable experience, and really pours his heart and soul into this company and providing his guests with a wonderful time!

We had an excellent experience. It’s family run and they were so informative and kind. They had all the gear and really cared that we had a great time. I loved the hatchery because it just fascinating how the salmon jump up stream and over walls. It was a great day.

Late review but we LOVED our experience in August 2022. We were visiting on the Radiance of the Seas. Very easy pick up and drop off; they even scooted the entire reservation up 30 minutes to help accommodate us getting back to the ship. We unfortunately didn't catch any fish but still had an excellent time.

Six of us had signed up for a fishing charter with Chum Fun Charters 8,17,22 out of Juneau during our recent Alaska cruise in August. Our ship was coming in late so the owners did modify our starting time. I made it very clear to Paul, the owner, upon booking that we did not want to visit the Hatchery which was part of the tour because we have done it before. I was told that this would not be an issue and we did not have to make this stop. As soon as we loaded into the van, JP the tour guide, had told us that another individual was added to our tour and highly stressed no more than three times the importance of the Hatchery Tour. The new person added to the tour was not interested in visiting the Hatchery either. All guests felt pressured with his insistence. Unfortunately, two of our party had to cancel last minute for health reasons. The tour operators did not express any concern what-so-ever despite the fact that their fee had already been paid. The tour guide never asked names of 3 individuals in our party. I had suggested 2 spots to fish at that I had been successful at before, however, was dismissed by the guide. We started fishing on-site at a small dock where the water was muddy and the dock space was congested for the 5 of us. Later we moved to another location within a 2 minute drive away. We had to walk down over steep rocks which led us to a small point where there were at least 100 dead salmon that gave off a putrid odor. Dying fish were swimming all around. This area was also very muddy and had lots of seaweed. Not a great fishing or scenic area by no means. The guide was reluctant to relocate to a better location. He offered limited assistance to the 2 novice fisherman that were with us. What he was for dinner seemed to be more important than concerns of his guests. Needless to say, I will never use this company for a fishing tour again. These complaints are only some of the major issues. Again, I have fished this area with an other tour company and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. I would not recommend this company to others or any cruise line.

I had a great time renting gear from Paul and Michelle and spent a few hours fishing the nearby shoreline. I caught two chum salmon with the gear provided by them. Chum Fun Charters is a family owned business whose proprietors are nice, honest and very helpful which is what every short time visiting tourist like myself could hope for. My one recommendation is to book your tour/excursion with them directly and avoid the large travel apps. The reason is that when not booking directly with Chum Fun you are not given the exact times that are open and you only find available times AFTER you pay! As I was only in port for a limited time the morning time they had open did not work for me and it was a pain getting a refund after. Luckily I talked directly with Chum Fun and they said to come on by and rent gear to fish without instruction which worked out fine for me as I do plenty of fishing on my own. Again I wholeheartedly recommend this shoreline fishing excursion to all interested visitors to Juneau!

Where do I begin?! From the first time talking to Michelle over the phone, to the last handshake with JP to end the excursion, I was completely blown away by the hospitality, warmth, and knowledge that we were presented with. Michelle was uncommonly accommodating when I called. Actually, my call went to voicemail and I was going to change my plans since the website showed that they were completely booked up for the day, but she immediately reached back out to me and I was able to book an excursion at the very last minute! The entire process was very smooth all the way from booking, to getting my fishing license, to gearing up in provided rain gear, and to getting poles in the water. The conversations with JP about everything under the Sun really made the excursion spectacular. In fact, I’m gonna watch Minamata, Green Book and Captain Fantastic because of his recommendations! Before today, I had never even heard of Chum Salmon. We all caught These beasts were fighters! What a joy to experience!! If you want the classic Alaska experience and only have a few hours, Chum Fun will exceed all your expectations. It was money very well spent. Thank you Michelle and JP!!!
