Food was great and we learned a lot about the indigenous foods the people of Oaxaca have traditionally eaten.

This was an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Liz, was so knowledgeable about all of the foods we sampled as well as the market itself. The food was incredible. This tour is an absolute must is you are visiting Oaxaca.

Daniel our guide was so knowledgeable and cheerful. Even though we booked our tour on mother's day and some of the stalls were closed he made sure we had the best of the experience. All of the food and drinks were delicious. Plus he gave me a mezcal cocktail and chocolate free of charge for my birthday. Highly recommend.

My friend and I really enjoyed this tour of Central de Abastos! This market is huge and we were so glad to have Liz as our guide. She was patient, kind, and knowledgeable. She explained everything in detail and shared her favorites with us. Our favorite was the tejate. I would highly recommend any Etnotours experience based on our day today.

Daniel was bubbly and had great history and information. It was on mother's day so some shops were closed. Great food and drinks. Highly recommend.

Amazing tour and the guide was so informative. We tried a lot of different beverages and snacks in the market. We also made tacos on a grill where we bough our meat from. The market is like a maze with fresh produce, dried peppers and crafts. I am so glad I went to this tour. It's best to take the tour in the beginning of your trip to get acquainted to the local foods.

The experience was personable, even if we were part of a group. Our tour guides were passionate and eager to share their knowledge about food and about Mexican culture. We felt privileged to be treated as tourists, and to get to eat and even cook with locals. Definitely worth it!

Really fun experience with lots of good information. We walked through this seemingly endless market of produce, food and various goods. The smells, tastes and sounds were incredible and it was just such a unique way to experience the way the locals shop and eat. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. All the food was delish!

Wonderful introduction to history of local foods. Tasted many traditional foods and explored local markets. Did not feel touristy.

We had a great time exploring the locals market with our guide leading the way and showing us what foods to get and where. We are non-beef eaters and the guide was able to adapt the menu on the go and find us something else to eat instead. Throughout the tour we sampled lots of iconic dishes and drinks as well as eating the local way - with a radish in between for added texture! The market was about a 20 minute walk from the meet up place which really made us hungry for the delicious food!

This was a great tour of the Mercado Central. Great tacos that we prepared ourselves. Highly recommended!

We did this the first day of our trip to Oaxaca so that we could feel confident to nagivate a food market on our own afterwards. Our tour guide was a local who knew the market well and had lots of friends there. He was great and so was the food! Highly recommended.

Poor planning as we had to walk half an hour from the meeting point to the market. The guide didn’t have much vocabulary for English so all the explanations were limited. He brought us to the largest market in Oaxaca but he failed to explain that it’s in a dodgy part of town and to be extra careful with our possessions. We tried tacos, quesadillas, Oaxaca cheese and local drinks. But mid-way through the tour, a handbag got slashed in the crowded market. So it’s unsafe to go to this market that the tour is brought to

Danny was a great guide. He took us to the biggest market in Oaxaca (central de abasto) which had everything. He brought a great sense of calm to a busy and bustling market. Great knowledge. Tried some great local foods and even skipped a queue for a really popular one 😂. Without a decent grasp of Spanish I would think it would be very hard to navigate the market so I would highly recommend. Starve yourself from the night before! Take care during the hot months. Prepare to walk around a lot but at a gentle pace with breaks. Take the opportunity to buy souvenirs along the way. Look for inspiration and enjoy it!

Fascinating tour. We absolutely could not have accessed this enormous and culturally rich market without a guide. Daniel was so knowledgeable and generous with his information. His English was perfect. The company, and Daniel specifically, have clearly created important relationships with the vendors so, not only do you get delicious food to try, but you get the story of the people who make it and the food's cultural significance in Oaxaca. There were 5 people on our tour, so we were able to weave our way deeper into the market. Be prepared to walk a lot and to fo all your senses to be inundated with Oaxacan flavours.

This was our second good tour with Daniel and it was amazing. He’s so knowledgeable and made the tour so enjoyable. We learned many new things this time around and got to try different vendors and foods so it was like a completely different experience. Make sure to bring your appetite because it’s a ton of food. Also the tour says 2.5 hours but because Daniel is so thorough it was more like 4 hours, so be prepared for that as well. Highly recommend and would do it again!
