Havana: Cuban Cooking Experience

From the meeting point, you'll walk through the streets of the Vedado neighborhood to a farmer's market where the guide and the chef will help you select the ingredients to prepare a traditional Cuban meal. En route you will learn about the dual economy, food production, and the ration system that was implemented during the revolution. The guide will also be able to point out important sites and give a bit of history about the area. Upon your return to the casa, help the chef prepare traditional Cuban dishes based on your selected ingredients. The meal depends on what is available seasonally, but typical Cuban dishes include congri (beans and rice), tostones (fried plantains), yuca con mojo (yucca root with garlic sauce), and ajiaco (chicken and potato soup). Once the meal is prepared the best part is next: the feast! Enjoy an excellent home-cooked meal with a traditional Cuban dessert and cocktail, and conversation with your new friends in Cuba.
