I booked this class because we love oil splashed noodles and biang biang noodles, and I wanted to learn to make them. I also love having cooking classes where we each get our own station and get to put out own spin on a dish. This class is not that. The pictures in the ad are not accurate. We were with two lovely people - Bruce and Lily - and we went to the market and then took the bus to their second floor apartment (not a courtyard as in the description). We made the noodle dough, but we did not make the dish. We got to do some chopping, but they didn't even have a knife for each of us (we were 6 people). When it time to cook, we were invited to watch Lily cook. I was very disappointed, as I booked this tour hoping for a real cooking class, and I assumed based on the pictures and description that this would be that. My mother loved getting to go to a real Chinese family's apartment, so if that is what you are looking for, you will enjoy this class.

We had a great day with Michael. It was amazing to see the locals market and the wide variety of produce available. We also learned a bit about the local history and the people living there. We also loved the cooking class. Michael was a great teacher, and we had a very personal experience in a local home. The food was amazing, and we will be cooking the recipes at home a lot. Michael also helped us out with the rest of our trip. He provided recommendations for the best places to eat, and more unknown things to do. I would recommend to anyone!

We met our guide Micheal at the metro, near a local food market in the morning. He was so friendly and informative, we learned a lot about food in the Shaanxi region, picked up some crazy cheap walnuts and various other bits to cook with. The class itself was great, we were cooking in a local restaurant, both my mother and I kneaded the noodle dough and hand pulled out noodles, eventually leading to a giant bowl of noodles for each person. My mum is veggie and the cooking class accommodated for that. Really enjoyed my time and would highly recommend as a way to explore real chinese culture.

We started with the visit of an authentic local market, with many tasting and lots of explanations about the whereabouts and products. Then we went to a restaurant kitchen and met the chef, and were well explained, step by step, and with a touch of humor how to cook the famous buang biang noodles. After some time we were finally able to have a taste of our own cooking, sharing the meal with both Dongcheng the guide (and food lover) and Yan the chef. A great morning for every cooking or food lover!

My brother and I attended Dongcheng's cooking class and loved it! We met him at the metro station and visited a nearby food and spice market. It was really cool to ask all the questions that we had about the food, spices, Chinese habits. We bought a few things to try (blue eggs, sunflower seeds, tea, etc) and Dongcheng helped us choose the right spices to bring back home. We then went to the cooking school and had tea and continued a nice chat with our team leader. Then the cooking class started with Yan, our chef and teacher. The result was really good which made us feel proud of ourselves! We cooked a real Chinese dish! This class is great for foodies and anyone who likes cooking and want help to achieve a result that has a "real taste of China". Thank you Dongcheng and Yan!

If you love food and enjoy exploring new places and really experiencing how the locals live their daily lives, this tour is perfect for you. Winter is a wonderful guide: kind, informative, and funny! He showed me around the spice market and I had so much fun trying different snacks and learning about the food culture in Xian. If I had been there on my own, I am sure I would have felt a bit intimidated to ask shopkeepers about their products. That's where Winter came to the rescue and answered all my questions, or asked the locals for me! The locals at the market seem to like him a lot as well. After the market, we went to a beautiful local restaurant/Baiju tavern where we hung out for a while and drank some delicious tea. Then a local chef gave me a lesson on how to make these awesome Biang Biang noodles. It was challenging but so much fun, and very rewarding in the end. Enjoy the noodles with bites of raw garlic, like a local! It gives it a nice kick! When I visit a new city, I usually try to book myself these types of tours, and one thing I really appreciated about this one was that Winter was totally relaxed and really just felt like a friend whom I had come to visit. I've noticed that some tours can feel rehearsed/forced and although they are super nice, sometimes you can feel that the host is just "doing his job." Well, not this one! If you meet Winter, and spend the day with him, I am sure you will know what I mean. Book this tour if you want a really cool and fun experience, and if you want to make a friend in Xian. Thanks Winter, for a great time! :)

This was my third time visiting and exploring Xi’an. I have always enjoyed cooking and thought that this experience would be lots of fun. And, I wasn’t disappointed. We learned about the various local produce, meats and spices. And, many people purchased items to take home with them.We all had a great time learning the tricks and tips of cooking this SPECIAL noodles of China. And, sitting down to enjoy the fruits of our labor was also quite a delight. Definitely take the time to have this experience with Winter. You will not only walk away with a full belly, but also with a smile from your fun class.

My family and I went on a half day class, while in Xi'an for a week. We had visited some of the markets before we went with Winter. The market he took us to was one of the best and it was great to be able to ask him questions about the things we had been wondering about. The kids especially enjoyed the chilli cool challenges - which got them searching for the hottest chilli etc. The cooking class was also great, hosted in a courtyard , the facilities were excellent. I definitely feel confident I could make Biangbiang noodles at home now. Winter was a great host, all the chilli cool staff were very nice and it was a fun and interesting afternoon which we all enjoyed (even the four year old). Thank you!

I really like the Biangbiang noodles course I did with Winter and the local instructor. The spice market tour was very fun, especially when it became hands-on. I had to try a special egg and learn the Mandarin to buy some. This was a lot of fun and I'm so glad that it was a part of the experience. The cooking experience was also fun as well. Thankfully, it's not very complicated. They walked me through all the ingredients before we started. It definitely feels like something I can replicate on my own. And oh the noodles were delicious!
