I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Whether you're an avid cyclist, a Japanese culture enthusiast, or simply someone in search of beauty and authenticity outside of the traditional big touristy cities, this experience will undoubtedly surpass your expectations. The landscapes we biked through were like living paintings, each turn revealing vistas that took our breath away. From verdant rice fields that seemed to glow under the sun, to quaint villages that whispered stories of yesteryears, every scene was a testament to Japan’s natural beauty and its meticulous care for harmony. We did the half day bike tour, it was fantastic. Our guide, Dai, was knowledgeable and accommodating. We learned about rural life in Japan, and really felt like we were off the "tourist trail" exploring the local area. The e-bikes helped us up some longer climbs and we returned really pleased with the tour. Thanks Dai!

What a great experience to bike thanks to Dai in the region of Hida-Hagiwara and Maze in between the beautiful Hida and Maze rivers. Thanks to the e-bike, we could easily pass the gentle slopes of the area, enjoy quiet and silent villages and valleys, see falcons and other birds playing on the river, we could even have seen the famous Hida cattle. Dai was a great guide giving time to pauses where we learnt about the local life. A memorable afternoon.

We had a great morning with Dai on the E Bikes. It was such a great experience to ride around rural Japan and see communities that you wouldn’t normally see just visiting the large cities. The weather was perfect with light falling snow and we stopped by a tiny cafe for coffee and to warm up which was just lovely. Beautiful scenery and would highly recommend this trip!

Thoroughly enjoyed our half day cycling tour in Hida. Far from any other tourists but easily accessible from Takayama. Very professional from the booking process, the guiding and the quality and standard of the assisted E bikes. Highly recommend and great to support a small, local business!

The bikes are esy to use and the tour leader met us on time. It is worth knowing in advance that Hida is quite far out of Takayama and there is a significant train journey both ways, although Dai did advise of how to get there after we booked, The route we rode was along a path beside the main highways, there were some good views but I had imagined a more rural experience.

Great 3.5 hour bike trip with lots of stops along the way where our guide provided us with miscellaneous interesting tidbits about Japan and the area where we biked. Highly recommended!

Dai was an awesome cycling guide. Our tour took us over some beautiful wooded trails, through agricultural areas & the nearby city. Dai explained about the history, industry, natural resources & culture of the region. He was justifiably very proud of the area. He was fun & engaging & very solicitous of our bike riding. The e-bikes he provided were great - easy to learn & handle, & went up the steep hills easily. The half-day tour was perfect for us, & I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys cycling.

We were met quickly after arrival at the train station. He took us to a garage where the bikes are stored. The bikes looked like being built primarily for male riders whereas we have 2 middle aged ladies. There was not a discussion about the suggested route before we left. Also he tended to ride on ahead of the group. It turned out he was planning for us to ride over to the next valley. We indicated that would be too difficult based on our experience. He quickly changed the plan and we had a super ride on quiet roads and paths, in wooded areas and farming country. The electric element helped greatly. The scenery is spectacular and we got many great photos. We returned to the meeting point on time. We had planned to get the train back straight away but it turned out there was a local fete with music, dancing and stalls- so we ended up spending 2 hours watching the local event before getting the train back to Takayama. Overall a good day but better planning of the trip before we started would have improved the overall experience.

Dei was a great guide in beautiful Hida area. His English is perfect and his cultural education was enlightening. Top notch ebikes were easy to learn.

Was a pleasure and a lovely adventure with Dai among a short mountain stay near Takayama. The bikes are easy to use and powerful enough to ease our way up the mountain. Then you get to view this beautiful mountain river and villages. Highly recommended.

Get away from the crowds visiting the usual temples and tourist sites and see a beautiful and unspoilt part of Japan with a fluent English speaking guide from the local area. Scenery is gorgeous - mountains, crystal clear river - but the best part is the opportunity to learn more about Japanese life and culture and an insight into real rural Japan by talking with the guide and business owner Dai. E bikes are in as new condition and although we ascended over 1200 feet during the ride the e bikes made it easy even for an unfit couple in their 50’s who rarely ride bikes! It’s easy to get there by train - Dai meets you at the start and the bikes are nearby - and there is very little traffic to worry about when riding. Just a lovely experience and one you will remember as really standing out from anything else you do in Japan. Strongly recommended.

Getting into nature after a week of big cities was just what I needed. Stunning scenery on this tour. Loved it all. Dai was an excellent guide and the e-bikes were in perfect condition. An easy bike ride with pedal assist for two 54 year old ladies. Dai gave us lots of information about the area. It was easy to catch a train from Takayama to meet Dai at Hida. Highly recommend this tour as you can see so much more than just walking.

Dai took us on a wonderful ride through the countryside and over the mountain pass to see a lovely little village. We learned a lot about the area and his life and it was one of our favorite experiences during our two week trip to Japan! The e-bikes make the drive very relaxing and enjoyable. Amazing bike ride along the valleys, beside pristine clear rivers . Our e-bikes climbed the sealed tracks up the mountainside with ease. Dai, our guide took us past rice fields, introduced us to local farmers , and answered our questions about Japanese culture. A wonderful glimpse of mountain country life, and thank you to our friendly and knowledgeable guide Dai. I would highly recommend you do this for a breath of rural Japan .

We staied in Takayama and for arriving to Hoda Hagiwara takes really few minutes by train. Just outside the railway station there was Dai waiting for us. The starting point is really few meters far from the station. We had two compfortable and easy to drive ebike. After a slight rise (but we had ebike so no effort 😉) we arrived at the Mize valley and its attonishing landescape gave us the welcome. Our stroll was along the river, sometimes afar, sometimes closer. Dai speaks a really good English, he is rightly proud of his land and describes its stories, characteristics and habits in a lovely way. There is practically no traffic in Mazè so riding is a very pleasure. We rode between traditional houses, rice fields up to a gorgeous beach on the clear water of the river. We absolutely suggest Umeseko Tour!

A fantastic way to see the rural side of Japan. The village of Maze was very pretty and the river was crystal clear. We had a chance to swim in the river which was a great way to cool off during the ride. Dai was very knowledgeable and friendly!

Dai was a great guide - patient, friendly, interesting, and takes clear pleasure in showing people the area. It was a very hot day and we were grateful to be on e-bikes - we would have never made it up the hills otherwise! Maze is a beautiful place blessed by rivers and mountains. Being able to take in the scenery while cooling off in nature’s swimming pool was wonderful. Very happy to have made the effort to take this trip.
