This was an absolutely amazing experience! I would highly recommend this for anyone who is visiting Maui. Our guides, Dan and Tim, were not only hilarious, but so patient and kind. Dan shared so many wonderful historical facts about the island, along with some really fun myths. :)

They were very informative on the Eco-Volcano tour. We rose above the clouds and really enjoyed it. Even though it poured down rain, which the guides could not control. They had the highest standards of safety! I am just proud of myself for achieving a goal. Maybe next time the sun will shine!

Amazing summit views and fun descent! We loved the guided mid-morning ride with Haleakala Bike! Kimo was a wonderful guide; we very much appreciated his true aloha spirit. Kimo's enthusiasm for Hawaii's natural and cultural heritage made for interesting commentary and conversation. It was a treat to be driven to the summit with it's amazing and beautiful views prior to our ride. The bikes (and brakes!) are in very good condition. The guided tour allows you to ride the entire lane width, as opposed to just the right side, which I felt was more fun and relaxing. Our guide Tim kept everyone as a safe distance, etc. I did not feel rushed on the ride and we had an hour for lunch in Makawao. Such a fun day!

We decided to do the morning tour vs the sunrise and I'm so glad we did. I wanted to see the crater in the mid-morning light to get more of the colors. The trip starts out at a small town shop right next to a market which is convenient. Our guide Kimo was AMAZING!! He fit us with helmets and was super quick about it - you can tell he's done this before! (The helmets could have been cleaner, mine had make up along the edges of the padding. :/) He was fun and went above and beyond my expectations. He drove us up to the top of the volcano with interesting commentary. Once at the top we were free to roam for about 10 minutes. I was expecting a tour at the top, but he did it along the way instead. Afterwards we stopped at another view point where he shared some fresh guava fruit and took a really cool photo of my husband and I "skydiving" in the clouds. Honestly he made the 1st half of the trip great! I was disappointed when he dropped us off at the starting point for the actual bike ride portion. At that point we were led by a man named Tim. He was an older gentleman that was skilled in biking and photography, but not so much in being personable. A lady in our group was nervous about going too fast, as was I, but instead of easing her fears he said, "well, we go a minimum of 20 mph! you can't ride unless you go that fast, we got to keep up to speed!" 20 mph going downhill sounds scary, but isn't bad, for the record, BUT it could have been handled differently. It was just very brass and I was irritated for the first many miles because of it. We had a van following us to keep other drivers away and that was great, but if you are at all skilled at riding a bike you could do the self guided version. I would recommend that so you can go at whatever pace you want and stop whenever you want. We only stopped once to take a picture down the road. I will say our pictures turned out great that Tim took of us. He said he does photography in his down time. We stopped in a small town for lunch then biked the rest of the way back to the shop. As far as skills needed to do this adventure... you don't need any. It's so much easier than I thought it would be. If you can ride a bike you can do this. I probably wouldn't let young kids do it just because it's fairly fast paced going downhill and around turns, but I would think 10-12 years and up should be fine. If you do the self guided tour instead there is a longer hill that you will have to ride up towards the end. But Kimo said you could always walk it up! ;)

Great ride up the mountain, complete with explanations of all the sights and dad jokes. At the top the clouds were thick, but we got a picture of our group jumping in the air courtesy of our tour guide! The bike ride down the mountain was awesome!

This was a thrilling bike experience. My 12-year old daughter loved it. We all appreciated the tour to Haleakala and the care everyone took in maintaining safety on the way down (we did the guided tour). Thank you, Kimo for the excellent photos, the jokes and info about the island. A special thanks to Rosie for retrieving my daughter lost phone. What a great example of kindness and Aloha spirit.

This bike trip was one of the highlights of our stay in Maui. Bike Maui is a wonderful company that supplied everything we needed with high quality bikes and helmets. We had a great tour guide taking us up to and touring the volcano. He was very entertaining and informative. Touring the volcano was a nice surprise to us, as we thought we were just going for the bike ride. The bike ride down 23 miles was more intense than we realized, but it was exhilarating and something we will never forget. Just know if you decide to do the self guided tour, make sure you are confident at at bike riding, as you will be sharing the road with cars. But the guide told us what to expect and gave us great directions to get back to the shop. Glad we picked Bike Maui as the experience was nothing less than perfect!

Kimo was an excellent guide. Lots of fun and very helpful. Best photo of the trip. The ride down was conducted with safety in mind. I felt comfortable the entire ride.

I was glad that we did the morning trip rather than the sunrise trip. It was nice not to have to get up and get to Haiku so early, and we still had beautiful views of Haleakala. This is a two part tour. The first part is a bus tour up Haleakala where you get to walk around the crater and take photos. The second part is the bike trip down Haleakala. We considered some tours that just did the second part, but I was really glad we did the first part because it was cool to see the crater. We took some really great photos. Our guides for the both parts were very good. The bike ride down was very easy, because the van rode behind us and protected us from traffic (we pulled off to the side every now and then to let cars go by). Our guide went really slowly. My husband would have preferred the self-guided tour so he could go a little faster and stop whenever he wanted. This tour didn't provide any snacks or drinks so make sure you pack your own. We didn't have lunch until about 1:00pm when we were almost all the way down to Haiku. I wish I would have realized that we weren't going to eat until later, so I could have brought more snacks. Overall it was a great experience though.

Had a great time on the tour that takes you up to the summit of Haleakala mid-morning and then allows you to bike down the volcano. Breathtaking! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, they took safety very seriously, they provide all the gear you need, and everything was well organized. We also really appreciated the option to have them pick us up and drop us back at the hotel. We would definitely repeat this tour and recommend it to others! Mahalo.

After having read a wide spectrum of reviews, my husband and I (in our mid 30s) decided to complete this Morning Bike Ride Group Guided Tour with Bike Maui, and we are so glad we did! It was our favorite thing to do in Maui, but we didn't have any least favorites... after all, it is Maui! A few disclaimers: My husband and I began biking once a week about 1 month prior to this trip purposefully to prepare, 5 -10 miles in our neighborhood park, and I have had road bike experience over the last 10 years and have completed day-long or 2 day bike rides; so being comfortable on the bike, understanding how to change gears, and braking, and the general knowledge of road safety is a necessity. If you haven't been on a bike in years (like one guy in my group said he hadn't been on one in 20 years), I would NOT recommend this ride, no matter how beautiful the views are, because inexperience increases your risk SIGNIFICANTLY. The bus tour up the Volcano to Haleakala National Park and the crater was very well guided; Dan was our driver/guide. He took our group of about 10 people to great photo sites, and was very friendly, upbeat, and funny. He was very knowledgable and shared great stories about the area. The bike ride: I forgot our guide's name, but he was really great! He lead and paced the front and there was a van blocking traffic in the back who would radio the leader when they needed to have us pull aside and let cars pass. This is the main reason I would never do a "self-guided" bike ride, since you have no control of the traffic. I am glad we did the guided group ride. They go over the bike rules and safety on the van ride up and also prior to getting on the bikes. They do a really great job. But YOU are the rider and you need to pay attention the entire ride. I rode the brakes practically 95% of the ride, and it was still so fun. Keep your distance behind the next cycler. As for the tips comments; I always come on vacation prepared to tip those that work in the service industry and provide a great service; especially this being a hard year for the tourism industry; the tour is a service; and our guides earn much of their income on tips. If you have a problem with tipping; then don't tip as much. It's not required. If I ever make it back to Maui, this is a must-do activity again!

We purchased the tour where the bus takes you up the volcano in the morning and you bike down. The bus tour guide was super knowledgeable and funny, and our guide leading us down the mountain was equally as excited. Seeing the crater was amazing (although a bit cold!) and the bike ride down was beautiful. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

THIS*IS*DANGEROUS!!! While I sat next to my 13 year old (avid cycler) daughter's bed in the emergency room at Maui Memorial Medical Center following her head over handlebars tumble down the volcano, where apparently she followed a little too close to the cycler in front of her and jolted the brakes too hard, the ER doctors told us that they not only see horrific accident victims all too often, but tragic fatalities from these tours on a regular basis and we should tell all of our friends and post online wherever possible to warn others. Our daughter was lucky. Only a minor concussion, facial lacerations, and severe road rash on her arm, hand, and leg. We cancelled our upcoming snorkeling plans and surf lessons, and returned her rented boogie board. The ocean is now off limits for the rest of our vacation due to the high levels of bacteria that could infect her wounds. The doctors said at least 2 weeks away from that water. Please note that the guides make this ride as safe as humanly possible. They had a guide leading and pacing at the front and van blocking traffic in the back who would radio the leader when he was allowing cars to pass so they could try keep the riders to the shoulder, but there are simply too many variables that are out of their control. There IS a lot of traffic, there ARE blind curves and turns all the way down, there ARE unsafe, novice, or unskilled cyclers and cars possibly riding along side you, it IS steep and super fast riding, you MUST completely focus and ride your brakes the entire way down, it is NOT in the general public's best interest. *And yes, they asked for tips a number of times, even after the recent review from July 2021 where their response was that this is not common practice. One of them even went as far as to joke "Can you believe that other guides ask for 15 to 20%? He suggests 25 to 30%."

Very fun experience with a fantastic bus tour up to the summit. Big downside though, we were asked quite aggressively for tips on THREE separate occasions. So unprofessional and awkward. We probably would have left a tip if they hadn't asked so much. Sounds trivial but it was very off putting. Took the experience down a notch for sure. Especially having paid so much for the trip!

Our summit and park tour guide Kimo was amazing. He had interesting facts about the landscape and hilarious stories! Our guide down the mountain was Julio who was equally fun. We had lunch in a little town on the way down. This made for a great day.

Our group of riders (aged 55 to 17) did the morning self-guided tour. When I was first unable to book the sunrise tour, I was disappointed. However, I think I enjoyed the morning tour even more because you could look at all of the scenery going up, as opposed to going up in the dark. Plus, we were not freezing in the predawn hours. Additionally, the tour guide was very informative about the different sites we would see on our descent. If I had to make any modification, I think members of our group would have wanted to hike a little bit before getting their bicycles. Still, I think the company went above and beyond to make people feel comfortable by supplying rain gear and extra layers, free of charge. Please be sure to pack a little tip money for the driver, because they are really excellent tour guides for the mountain and the community.

This bike tour was amazing! We booked the guided tour, so we wouldn’t get lost and have a bus follow us in case someone needed to catch a ride back down. It. Was. Amazing! Our guide Juleo was so informative, and ensured we remained safe the entire tour. Would highly suggest the guided tour over the self guided! The guided tour included a bus behind the last biker and would hold off the oncoming cars. It made the experience much more enjoyable by not constantly being passed by cars. The ride up to the summit was also great. Our bus driver Dan knew so much about the history and culture- I would do this tour again with this company the next trip to Maui! Also- lots of the helmets had go pro hook ups!

This company is terrible with refunds. I am hoping i get my $712.23 back. I would not use this company for your guided bike tour. I am going to discourage all my friends and family.
