Our guide, Heather, was great fun and kept us safe as we traversed the glacier. She was very knowledgeable about the geology and history of the glacier, and kept our group of young adults through seniors engaged. It is most sobering to see the swift rate of decline in the size of the glacier. We are so glad we had this opportunity!

We debated this one long and hard. But, we decided that on our one week hiking trip in Banff and Jasper National Parks that we would splurge on a glacier walk. We were pleasantly surprised by the experience. Our guide did a great job of explaining the surrounding terrain and pointing out interesting features on the glacier. We were so happy to be hiking on the glacier and not riding one of the busses on steroids out to the glacier. Ice Walks provided the crampons and any other gear needed to make the hike pleasant.

Before joining this tour, I emailed to specifically ask about the level of difficulty and was told the guide walks up the ‘tourist trail’ to the glacier before going on the ice. I googled the trail and could see it was well formed and very manageable. On the day of our tour, our guide unfortunately did not take this route onto the glacier, instead taking the very rocky option through the moraine. He returned via the tourist trail. The other people on our tour had no issue with the moraine but I found it difficult. The guide stopped at times to share information and give others a break but because I was behind the pack, I missed some info and didn’t really get breaks. Walking on the glacier was amazing but short lived. If we’d taken the tourist trail we would’ve been at the ice much sooner. I am leaving this review as I want people to be aware they may need to negotiate a steep, rocky moraine. I did also email Ice Walks who explained the route to the ice has to change with the glacier changes - but the tourist track is always there and usable so I’m still unclear why the guide took the route he did.

The glacier is stunning up close, with all the different colors and textures and features of the ice. It's also really cool to see the uncovered rocks. There weren't a ton of options to stop and take photos, but I feel like I got the essentials. Hike is steady uphill, up a trail and then up the glacier - easy for regular hikers, but may make others out of breath. Not slippery at all with the crampons they provide everyone. This is a unique way to see the glacier and its ice features up close.

Two stars for the must see glacier, but our guide had no empathy at all, so word of warning to all, if you are not young, super fit, and active take some other tour.

We had a fantastic time touring on the glacier. Icewalks provided an excellent experience. We enjoyed the small group size and knowledgeable guide. We learned a lot and got some great pictures. They provided gear (crampons, waterproof pants, coats, etc). If needed. You get to explore a lot more with the walk and have a more personalized experience. AMAZING!!!

The beauty of the glacier. Something not everyone gets to experience especially future generations. Verycold but added to the experience.

Our guide Heather was great! Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, helpful and mindful of the clients. I did it and thoroughly enjoyed it but at 72 years old I felt I was slowing the group down a bit as it was near the limit of my physical capabilities.

Jason is an awesome guide. Takes safety of his tourists seriously. This was a more moderate hike, not easy, we enjoyed it thoroughly and took lots of pictures.

Heather is a great guide. We went higher and spent more time on the glacier than we had anticipated and were very pleased. We were there to get a little talk from the NASA team on the glacier.

walking on the glacier was exciting, Viator company is very honest, one of our friends cannot continue on walk once we started climbing up the hill. Viator refund the money to her right away.

The ice walk was a bucket list experience! We got to walk on the glacier, take so many photos, drink glacier water and learn so much. Mike was an amazing guide who took the time to teach us about the glacier, take photos, and Make the hike very fun. The hike isn’t difficult but I wouldn’t recommend it if you have trouble with some incline/knees etc. Would 10000% recommend!

A unique way to visit the Icefields. Our guide was great! We had visited years ago on the big vehicle and this was a far superior way to experience the Icefields (not to mention much more environmentally friendly.

Walking on a glacier is an unforgettable experience. Our guide was Anne and she did a great job of showing us some interesting points on the glacier and allowed us time to take photos. The walk up to the glacier was not difficult and the walk on the glacier, with the crampons, was easy. We saw all the buses going up and down and smelt the nasty diesel fumes, if you are in reasonable shape, please do the walk and not the bus, it is not environmentally friendly and you really do not get any real experience of the glacier!!

All the information provided by the tour guide. Great stories and data on the glacier. He brought a lot of knowledge and experience on the current status of climate and glacier conservation

I strongly recommend IceWalks to anyone looking to truly experience the Athabasca Glacier! Our guide, Ari (Ariana), was so knowledgable and entertaining throughout the whole experience. Being able to walk on a glacier and even drink fresh glacier water is a life-changing experience. This is a MUST DO activity if you are visiting Banff or Jasper National Parks. It is not too difficult of a hike, with the more strenuous portion being before stepping onto the glacier itself. We have people of all ages on our tour and Ari paced the hike for all. I strongly encourage everyone to choose this walking tour instead of the buses with another company. It was very humbling to be learning about how quickly the glaciers are receding due to climate change and look to the left and see a gasoline powered bus driving people onto the glacier.

The hike on the glacier was absolutely a highlight of our trip to the Canadian Rockies. There are not many places where an average person can walk on a glacier and we are so glad we took advantage of this one. Our guide Nick was supremely knowledgeable about all things glacier-related and that was great because we had so many questions. Just as importantly, he made sure everyone was safe at all times. The pace was reasonable with plenty of rest stops filled with Nick sharing his knowledge and answering questions so don't be too scared by the physical exertion required.
