Incredible! We went on the grizzly bear tour, and it was a beautiful experience. The main guide (boat captain) was wonderful and extremely friendly. The bear guides were fantastic, the lunch they provided was delicious, and we were lucky enough to see orcas on the way. Additionally, we had the amazing opportunity to witness a mother bear and her cub enjoying salmon. Highly recommend!

Wonderful small-scale excursion, carried out by a dedicated group of professionals from the Homalgo First Nation Tribe. Experienced skipper and on-board guide, high quality lunch ( make sure you inform them in advance of dietary wishes ! ), restroom on board and on the island where the grizzlies live, breathtakingly beautiful scenery and powerful first acquaintance with stories and songs from the Homalgo First Nation culture. Plus a 100% seeing rating for the bears in 2023! We went on the very last excursion of the season and saw grizzlies, bald eagles, fish eagles and Steller sealions.

Though I am a local, being able to view a Grizzly Bear has been on my bucket list for a while. I felt fortunate that I had waited until now to go. I felt that I was in comfortable hands and was able to enjoy the tour and not worry about my safety. Ron was an excellent captain of the boat. I found our co-pilot, Janet to be extremely knowledgeable on the various wildlife, and her knowledge of First Nations history made the tour enjoyable. Upon arriving at Orford Bay we were met by James and Stu, who were our guides on land, who were also very knowledgeable of the history, culture and stories of the First Nations territory. Again I was impressed by the safety that the whole team had for us guests. Being in the bears territory , one team member would watch in one direction and another would watch in the other direction, while we were told the history and stories of the culture. On our first stop we saw a Grizzly Bear not more than 10 feet from the lookout tower, and we saw many eagles also. On the way back home to Campbell River we saw Sea Lions, seals, eagles, and cormorants. I will definitely go on this tour again next year. Thank you for this amazing experience.

Such an amazing trip! We went towards the end of the salmon run but still saw some Grizzlies! Even saw a mom and her Cub! The views are absolutely breathtaking on the boat ride and while eating the provided lunch on the dock. The team even tracked some whales on the way back and we saw a family of orcas! Trip is worth the money!

An excellent day all round and so good, I went again. Worth the time and effort to get to Campbell River. Great service from the office before-hand and Sharon was super helpful when I arrived telling me where to go to see bears locally. One of my better experiences and a really professional outfit.

Such a wonderful experience…we saw humpbacks, dolphins, stellar sea lions and of course grizzlies…we have so many great memories of our day. If you can do this excursion, do it! Jared and Wilson were excellent bear guides. They made us feel safe and were just straight up nice people…we never felt rushed and spent a lot of time with different wildlife… It was awesome learning about the Homalco people too… I really can’t say enough about this trip….it’s just amazing!

A beautiful tour with lots of great info from our guides (who were also family!) Cassie, Flavian, Cheyenne and Gary. We saw 13 bears! As well as sea lions, harbor seals, porpoises and bald eagles. Delicious sandwiches for lunch and the scenery was amazing. A special shout-out to family cousin Jadea for being great company on the trip! Would love to come back with my daughter sometime :)

Amazing Company. Very friendly staff. We went on the great bears of the brute trip on 7 october and it was fantastic. Saw 2 grizzly bears and 3 black bears, couple of eagles, 3 whales, and a lot of sealions. We learned a lot about the animals and history of the natives. The boat and bus rides where very comfortable. Loved every second of this amazing day.

This is my 3rd Grizzly tour out of CR. the first was Tobe Inlet and other two were Bute Inlet. All tours were excellent. I was drawn to the boats used by Homalco tours. They are only a couple of years old, comfortable seating inside with very large windows AND awesome outdoor seating at the bow for each of the 12 max guests. Al the captain was very skilled and informative re FN history, bears and wildlife! Naturalist on board was knowledgeable but relatively peripheral to the experience. The FN guides/staff at the viewing area were very experienced, fun and safety conscious. Saw 5 different Grizzlies including a close encounter with a resting grizzly away from viewing platforms. We saw humpbacks on the 2.5 hour trip to the grizzly viewing area AND orcas on the return trip. It was also just past the Truth and Reconciliation holiday in Canada which made the experience especially meaningful for me. I hope to return next year!! Tipping is a bit confusing. 2 sets of staff with one payment. Not clear if one tip covers all staff or tip the staff separately? I asked and was told separate so did that. Could be bumpy trip if windy.

My son and I took a Homalco Tours grizzly bear watching expedition on October 4th. What an awesome experience. Our guides Gary and Cheyanne were fabulous. First and foremost, they looked after our safety while ensuring we saw as many grizzlies as possible. We saw grizzlies fishing in the river and then enjoying their catch. We even saw a Mum and her cub. Thank you, Gary and Cheyanne, for not only sharing your immense knowledge of grizzles but also your language and culture.

We visited here as a part of the tour provided by Campbell River Whale Watching and Adventure Tours (also reviewed on there) It was the highlight of our Canada holiday. Alex & Zoe on the boat and Stewert & James on the bear bus all did a great job of finding wildlife and making it a day to remember. On the bear tour, we saw 8 grizzlies, some of them fishing for salmon just a few metres away. Stewert provided lots of information about the animals and the local culture (plus a few old jokes to keep everyone smiling).

Great trip with interesting guides - Janet, Ron, Stewert and James. Saw plenty of grizzlies and bald eagles. Although a cold and rainy day, the boat was warm and comfortable. Unfortunately no whales sighted but we did see porpoises. Decent lunch, memorable trip.

I Thank you for a great tour, Guide was very knowledgeable about everything we saw around the beauty in Homalco territory. Driver was very pleasant in driving. It is aways nice to nature in its own habitat. Keep up the great work Homalco. The water drive was amazing, guide was also very informative about all species of birds whales, stories. Thank you Janet, Capitan Ron wonderful boat ride.

Incredible and unique experience seeing the Grizzly Bears in their natural habitat. The tour is well organized. Janet shared interesting history of the area and First Nation during the boat ride. Our guides to see the bears made sure we were safe and having a wonderful experience.

Words can not describe how amazing this trip is. Seals, Whales, porpoises, dolphins and Grizzlies. The 1st nation guides are amazing and seeing the bears fishing was one of the highlights of our trip to BC.

Calm seas and blue skies gave us a picture-book backdrop for our visit to the Bute Inlet where we were met by our First Nation Guides, Calvin and Gary. In the next 3 hours we saw 10 different bears - some very close - but all of them more interested in the amazing number of running salmon than us - we always felt entirely safe. As we reflect on an amazing experience (during which we also saw eagles, sea lions and a distant whale) we are immensely grateful not just for the privilege of being with the animals in their habitat, but also because we learned so much about them - and also about the First Nation story and culture. Homalco's boat, crew (Paul & Holly) and shore-side admin could not be faulted. Expensive? Perhaps - but worth every penny (or cent as you call it!)

Seeing grizzlies was the highlight but so were the knowledgeable guides on the ground and on the boat. The captain was also wonderful with her knowledge of marine life. To hear more about the First Nations culture was a privilege. We loved it all.
