Luis was a great tour guide! We were staying out in the suburbs next to the Olympic park but Luis was able to come pick us up at our hotel. He asked what kind of sights we wanted to see, nature vs history vs popular sights, etc. Since we were only in town for two days, we opted for the overview of main sights with a great lunch spot suggested by Luis. He was friendly, informative, and it was great that he was able to give us local insights while offering suggestions of more off the beaten path places to see. In addition to the Christ and Sugarloaf l, he brought us to a local restaurant he frequents and the beautiful botanical gardens where he frequented as a child. If looking for a local tour and guide, skip the group tour and hire Luis for a custom private tour, you won’t regret it!

My friend and I did this tour back in November and it was perfect. I love that we got to choose what we wanted to see and got to experience more of Rio than a regular tour. My absolute favorite was getting to go to market and try all these different fruits we have never tried before

I'm from Rio de Janeiro and took my boyfriend, who's Italian, to this tour - and both of us were equally impressed! Luis knows not only the major history of the town and places, but the nuanced details entrenched in the local culture, which sometimes residents never give a second thought. He explains how current behaviors and traditions arose from the societal structure in the Colonial days and much, much more. Not only that, he has a whole pre-set dynamics with locals in the markets he takes us to (our local "farmers markets"), and goes the extra mile to make sure the experience is great, adapting each step of the tour based on the customer's wants and needs. Finally, he also explores off-the-beaten-path places that you wouldn't see in more popular tours. 10s across the board for Luis! Would 100% go on another tour with him!

Luis is an amzing tour guide. He accommodated our needs and tailored our tour so that we can enjoy the beauty and culture of Rio. We traveled with seniors and a toddler, but Luis has made our trip very seamless. Since we all are foodies, Luis took us to hidden gems in Rio and we got to try delicious local food during our trip. Luis was an amazing tour guide! I had a blast going up to Christ the Redeemer, touring Santa Teresa, and visiting the National Park in Rio. The places we stopped for Pao de Quiejo and Feijoada were intimate and charming and the food was unbelievably good even if the Caiprinha’s were a bit dangerous. What stuck out to me about touring with Luis wasn’t just the sights and the meals, but the depth of knowledge he had about everything. It’s one thing to see Rio but to hear detailed stories about every little facet of culture and how it came to be was truly fascinating. His English was flawless and I got a huge kick out of being able to converse with him about the culture of Brazilians and their opinions and ideologies and how those were shaped by Brazil’s history. I would highly recommend him!

HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Luis was a fantastic tour guide. From the beginning he shared his extensive knowledge of the not only the history of Rio, but how everything connects. He gave us time for tourist shopping, photos, and told us exactly where the best photos would be taken. The travel and tickets were all seamless. We even went to a local restaurant for a delicious traditional lunch. At the lunch - he stepped out quickly to get us his favorite cheese bread (it was amazing). I took 2 tours with Luis, and both of them were stunning. I promise you, the customer, he will make you enjoy Rio and all it has to offer! You ask him what activies you want to do, and he will make it happen. One the first day of tour, me and him covered the must see sights of Rio (Christ the Redeemer, Santa Teresa, mountains, etc.). Side note: though your iternary may be different. All the sights were amazing and knows when to visit them to give you the best opportunities to observe all of them. Also, along the way we did try some street food and fruits native only to Brazil, which were all amazing. On our second day and my last day Rio, Luis took me hiking along various place to look at nature and viewpoints of Rio. All the nature and viewpoints were stunning and breathtaking. Then we went to see the soccer stadium briefly and went to lunch at a local spot, which was delicious. Lastly, he took me to the city across the bay where tourists do not visit that often. We looked at some amazing architecture, which looked strange, but represented the surroundings of Rio. Lastly, before he took me to the airport, we looked at the sunset of Rio to end my vacation on a very good high note. Our full day tour with Luis was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Brazil. We started the day by going to Christ Redeemer right as it opened. We arrived 10 minutes late and there was already a long line, but because Luis knows the workers there, we were able to bypass the line and saved 15-20 minutes. After the Christ Redeemer, Luis took us to a local market where we tried tapioca, a bunch of unique fruits from Brazil, as well as some empanadas and fresh sugar cane juice. From there we ventured to the botanical gardens where Luis gave us a very thorough overview of the history of the gardens and even helped us spot a group of monkeys hiding in some of the trees. After the gardens he took as to see some water falls as well as an incredible view of Rio from high in the mountains. The last stop of the trip was Santa Teresa, where we walked the streets of the historic town and got to experience our first true açaí (Not even comparable to the stuff we have in the US...it was incredible). He took us to try cheese balls at his self proclaimed best spot in all of Brazil...they didn't disappoint. All in all, our day with Luis couldn't have gone better. We learned so much about the history of the city, the culture, and what makes Rio so special. I highly recommend booking a tour with him as you'll be able to experience way more in one day than you possibly could trying to do it on your own. He knows the ins and outs of the major attraction spots and is able to streamline the tour. Not to mention he's just a great guy and his passion for Rio makes the trip much more exciting.

Luis is a great guide. He knows the history, the insights and meets his clients needs throughout the day. The knowledge of the city and the country is incredible. He let's you design the day--but offers suggestions throughout. Sometimes guides can leave you exhausted without any insight into the city or country. But Luis has great communication skills and empathy to tailor the day to fit your desires. Nothing but the strongest recommendation. Great English speaker and he has spent a lot of time in the US so his comparisons and knowledge of issues that would interest US citizens makes the tour come to life.

My husband and I booked a 4 day custom tour with Luis! Unfortunately, my husband ended up in the hospital for two days!! Luis was nice enough to bring us to the hospital and stay with me to make sure the check in went smoothly. Even though we lost two out of the four days, we had such an amazing time and saw so many main attractions in such a short period of time. We saw Christ the Redeemer, Selaron steps, Olympic blvd, sugarloaf mountain, botanical gardens, farmers market, just to name a few. He even recommended some pretty cool places that not even the locals knew about!! But I won’t put it here….you have to book him to be surprised! Haha Luis is knowledgeable about so many things…. beaches, buildings, plants, animals, historical information…. You name it! I highly recommend Luis! We will be back for sure and will be choosing him again as our tour guide!
