I interviewed a number of people in planning this 5 day fishing trip for me and my two sons, ages 20 and 24. They are both experienced fly-fishermen. We ended up choosing to do 3 days on a camping and fishing trip on the Collon Cura river and then spent the final two days doing a trips on the Limay, staying at a hotel in Bariloche. This turned out to be a wonderful trip for us. For starters, the first three days saw us catch about 100 fish on the fly. See the pictures for a few of them. In addition to the breathtaking scenery, and the great weather, our guides were truly world class and the camp and support team were fantastic. Our guides Juan and German put us on fish all day long as they worked the river tirelessly. The end of each day had us pulling into a camp that was set up with drinks and appetizers that preceded a delicious grilled meal served with a bottle or two of a Malbec. We might have had a bottle at lunch also. There were no bad wines. Not sure I had a subpar bottle in my time in Argentina. Thank you for the camp set up, Renzo and Gusti! My boys said they felt like princes in a scene in the Game of Thrones. But back to the fishing - definitely worth the trip. I have done a number of trips to Alaska and Canada and the Bahamas. This was as well run and productive as any of them. We spent the last two days chasing the trophies on the Limay, which is one of the prettiest rivers I have had the pleasure of fishing. We had some good follows by some big fish but didn’t connect. Thank you for the guiding there Juan and Sebastian. We were a little early in terms of the migration on March 19 and 20. I would look to land solidly in the last week of March or into April if you are targeting the trophy browns. But as you can see we did fine on the Cullen Cura. I would highly advise doing the camping if you are able. I would be happy to connect with you by phone through Martin if you have specific questions about either trip or your stay in Bariloche, which is spectacular on its own. And a last shout out to Martin. Martin was always available and always followed through on everything he said he would do. He is fantastic and happy to talk to you about how you might structure your trip. Thank you for the great trip and memories Martin and team! Michael

I did two separate trips with Outfitter’s Patagonia and both were excellent. We fished the Collon Cura for four days and really enjoyed the combined fishing and camping experience. We caught lots of fish ( rainbow, brown and even a few perch). Great guides and comfortable cots and tents for overnight. The food and wine were delicious. I also booked a one day fishing trip on the Lemay and our guide brought rods for streaming and nymphing. I had 4 guides in total and all were so friendly and knowledgeable. No tangled line or missing fly was ever a problem. We had a variety of experience levels with fly fishing and the guides made it work for all of us, and were very pleasant and helpful the whole time. Martin was incredibly helpful before the trip answering all our questions (of which there were many)). He was also very pleasant and helpful post trip. I am already planning our trip back and would highly recommend this outfitter!

This was a fantastic experience. Our guide, Sebastian, was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient—and a wonderful cook. They have everything you need, just show up with appropriate clothing for the conditions and you are set. While I have fished my whole life, this was my first time on a fly setup and my wife’s first time freshwater fishing, or close to it, period. Seba had us both up and running in no time. I ended up landing three trout (one tiny rainbow and one rainbow and one brown maybe 2lbs each). Will never forget my first fish on the fly, fun fights and beautiful fish. My wife had several bites and loved the experience as well—Limay itself is a beautiful river and landscape worth seeing from the boat. Only downside is I might be addicted to fly fishing now.

Had a great time on the Limay River. We did the 3 Day / 2 Night camping trip and the only thing I can complain about is the fact the fish weren't moving as much as I would have liked. We still caught fish and our guide made sure we did! The team took great care of us and cant wait to do it again!

This was our favorite activity/excursion we have ever done, and we’ve been a lot of places and done some pretty cool things. We have done several full day fly fishing trips in the western US including Alaska, but this experience cannot be beat. Just book this experience. From start to finish, everything is excellent. Communication, guides, food, location, there is not a single thing less than perfection. I’ve been talking to Martin for years since we had to postpone our South America trip three times due to COVID and country restrictions. It was certainly worth the wait. Martin was very friendly, accommodating, and understood why we needed to delay our trip. Communication was always very clear. We did the 2 day trip with an overnight camp. Besides our guides, we didn’t see anyone for those 2 days! It was unreal. In the states, we always see other people fishing but not here. My husband and I caught dozens of fish over our two days. The food and camp setup is worthy of its own post. The picnic lunch the first day set the stage for what was to come and it only got better. After fishing all day, we arrived at camp to see a whole chicken on the grill as well as appetizers, baked potatoes, and plenty of beverage options. All the food was amazing!! Camp was spaced out, and our tent was quite cozy with raised cots and nice sleeping bags. Breakfast the next day blew us away as well, and we caught even more fish on day 2. This review will never give the experience justice. Just book it. You won’t regret it.

marvelous team work with the guides. they all love fishing and work together to make things easy for camping and fishing. German met us at the airport and we immediately felt comfortable with the plans and had after a walk in town he picked us up for a memorable first dinner at El Bostiche del Alberto - great evening. Sebastian and Renzo made it a seamless camping, cooking and wine experience. Lucas is a very knowledgeable fisherman with a good sense of humor: As I told Juan - after a few days it was like fishing with a good friend. Except that this friend knows a lot more than most. Juan has in depth knowledge of the fish and fauna we encountered on the rivers.

This is the 6th year that I have used Outfitters Patagonia, Martin organizes everything to perfection. This year our guide was German, an absolute joy to pass 3 days with him. He has all the qualities that are needed to be a professional guide, he is punctual, very friendly (it is like going fishing with an old friend), does everything possible to put you in a position to catch fine trout, plus he is an excellent cook (lunches were exceptional). This year a had the good fortune of catching a medium sized brown plus a brown of about 5kgs. I would thoroughly recommend Outfitters Patagonia, and what better recommendation can I give than I have already reserved my 3 days for 2025!

The week before Christmas our group fished for a week with Outfitters Patagonia. We fished several rivers and lakes. Rio Limay, Rio Manso, Lake Hess and Rio Caleufu were all outstanding water to fish. Martin Freeman helped us plan the trip and then excellent guides German and Juan took care of us for the week. The fishing was outstanding and the guides knew how to get us on fish. Camp was run superbly by Sabastian and Renzo. We combined a three day float on the Rio Caleufu with day trips based out of Bariloche. Every day brought new water and new highlights to the trip. Everyone in our group agreed the trip exceeded all of our expectations!

We had a wonderful day on the Limay River with guide Juan. Not only is he an expert fishing guide, he is an aquatic biologist and very knowledgeable about the river ecosystem, and the birds and plants along the river. Highly recommended!

I had an incredible day of fishing on the river with my excellent guide Sebastian, who put me in the right location, with the right techniques to catch Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and local Perch. Fun, friendly and patient, he also cooked up an amazing riverside lunch with steak, salad and wine. He was happy to take pictures of all my catches, and we talked and joked all day long. This was money well spent, and was definitely one of the highlights of my two month trip to Argentina. I would absolutely recommend this guide service.

We did a full day trip with our family of four (kids age 18 and 15). We were a little nervous because we had very little fly fishing experience but we had the BEST time. We learned to roll cast and straight cast and caught a lot of rainbow and brown trout. Our guides, Juan and German, were terrific! We also had a delicious lunch and gorgeous views. Definitely would do this again and HIGHLY recommend the is experience for any family!!!

My wife and I were treated to 2 days of fly fishing on the Limay and Manso Rivers near San Carlos de Bariloche. Our guide German was excellent and very patient, especially with my wife Cookie who was fly fishing for the first time. We caught brown and rainbow trout using streamers and dry flies. One of the nice perks from our trip was the food that was cooked by German along the stream topped off with a bottle of Malbec wine. We were treated to alfajores providied by German. He provided us with door to door transportation at the apartment where we stayed. The area around Bariloche is absolutely. We saw snow-capped mountains from the Andes and rainbows over the Nahuel Huapi Lake. We're ready to go back again.

I can’t recommend this company enough. I’ve done guided trips on the Kenai and this was totally different. Our guide, Juan, was a biologist who knew everything about the river, fish and wildlife on the river. The conditions were tough, windy, but we caught fish all day. We camped out for two days and felt like we are in a fine hotel. Lunch on the river with beautiful Argentine wines, appetizers when we got off, dinners I can’t recommend them enough. Juan even had to pull a hook buried deep in my wrist. Argentina is exactly as perfect as you think and this company can show you the best of it.

Just returned from the most fabulous fly fishing trip I have ever been on. Martin picked us up from the airport, and then we were on the Limay river for 3 nights and 4 days. The guides were very knowlegable, and friendly. The food was supurb as were the tent facilities. I would not use any other group other than OIutfitters Patagonia. Also the fish were HUGE!!!!

Martin and his team are first class. The friendliness, customer service, and professionalism are the best I have experienced on an all-inclusive guided fishing trip... and I've been on quite a few. We did a three night/four day camping trip and then two day trips (staying at a beautiful perfect waterfront hotel). The 'camping' was glamping - large tents, cots and air mattresses, etc. And it was all set up and waiting for us after a long day of fishing. After hors d'oeuvres and plentiful adult beverages, the in-camp chef provided amazing meals. And Argentinian wine was always on the table. In the morning, we were treated to a full hot breakfast before heading back onto the river... the crew took care of packing up everything and leap frogged us during the day to set up the next glamping site. Oh, and the lunches on the river were almost as good as in camp - table cloths, wine, etc. I would give the fishing maybe 3.5 stars... BUT, we were late in the season and it was our first time ever chunking big streamers all day long for trophy trout. It is a trophy fishing trip - at least ours was - and the possibility of true monster trout (ten pounders) exists. We did catch a couple 3-4 pounders and one 5+, but the numbers and size of fish relative to four decent fishermen continuously fishing for 8-10 hours a day was less than I expected. This has nothing to do with the enthusiasm and expertise of the guides, and more to do with 'fish being fish' and the late part of the season (and probably our unfamiliarity with dragging big streamers in deep fast water all day long). If I were to go back, it would be in December or January. What sets Outfitters Patagonia apart from others is the genuine friendliness and personableness of Martin and his guides and crew. From even before we officially booked, Martin was easily and promptly accessible, answering any and all questions and making the often complex process of airplane tickets, licenses, international payments etc., very easy. Once on the ground, he 'held our hand' from the airport to the river. He took us to the best restaurants in town (always staying with us and helping us sort through the menu and engaging in enthusiastic conversation), completely sorted out the hotel, and catered to our every request. His English is as good as ours and his business is professional in all aspects. His guides even took us to an 'off the tourist path' gaucho store on the way back from the river one day so we could buy authentic souvenirs. For us at least, an Argentinian trout expedition was a once in a lifetime bucket list event, and I am certainly glad I found an outfitter like Outfitters Patagonia.

After hearing about Outfitters Patagonia from some good friends who have done this trip many times, 4 intermediate fly fishermen decided that it was time to see what all the fuss was about. We were not disappointed! Martin was extremely helpful in answering all of our questions - we had a lot. His advice was extremely valuable. Flights, currency, hotels, clothing, food were all topics he helped us with. When we arrived in Bariloche, we never had to worry about a thing as Martin was there to make sure everything was taken care of. We decided to go on a 4 day/3 night camping and fishing trip, followed by 2 days chasing the big Browns in the Limay River. All our equipment (besides our clothes and personal items) were provided at no extra cost. That included fishing gear, waders, wading boots and flies. The equipment was all good quality and well maintained. The camping was well done - great meals, great guides, great people, great fishing. The camp tents were set up as 2 people per tent on comfortable cots. We caught plenty of Brown and Rainbow Trout - probably 10-25 per day/per person in the 12 to 22 inch range. While camping we were able to see plenty of wildlife such as birds of prey (I saw a condor!), wild boar, llamas, etc. The Red Stag were bugling all over, while camping but we were not lucky enough to see them - maybe next time. The food was great while camping - I am now a fan of red wine with lunch - and the full bar and cold beer were a bonus. Our guides, who go through an extensive training program for their certification, were Herman and Juan. Both were excellent. Our group has fished with many guides in the US over the years, both good and bad. After the camping trip, we spent a couple nights at our comfortable hotel and did two day trips on the Limay, including a (requested) hands on lesson on how to fish the Boca de Limay. Chasing the big Browns is a high cast to low catch proposition, but the payoff can be great. We did not land the huge one, but did manage a couple 1.5 to 2 kg fish. Not bad for a first time. While in Bariloche, we did some tourist shopping and ate like kings thanks to Martin's guidance. Some notes: The red wine beer are great and reasonable. Mixed drinks at restaurants are available but selection can be limited. The fishing we did was primarily streamer fishing. Different times of year can be dry flies or droppers, so check with Martin if you have a preference. There is even a dragonfly hatch on the lakes at some point. That sounded fun. March is a cooler month with some wind, but it was very pleasant (40 to 70 degrees F on average). The camping trip we did was east of Bariloche and was rainfree. It is drier the further east you get from Bariloche. The camping trip allowed for long days of fishing. Some days were 11 hours, but you can let Martin know if you have a preference for shorter days. He will accomodate your wishes. The people of Argentina are extremely friendly. We always felt safe and everyone made an effort to speak to us in English (our Spanish is terrible). I hope you get a chance to experience the country and Outfitters Patagonia!

We had an absolute blast on our river run. Juan was absolutely amazing. He provided great instruction for a beginner in our group and made the whole day perfect. Everything was far beyond our expectations. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the area.

Whether you are a seasoned fly fisher or novice, Outfitters Patagonia, is who you should use for your fly-fishing experience in the area. We did two full days with Herman, the lead guide, who was incredible. He covered everything, from picking us up at our hotel, getting the boat ready, taking us to the best fishing spots, changing our flies based on the conditions and not to mention cooking some delicious meals. All we had to do was enjoy the fishing and beautiful scenery. Herman also did a great job of giving us tips on improving our technique and showed us several new tricks. The equipment is top of the line and well maintained. Our only regret was not doing an overnight fishing trip with them. However, it is on our list of things to do in the future, and we will certainly be using Outfitters Patagonia again.
