George was a tremendous guide, combining a wealth of historical knowledge and family oral history. He connected many dots: economic history, geography, and the story of a great city. He has wonderful enthusiasm and does an incredible job of engaging his guests/pupils. As a university professor I was really impressed and learned a great deal!

Wonderful tour! Wish we had done this on the first day of our trip because we learned so much. My children loved the history, stories and information.

George was very accommodating. He picked me up early at a location of my choice as I had arrived by Amtrak at 5 in the morning. He booked me on a 6:30 tour which was perfect timing. George is passionate about his beautiful and wonderful city of Pittsburg. I was only in town for one day so I needed someone to give me a feel for the unique and vibrant history of Pittsburg. I had no idea how vital the city was to America's expansion and industrial growth. If you enjoy history as I do, don't miss this tour. He may be the best tour operator I have ever had and at 70 years of age I have had my share of tours. Thank you sir for a very enjoyable time.

George is the greatest ambassador for Pittsburgh! You will never meet a person who knows the history of his hometown. He expresses it with so much passion and enthusiasm, that by the end of the tour he makes you wish Pittsburgh was your hometown too.

This tour was excellent and the reason why - George and his personal stories / connection the to region. So many times, you have guides who are transplants and learn some history - but here - you have someone who has a family legacy from the region and many more stories about the locations! Countless hidden gems and excellent personality. He answered questions and remained highly engaged during the tour which makes the difference. He cared about who we were and where we were from. We shared stories about steel towns on the east and west of Pennsylvania. Some striking similarities and it warmed my heart since my grandparents and parents worked in the steel industry. Highly recommend!!!

We’ve been living in Pittsburgh for 15 years or so and we were really surprised how much we learned about the city in the tour! It was fascinating to hear how this (relatively small) city has been so pivotal in expansion, industry, technology. George was a wonderful and friendly tour guide and had great photographs we could look at while we were exploring the city to enhance the storytelling. It was nice to hear the oral history stories from his family as well. Who knew steelworkers had their own patron saint commissioned by the pope? Just one of the many gems you’ll discover on the tour!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Fire in the Valley tour! George was a fantastic tour guide. He is so much fun, so knowledgeable and made our time so interesting and enjoyable. I highly recommend taking this tour with George to anyone who wants to know what they are looking at as they drive around in Pittsburgh!

The guide ignored the title and description of the tour. We did NOT receive a tour of the steel mills. Very disappointing

We had a private tour with George. There were 3 adults plus your guide and we used the tour guides car to drive around town and get an in-depth tour of the history of Pittsburgh and it’s early era of industry. Very knowledgeable about the of the century events and landmarks that would probably won’t read about in the books!

The tour was exceptional! It was a full 2+ hours of sights and information about steel manufacturing in Pittsburgh. There was also plenty of current information thrown in for good measure. George was a great driver, fun, and full of zest for the wonderful city of Pittsburgh. We highly recommend taking any tour with him!

This tour was very deceiving, the tour took place inside a personal vehicle and showing us pictures from a book Not once did we see any kind of steel mills. Your advertisement shows a group of people wearing hard hats and walking around the mills. I felt it was false advertisement. I would like a full refund, who do I contact?

George DeBolt is an amazing tour guide. Maybe the best I've had and I've had a lot. We learned a lot about the incredible history of Pittsburgh.

Because the steel industry is a fraction of what it was this is the only way to explore the rich history of steel in Pittsburgh. Charles has a thorough knowledge of the subject that is supplemented with a binder of past pictures and maps. Pair with a trip to the Heinz Museum Innovations exhibition to get a sense of Pittsburgh’s history.

My aunt and I thought this would be fun for my 12 and 13 year old since they watched The Men Who Built America for school last year. George even suggested we re-watch Season 1 Episode 4 (The Battle of Homestead) the night before because we would be seeing it on our tour. Except we didn't. We didn't go to the last 3 stops on the itinerary and had to specifically ask about the battle on our way back. We did learn a lot so I would have given a higher rating if we'd visited the stops expected and the transportation was better. George was 10 minutes late to our meeting spot, was not organized (pulling binders and wrinkled papers with footprints on them out of his trunk), and his vehicle was not at all what I would have expected for a private tour. It was very crammed and uncomfortable for 4 people, especially shuffling around binders, maps and papers. I was so distracted by the dust and noise from the car that it was difficult to truly enjoy the experience.

Operator would not answer to make a time, until I said 9am or I cancel, then they had time to answer. We were picked up late from our hotel, I had to call them, and of course no answer.Tthey advertise accessible, but the very old clunker small car was very tough to get in and out of, even with only 2 people. If they showed a photo of the car, I never would have booked this. Car windows were small, it was very hard to see much of anything. The driver drove like the devil was chasing him, with his clunker. Not a comfortable trip at all. As far as content, there really was only one building from the steel days left, so this was a used to be tour of mostly empty fields and weeds. Do yourself a favor, and do not book this or the other Pittsburg clunker car tour.
