Jose is very friendly and knowledgeable. Great experience, would easily recommend to anyone who wants to see various villages and highlights of the region.

This tour with José was simply the best! All the other reviews more than reflected our experience. José was delightful, enthusiastic, thoughtful and his knowledge of this region was exemplary. We came away having not only visited the most beautiful places, Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo, Mundaka, but also Guernica, which only left us wanting to learn more about the Basque Country and culture in future. This was a very special day which we will remember and treasure. Thank you José, you have found your vocation, making people happy! Sorry we can’t give you more than five stars!

We had a great time with Jose our guide for the day. Be aware that it’s a long day with some serious walking involved but if you’re reasonably fit it’s well worth it & good value. Would highly recommend.

Our tour through the Coast of Biscay was fantastic. The walk through Gaztelugatxeco was a life time experience, the beauty of the views were truly remarkable. The small towns of Bermeo and Guernica were very picturesque. Lunch at Cafe Antzokia in Bermeo was amazing and the cost of the food was unbelievable cheap. But our experience was greatly enjoyable thanks to our tour guide and new friend José Luis from Bizkaia Maite. We spent all day talking and exchanging culture and historical similarities, as well as, opinions and recommendations, just like life long friends would. If you tour with José Luis, you will learn about the Basque Country and you will earn a new friend. Eskerrik asko, izan ongi, gure lagun berria!

Jose is a great guide, friendly and very knowledgable about the area. The itinerary is great, all of the stops are beautiful and unique.

I recommend this tour wholeheartedly and without any hesitation. Jose owns this business and conducts all tours himself. He has clearly put a lot of thought and planning into the details of this tour. This meant that we avoided crowds in the main. He collected us promptly and we instantly felt at ease with him. He was a very good driver and we felt safe in his car. He was keen to answer our questions about life in the Basque Country, including political and historical subjects. He was also happy to talk about football which pleased our husbands! This was particularly pertinent as Athletico Bilbao were playing in the final of the Copa del Rey the same evening. We were collected from our hotel just before 9am and dropped off just after 6pm. All in all, excellent value for money to get a local’s perspective on the region. We particularly enjoyed Jose’s lunch venue recommendation and the fact that he took lots of lovely photos of us throughout the day, which he then sent to me the same evening. Thank you Jose!

Fantastic trip, and absolutely fantastic guide! Jose just made our day! We booked for a short trip at the Coast of Biscay to see some more places close to Bilbao, as well as to learn more about the Basque Country and its culture and traditions. And Jose just did his best to tell us about the region, the places that we visited and local traditions! He is a real fan of the region, he knows it very well and is very generous to share his knowledge about the Basque Country! Very interesting, very informative and extremely helpful! Plus he showed us really good coffee shops in Berneo and Mundaka, - what my boyfriend couldn’t appreciate more as he’s a real coffee guru. Thanks to Jose this trip was just fabulous!! Many thanks again! And we definitely will come for more!

This was an amazing tour and Jose six stars. He was wonderfully knowledgeable and a delightful man. We toured the coast, climbing the many steps to the church on the island Gaztelugatzxeco. Fabulous scenery. The on to charming coastal towns of Mundako and Bermeo, ending in the town Of Gernika, a town famous for the tragic foreboding on 1937. I learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed.

Fantastic day of learning, sightseeing, food and company with Jose. He is a great guide who gave us a wonderful insight into the history and culture of the Basque region through a tour of some well-known and lesser known areas. He also had some great recommendations for food and other sights in Bilbao. Some of the views were breathtaking. Highly recommended to anyone looking to get out of the city and learn something new!

After a fiasco with TripAdvisor (TA) regarding my previous reservation, this tour made up for it.  We thoroughly enjoyed the trip.  Jose, the owner of Bizkaia Maite Tours, was very accommodating and eager to make our trip fun and worthwhile.   When I realized that I had left my purse at a restaurant (first time in my life) back at a town before we reached Bermeo, he didn't hesitate to give the restaurant a call and drive back to retrieve my purse.  I truly appreciate his generosity.  His ability to gently persuade us to visit Gernikar (after a long, hot, exhausting day) resulted in a triumph: Gernikar proved to be the most interesting place on this tour.  It would have been a shame to have missed seeing this historical town.  One concern I have when I hire a tour guide is his or her driving skills.  Jose is a experienced and careful driver;  I was so glad that he was the one who drove us around.  I highly recommend Jose for this and any other tours conducted by him.

Great day spent with a local guide! Jose picked us up from the hotel and took us on the journey, that we will remember forever! Small towns, no crowds, local restaurant for lunch, beautiful views, lot of history, great stories. It felt like a day spent with a long time friend! Private tours can not compete with group tours! The price was reasonable, very reasonable for the amount of information, attention and time Jose dedicated to just two of us! He is busy for a reason! Loved every minute of it!
