Our cooking class with Nell was AMAZING! She has so much information to share about the history of the food we prepared and ate. The class was informative and delicious. We loved cooking like a local and learning about the neighborhood. Nell was very helpful with the directions to her home. The menu was just as she described and I can't wait to prepare it again at home.

Loved the New Town market and food tour. Had some really excellent bites and guide was very engaging. Loved the haggis, scones, smoked fish, smoked butter, ice cream, cheese & whiskey and we even had a bonus sausage roll from an amazing artisanal shop just by asking our guide. Saw some homes, learned some history of the area and generally had a lovely few hours.

Without this suggestion from Across the Pond Vacations, we would have missed the unique pleasure of spending an evening of cooking and dining with the extraordinary Nell Nelson. Nell graciously welcomed us into her flat in Edinburgh which flowed into an evening of lively conversation, a splash of Lind & Lime gin on the rocks (my wife and I dislike gin normally but this local gin changed our minds!), lessons on how to make Cullen Skink (smoked haddock) that tasted astronomically better than the name sounds to American ears) and yummy Scottish shortbread cookies. A pure fun and educational evening all in one "sitting"! (And, by request, no haggis was served!)

We had a delightful afternoon, with Nell, our guide! Nell was amazing! Seeing Edinburg through the eyes of a local, being introduced to wonderful establishments, eating and drinking amazing concoctions and learning a bit of history along the way was a fabulous way to spend our afternoon. We highly recommend this tour. After the tour, we feel like we really know Edinburg and the wonderful history, culture, foods and people it has to offer. We have been on many foodie tours throughout Europe and this one is definitely a 10 out of 10!

A wonderful way to spend an afternoon! Food was delicious, and Nell was the most friendly, positive and enthusiastic host you could possibly wish for, who loves her home city and has so much interesting knowledge to share about it.

Nell curated a special trip just for us as we could not go during her regular scheduled times. So accommodating!! It was just our small group. I also mentioned my LOVE for pastry and she managed to add in 2 spots that appealed to my own unique tastes!! First, can I say what an infectious zest for food and love of local curators and entrepreneurs Nell has! She is doing something special by drawing attention from big producers and highlighting local businesses that are doing unique and wonderful things in the local food scene in Edinburgh. We discovered a little part of Edinburgh we would have never found on our own. Along the way, we got little bits of history rolled into carefully menu selections at each of our stops. Nell clearly knew the owners and workers at each stop by name, making it clear these are places she not only brings her tours but also frequents herself. She wants to bring her favorites to you! Such attention to detail and a class act all the way. Spunky and lovely, we just enjoyed every minute we had in her company! I wish every tour guide had equal enthusiasm for their subject. We would have done another if we had more time. Fully recommend her tours over the larger tour companies that seem to lack the genuine and personalized attention we received.

What an tasty & entertaining afternoon with Nell our host! She is a wealth of information and fun facts about her hometown of Edinburgh. Nell brought our group to charming food and drink establishments, all the while entertaining us with interesting backstories of New Town area and beyond. All of the establishments we visited were authentically local. Nell’s tour is a must if you want to get a feel of ‘local Edinburgh’.

An evening cooking Scottish dishes with Nell in her beautiful New Town home - what an awesome experience! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as we learned a couple of new recipes, chatted about food in Scotland and further afield, and were entertained in style. Nell was also great at recommending other places to visit - definitely made our trip to Edinburgh a richer experience all around, gave us stories tell back home, and memories to treasure.

Fun. Engaging. Well Researched. Informative. The Leith Food Tour was just a brilliant way to discover what is happening in my own city. I discovered the history and heritage of Leith - a city within a city - and was introduced to fabulous eateries. We ate, and drank, and ate everything from Kedgeree, to scones with cream and an Edinburgh Gin. I didn't need to eat the rest of the day. Go hungry! Nell is the best guide ever - fun, funny, well informed and so easy to get along with.

Enjoy the history and surroundings of this tour, and don't eat before you go! Lovely food and too good to miss any. Nell took us on a time travelling journey by the water, full of Scottish and international treats. This shows you a special side of Edinburgh and Leith. I highly recommend it.

I cannot express enough how delightful our Scottish cooking experience turned out to be. We had an extraordinary time discovering new recipes and getting to know the host. We are deeply grateful for their hospitality in welcoming us into their exquisite home and guiding us in preparing our last meal of our remarkable trip. The experience is one that will stay with me forever.

Cracking tour led by tour guide Bob through the gorgeous Georgian new town to well-heeled Stockbridge. Salmon, haggis, scones, doughnuts, cheese, beer and whisky - what a way to sample some of the best Edinburgh fare while learning more about the city's rich history. Three hours well spent with our excellent guide Bob - good to talk with Dutch party on our tour to get their thoughts on the city and UK in general. Highly recommended!

A very enjoyable and informative few hours with Nell. I've lived in Edinburgh all my life but we visited places I'd never been to. The variety of stops was very good and the food was excellent. I'll definitely be returning to The Bailie for their terrific haggis! Nel was very knowledgable and engaging and we enjoyed learning new things about the New Town. Highly recommend for both residents and visitors.

Nell has been a fantastic, charming, most entertaining and hospitable expert and story-teller. She heartfully guided us to some brilliant places - full of life and locals and with splendid food and drinks. We walked through Edinburgh's New Town, got a great overview as well as were pointed out interesting details, accompanied by a great chat and the possibility to ask all the questions we had. Moreover, we got even more fantastic tips for food-, drink- and sightseeing-experiences afterwards. Thank you, Nell, for this great experience! It was the best food-tour I ever had!

This was one of the best experiences of our trip! We spent the best part of the day with Bob, walking through Edinburgh's New Town. Honestly, we weren't sure what the format was going to be for this tour - we had visions of visiting markets and sampling vendor's goodies. It was not what we thought! We met at a coffee shop and had some good conversations over tea/coffee and scones. We then walked to get a sampling of cheeses, then over to a pub for them to serve the cheese along with some Haggis (it was better than we thought). We had a generous portion of fantastic smoked salmon at another place along with a lovely sparkling gin drink. And throughout the day Bob shared with us his knowledge of New Town and the surrounding areas, and shared some of his history as well. What a lovely way to see and learn about Edinburgh! It was fun for all of us. (Bob also gave us recommendations of other places to stop and see during our travels.) We should have started our visit of Edinburgh with this tour as it really helped us get our bearings. Unfortunately we had to leave the following day, but would have loved to stayed on to do more exploring. This was terrific! Thank you for the great experience.
