We had a lovely time visiting the two villages of this tour. Great guide and really interesting to see how different faiths have mixed here.

Our tour with Rudy was truly perfect. To begin with the basics, Rudy was on time, polite, and friendly. His vehicle was comfortable and clean. And he was a good driver. Initially, he drove us to San Juan Chamula to visit the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista. Rudy clearly explained the history of the area and provided information that helped me to better understand and appreciate what I was seeing, not only the religious culture, but also aspects of the political and family culture of the Tzotzil, the local indigenous peoples. We also visited Tex Art, met with the owner/artist and enjoyed the view from the cafe on top of the building (best tortillas I have ever eaten - brown corn tortillas!). Finally we stopped at the flower filled pueblo and church of Zinacantán. At each stop, Rudy shared so much information without rushing us and instead, provided the time we needed to absorb all that we were seeing. Rodolfo was an enthusiastic guide and I enjoyed our time together. This tour was a valuable experience.

I don't normally enjoy tours, but this one really reminded me of why it's important to take them every once and awhile. It was easy to organize with Rudy (he picked me up from my hotel in the morning), and he has a very deep understanding and passion of the indigenous cultures he shows his guests. There were cultural nuances he explained that would have been impossible to understand if I'd simply researched the places and went by myself. Besides all this knowledge he passed onto us, the tour was the perfect combination of walking, observing, interacting with local artisans, and EATING! If you love exploring new places through the eyes of a local, I definitely recommend this tour.

Everything was perfect from the very beginning of the tour: detailed and clear description of the tour, start on time, comfortable car. The tour itself was also very interesting: I wanted to know what the culture of indigenous peoples really was like, this tour was a great opportunity to do that, the explanations were very detailed and interesting. I especially loved the church in Chamula, it is an amazing place with a unique culture and incredible experience - you will love it! I also really liked the cemeteries; visiting them is not included in standard tours, but it helps to feel the special atmosphere of the villages. I liked Zinacantan too, it was very interesting to see traditional textiles and try local homemade food and even make tortillas myself! Rudy was polite, knowledgeable and answered all my questions, I was never bored throughout the entire tour. Totally recommend!

Chamula and Zinacantán give you the opportunity to experience Chiapaneca indigenous culture from the inside. Rudy is very knowledgeable and answers all your questions, even debunking certain untrue myths that other tour guides use to embellish their tours, knowing they are not accurate. We also had the chance to connect with local people, which was a lot of fun. This is my third tour with Experiencias Chiapas, and I hope to do another one very soon. Highly recommended!

Lots of communication issues prior to the tour around place and time. Apparently somehow we booked this instead of the town and canyon tour. Rudi was blah and had little knowledge of what I asked about. A lot of standing for long periods in very uncomfortable spots (weeds, trash and bugs in graveyards) for all of us without any context of the town, the spot or why we were going to whatever place we were in and whether the 3 in the group might have want to focus on other things. Lots of steep hills and stairs that the company should warn about prior for those is us physically unable. I would have loved to have toured and learned about the corn and flower farming in the area, as well as the architecture of Chiapas but no luck on either. Good church visits and a bit of art which we didn't need a guide for. I would have loved an authentic family special meal somewhere but no luck there either. A refund would be a nice gesture from the company since they ruined my birthday.

Our trip to the indigenous villages near San Cristobal was a great experience and we learned a lot about the region, indigenous customs, and modern life. Trudy was a great guide and knew how to weave the story of the two villages we visited as he showed us the sites. He has a great depth of knowledge and an authentic passion for what we were witnessing. Of particular interest were the contrasting ways of practicing Christianity and the dramatic differences in the churches in the two villages. We left with a much greater appreciation for the complexity of tradition, history, politics and economics of the region. Thank you Trudy!

There are a lot of really great places and museums to visit in Chiapas, but I really believe that understanding the importance of indigenous culture here should be first on anyone’s list. I took a similar tour in 2019 and it felt like there was so much more that they could have told me but they rushed through it all. We went into a taller in Zinacantan and then quickly the church in Chamula, but not much else. So when I booked a tour this time, I did my research and found Rudy. Rudy does an amazing job of sharing the rich history of Chamula and Zincantan, the people, and their customs. He started in the cemetery of Chamula and talked about the importance of death and significance of burial to the families. At the church, he explained their practices very thoroughly and the process was very emotional. After that, we went up the hill to the gallery of an artist who is doing amazing work to give back to his community and try pox. In Zinacantan, we visited the San Lorenzo church where we learned more about their religious customs and then onto a taller to learn about the process that goes into producing textiles. We left with a better understanding understanding that the customs of the villages were more than just ritual, it was a whole life. We were lucky to have the experience of seeing processions, funeral practices, and two communities displaying deep devotion to both their faith and ancestral spirituality. If you are looking to do a tour, I would highly suggest going with Rudy above anyone else because it’s clear that he puts in a lot of though and care for the communities that you will visit here.

Our tour with Rudy en San Juan de Chamula and Zinacantan was one of the highlights of our five weeks trip in Mexico for sure. He is an incredible guide. He gave us so much information on the communities we visited. He shows so much respect to them and their rituals and beliefs. He knows the history of Chiapas very well. He is very friendly, funny and it was a true pleasure to spend the day with him. We feel very lucky for this special experience and highly recommend it!

I highly recommend this tour of Chamula and Zinacantan! Over the course of 5 hours, we learned so much about Chiapas, Mayan culture and the syncretism between catholicism and Mayan beliefs. This was the perfect way to end our 2 weeks in Chiapas. Rudy was not only extremely knowledgeable, he was also very kind and understanding. Unlike other tours, this did not feel rushed. We had plenty of time to visit and ask questions. Food-wise: We stopped for hot chocolate for breakfast and went to a restaurant with delicious food (and an amazing view over Chamula).

This tour was the highlight of our time in Chiapas. The culture of Chamula shouldn’t be missed during your visit!! Rudy is such a knowledgeable guide and knew the people and the places we visited well. The church alone in Chamula is like nothing you’ve ever seen and I will be thinking about it for a long time to come. 100% recommended.

Rudy our guide is certainly qualified for this! He grew up in the region and has worked in an NGO which provided opportunities to Indigenous people of the area. He has a heart for teaching. He also speaks really good English! We witnessed his attention to detail in his very knowledgeable explanation of the customs, traditions, and current struggles of the wonderful residents of Chamula and Zinacantan. Rudy is a charming man who gave us his best in the tour, and his very informed and thoughtful responses to our many many questions. We certainly feel we have a connection to this interesting area of the world and encourage others to experience this awesome tour with Rudy.

Rudy is as friendly as interesting. He gave us a lot of keys to understand the indigenous culture and more broadly the maya culture. He replied to all of our questions. We spend an amazing time in the beautifull town San Juan de Chamula. I will recommand this experience to anyone who is a bit curious about the traditions of the Chiapas.

Something I feel must be done when visiting San Cristobal, great to learn about and see some old traditions which are still followed in modern day. Tour guide was knowledgeable and good with communication. Overall I feel the tour was worthwhile, albeit perhaps a slight bit overpriced.

I'm not sure what the problem is ? I have tried many times to contact this company and initially was told " Rudy will be in touch ." after many emails to this company , I never got a response. I figured I would just find another company . Sure not a way to run a business.

I am glad I did this Tour with Rudy and did not just go on my own or with a huge travel group. You get so many insights with are in my view necessary to understand the other cultures a bit better and to understand what place you are visiting and what you are looking at. There is no rush like in other travel groups and Rudy is able to answer all kinds of questions to the cultures. Thank you so much Rudy!
