We had a wonderful tour with Shigeki! The Turret coffee was delicious. He took our family through the fish market and prepared fresh sashimi and wasabi!! Would highly recommend.

We had an amazing three-hour food tour of the Tskukiji outer market that kicked off with a stellar cup of coffee. Shigeki started us with a private seafood breakfast in the upstairs of one of the market stalls, and then the real fun began. We toured the market, including the fish vendors who declined to move to the new fish market. Along the way we were treated to snacks and tastes (fried tuna, tamagoyaki, kombu) as our guide gathered items for a second feast. He gave us some history and pointed out vendors we would not likely have noticed ourselves. We then had an enormous "Picnic" outside from the items we had picked up along the way - blow fish, tuna three ways (raw, croquettes, seared), pickled veggies, strawberries, eel, fresh-grated wasabi (the real stuff), snow crab, uni...everything was amazing. We ended with a taiyaki - or is it "tunayaki" since at the fish market the traditional snapper shape is replaced by a tuna? - filled with custard or red bean. The tour was small (6 people) so felt very personalized and lots of time for questions and conversations. I highly recommend this tour!

Highly recommend this tour with Kay. So many excellent food choices and new things we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Cute too that we ate along the way but also gathered food for a picnic at the end. So delicious!

We went as a group of 5 with two teenagers. Josh, our guide, was knowledgeable and passionate about local cuisine with intimate knowledge of the nooks and crannies of the market. We would have staggered aimlessly on our own, and were so glad we had his guidance. He adjusted to our time constraints and covered lots of ground. We did this tour early in our trip and it really helped to set the right tone. Would highly recommend Arigato, which has a particular approach to introducing the delights of Tokyo food. Not to be missed!

This was the Tsukiji morning food tour. Our guide was Michie and she was great - friendly, patient and knowledgable. We sampled many foods (soup, noodle, sushi, etc.) as well as very freshly sliced tuna sushimi. It was delicious. We also tasted desserts and sake. It was an ejoyable experience and likely more authentic if I had gone alone.

I cannot say enough good things about Arigato Japan Food Tours. I liked them so much, I did four separate tours during my 2 week Japan adventure. Each guide was affable and knowledgeable and truly seemed to love what they were doing. The groups were small enough to ask all the questions, but big enough to enjoy the company. I 100% recommend these food tours and look forward to trying more on a future trip to Japan.

We had an incredible time with Josh exploring the outer market at Tsukiji. He took us and our kids ages 9,11,13 on a fun fact filled and delicious exploration of Japanese food, history, and culture. He tailored the experience to our time in Japan, what we had already seen and what we had yet to experience. His knowledge and his relationships with local vendors made the experience extra special. Would absolutely go on another excursion with Arigato again!

We had a great food tour with Yappy! We had delicious food - tuna, sea urchin, eel, and many others. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and showed us many local spots. We would highly recommend for anyone on their first, second, or even third+ trips to Tokyo!

Absolutely one of our favorite experiences while on vacation. Josh Fields was the best guide we had on our trip through Japan. He brought us to off the beaten path vendors, and food experiences we would not have known about as a tourist. His skill with the language, history, and customs were superb. In addition to the market, he took us to historical temples and shrines. Our travel agency canceled our evening plans for the same evening. Josh went above and beyond to help fill our time with options. Upon our return to reality, our coworkers, family, friends have asked “What was your favorite part”? We had many, but our time with Josh was hands down one of the best highlights.

My husband and I loved this tour. Our tour guide, Sandra, was extremely friendly, knowledgable, and accommodating. She taught us not only about the local food, the history and processes behind some of the cuisine, but also tips and tricks like what to say before eating. We explored the market and bought small samples from many different stalls, then sat down to have a picnic! Sandra made sure we tried all kinds of different foods from fresh wasabi to warm Taiyaki. We had a great time and would definitely be interested in more Arigato Japan food tours!

My husband and I took an early morning tour of Tsukiji with Yappy while in Tokyo on our honeymoon. We did not know what to expect, but this tour ended up being one of our favorite parts of our trip! Yappy made the tour fun, informative, and interesting. He shared tons of tidbits about the history of the market, items offered for sale there, and ways to use different ingredients in dishes. Yappy even invited us to the bar where he works in the evenings in Golden Gai, so we were able to continue hanging out and learning from him even beyond the fish market tour. Cannot recommend this tour, and specifically Yappy, enough!! We loved every minute!

The tour was by far the best experience of our entire trip. Yappy and Satoko were fantastic tour guides. They shared really fun stories about Tokyo and Osaka culture. We walked through the fish market and they grabbed different types of seafood that we later tasted while sitting on the building rooftop. They were very considerate of our food allergies (gluten, nuts and peaches). I highly recommend it for people with celiac as you will be taken care of. Last but not least, we had fruit popsicles for desert, which were a fantastic treat for a hot summer day.

Yappy made us happy! He spoke English well and explained food-related Japanese words and customs. My kids (ages 11, 14 and 18) enjoyed his stories, trying oyster and uni, and especially the dessert at the end of the tour! He provided gluten-free soy sauce for me, since I have celiac disease, and I did not have any problems. I will definitely be booking another Arigato Food Tour next time we are in Japan!

Took the breakfast tour with my wife led by Yappy and it was amazing. Yappy was so nice and extremely knowledgeable and took us around to some of the best stalls to get some of the freshest seafood. It was really great to have someone there who knew their way around as it can be very overwhelming. 100% would recommend this tour for anyone going to Tokyo

In our first few days in Japan we booked a tour for Tsukiji Market in Tokyo and I'm so thankful we didn't try to just go it alone! Our guide was Kumie-san and she was excellent at navigating the extremely confusing market streets, stopping to point out details we might have missed, and making sure we didn't get lost or left behind in the crush of the crowd! She was able to bring us to all the most interesting shops with taste-testing, as well as inside the closed-off-to-public areas to get a look at the real old school market areas. Plus she led us to a perfect picnic rooftop spot to relax and try all the various seafood, sweets, and drinks we'd acquired at the end. If we were unguided I think we would have been sucked into the throngs of other tourists and been so turned around we would have had a terrible experience, instead we left feeling like we were professional fish mongers :D

We did two food tours with Arigato on our recent trip - the Tsukiji market tour with Tommy and the Golden Gai tour with Sandra. Both were really enjoyable. We ended up being solo with Tommy for the market tour, and appreciated how personal the tour was, and all the info he shared. The 'picnic' at the end was great and we loved how many foods we got to try. The Golden Gai tour was also excellent - Sandra facilitated good conversation with the group, and the bar we went to was really fun - we stayed even after the tour ended. When they say to come hungry - they really mean it! Both tours had more food than I was expecting and we were VERY full at the end of both. You definitely get your money's worth. I am still dreaming about the ramen we had. Last note - I like that they take photos during the tour and share them after. We've been on many food tours around the world and haven't seen that done before. We got a few really nice pictures that will serve as great memories in the future.

The tour was brilliant. We were lucky that my husband and I were the only ones on the tour so it ended up being private. Sia, our tour guide, was incredibly charming. She'd lived in Canada for a while so spoke excellent English. She was clearly very passionate about food and knew a lot of the history or the market and food. We bought a lot of amazing food which we never would have had the confidence to do without her. I highly recommend this tour!
