We were picked up by Daniel from our hotel. Our full-day tour of Kakum National Park, Elmina Castle, and Fort Cape Coast was enjoyable. As the canopy is relatively high, Kakum, make sure you are not afraid of heights. If you are afraid of heights and cannot complete the whole experience, you can walk one walkway or all seven. The latter was our choice. Remember to hydrate as it was boiling, wear comfortable walking boots/shoes/trainers and ensure you don't have a heavy backpack like I did. The experience of visiting Elmina Castle and Fort Cape Coast was humbling to know what my ancestors endured. Their enslavers carried out heinous atrocities on them that were difficult to comprehend. The reality of what happened there was not being taken in by some people who were too joyful, smiling, laughing, and taking pictures. However, I would recommend the tour, as there is much to learn and appreciate. It was a full, long day, so ensure you're prepared. I would recommend it!

The tour was fantastic and well worth a visit when coming to Ghana. If you are a person that identifies as BIPOC this is a must do excursion. Kwame was very responsive and set us up with such a wonderful tour guide, Mike. Mike was friendly, knowledgeable, and flexible. He was caring and we felt safe at the entire time. Kakum Forest requires some exercise, but it's manageable. Prepare for a long day, but the tour and the restaurant chosen was fantastic. I can't wait to do it again with my family when we return to Ghana.

The tour guides Daniel and P were very accommodating. The journey from our lodged hotel in Accra to cape coast ended up taking 5+ hours going and returning due to the traffic but Daniel had his spirits high during the entire trip so kudos to him for brining energy to the drive , he was also careful to point out historical places as we drove. P was fabulous as a guide at the Kakum park. My mother cannot walk long distances so we needed to work her into the entire experience so P had to encourage and support her the entire time, even when my mother could not continue she arranged for the Kakum staff to please guide her back to Daniel who was back at the vehicle. There wasn’t much of private teaching at the Kakum forest due to the unavailability of their contact there but the other Kakum staff did a good job guiding. Although the traffic made the travel tedious , the overall experience was positive and will certainly book Kwame tours for another Ghana experience in the futures

Kwame and his team (Daniel, Alex, etc.) created an impactful experience. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning more about their roots and/or the true history of slavery.

The hosts were so accessible and reachable, they catered to our needs, and made us feel safe. In my particular case I needed to return to Accra for a flight to Kumasi. The company arranged for another bus and person to bring us back safely. Will definitely book with them again

We never got to walk the canopy. We got 3/4 of the way to top waiting 1 and half hours. Only to be told it would be another hour and a half before we could walk the canopy. It was already past midday. So we had leave in order to experience Elmina and Cape Coast Castles. There was just way too many people booked. Please refund that portion for our group of ten people.

Our tour guide Ibrahim was very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. It was a very powerful experience and would highly recommend for those seeking to better understand the history of slavery and its long-term impact. I was personally taken aback by how intact the castles. We were given full, raw access to the castles and we were accompanied by castle guides who were very knowledgeable and pulled no punches. The canopy walk was also amazing! Scary at first but worth the experience.

Kwam organized an excellent tour. It was a combination of visiting the walkways up in the forest at Kalimantan National Park and making the important visit to learn about the slave trade at Elmina and Cape Coast castles. It is such a worthwhile, albeit sobering, day trip to gain a history of the country. It takes 12 hours but driving in a comfortable minivan with AC , you get to see lots of the countryside and drive through vibrant market areas.

We had an amazing time at the canopy, learning about the forest and the different kinds of tree. The tours of the castles were harrowing but very informative. I learnt loads about the history I didn’t know before. Kwame and the driver were excellent guides. They brought us to a delicious lunch spot and pointed things out on the drive. A long day but we’ll worth it.

We were very happy with Kwame and the whole day trip! Definitely recommended. The small group size (we were 6 guests) was definitely a plus. The minivan provided was comfy, AC and even WiFi was available when we had network, which was great. We felt very safe throughout the trip and Kwame and his team took care of everything (especially organized the entry tickets to sites, supply of bottled water). We even got to briefly visit a little fishermen’s market near Elmina, which was not actually part of the itinerary but definitely a great experience. The cape coast castle are indeed a very rememberable experience which is of course a indescribably sad, but definite must-see in Ghana. Many thanks to Kwame and his team for bringing us to this unforgettable experience 3h west of Accra.

My grandson and I had a wonderful and memorable experience visiting Cape Coast. It was truly unforgettable. Kwame Tours picked us up on time and handled everything. I'm a 75 year old woman with a cane. They made sure that I was safe going up and down steps and even on the canopy bridge! This is an awesome tour company. I had tours pre-booked with 3 different companies , but should have booked ALL the tours with Kwame Tours!

Lovely day with Jerry. Word of warning that it’s a very long day of driving: we were out of Accra from 6am to 730pm and spent most of that time in the car (there’s a lot of traffic in and out of the city). But the tours were well organized and Jerry was a thoughtful and kind guide and driver!

Kwame gave us an awesome full day tour! Kakum canopy walk was beautifu! Tour of Cape Coast Castle with an Elmina Castle drive by was a good mix for somber but important history. Kwame took great care of us. Traffic in and out of Accra was bad.

Cape Coast and Kakum is a MUST DO if you’re in Ghana. This is a great tour to taste a little of the history in this area if you are staying in Accra. The Kakum treetop bridges were a once in a lifetime experience - so beautiful to look down below - and don’t forget to stop by to see Mafrica in her shop after your hike - she makes all of her own jewelry - it’s so good! The slave castles - overwhelming with history that you will need to carry with you and retell. The tour hosts - Jerry was our driver and he is so safe and THE BEST! Love his electric hybrid Honda that literally went the entire 14 hour day without stopping. He is a master and knows these roads well by traveling them several times per week. Mike was our host - oh my - could have spent more time with him. He lives in the Cape Coast area and so knowledgeable, accommodating, and the greatest photographer ever! The. Best. Pics. Ever! Be sure to TIP your excursion guide AND your driver - they work really hard and take care of making sure you have the best tour guides at every site visited. Preparation note: This is a long journey and day - plan for 12-14 hours if you are doing on a weekend - probably less for a weekday. Also, private transportation is indicated - that means there is a driver in a car with 3 spots. We were a couple plus one additional guest that was added to our vehicle - for the “private” people, be sure to set expectations here so that Kwame can accommodate in advance. We are seasoned travelers so understood especially since Kwame rebooked us from the previous week due to my own booking error. Thank you, Kwame.
