Un día inolvidable, y la guía fue buena y honesta. El cañón es majestuoso y muy impresionante. Muchas gracias. (I am American but speak Spanish and the tour was completely in Spanish; I’m not sure how much translation there would or would not have been if I did not.)

We didn’t know the guide only spoke Spanish, so we missed out on the majority of the info. The minibus was small and had no airconditioning. It was a very long drive, so that was not a pleasant experience. The canyon and viewpoints are beautiful, but you might as well book the boat tour by yourself. During the boat trip we stopped several times to look at monkeys, crocodiles, and nature. The canyon is stunning. The boat dropped us off in Chiapa da Corzo, which is very touristy and in our case: extremely hot. So we couldn’t wait to leave again. It was hard to find a place to eat that was not selling burgers. Would recommend visiting the canyon, but if you don’t speak Spanish I don’t recommend this tour.

cannot recommend enough. we went on two tours with this company and both were exceptional. on the first tour (06.01) i became sick and needed to leave early. our driver was incredibly understanding and drove us until we located a colectivo back to SCLC and explained the route. the next tour of the canyon (07.01) was breathtaking and our driver (edgar) was equally impressive. we had a great time, the drivers were always on time and ready to help. this tour company was the cheapest we found in SCLC and incredibly reliable. shout out!

I thought that this was a great day trip. Not too much driving like some of the other tours. Everything was punctual and ran smoothly. I was told when I booked that the lookouts were closed on Tuesday but we did stop at lookouts, which were beautiful. It is very hot on the boat and in Chiapas de Corzo. We saw crocodiles and monkeys. We had time for lunch and shopping before returning to San Cristobal. Be aware that most drivers don’t speak any English so it is useful to have some Spanish or you can ask other people on the bus to confirm times for you.

The Canyon is spectacular and the tour was well-run by Jalapeno tours. The only downside is the place that we stopped for lunch was absolutely terrible with high prices. Jalapeno tours has an office in the center of St.Christobal (open until 9pm) where you can book the tours in person for about half the price.

About 1 hour from San Cristobal. We booked our sightseeing with a tour (private) company called ITZAA. It was 4 of us and were picked up at 9:00 am, stopped for some coffee and arrived to the river. The river tour is not private, boats leave every 15 minutes. 2 hour tour of the river, it’s magical, a must, and not to be missed. After we stopped at a small town called Chiapa de Corzo (which you can also depart from. Looks like the boats leaving from this area are not packed like the ones we took.

Jalapeńo Tours made our experience even MORE memorable. Cańon del Sumidero is a fun trip for those seek adventure and appreciate nature. Venturing through the canon feels like you are going way back in time. We got to see huge iguanas, crocodiles, and monkeys. Savor every moment, because you are bound to miss something you've never seen in person before.

Despite the crocs it is very safe, and a very spectacular trip, well worth it. Take the sunscreen as it gets warm out there, and keep your fingers out of the water. Only dissapointment was they need to start getting on top of the rubbish problem as there are a few spots in there which are tainted by the rubbish.

Don't stress about which travel agency to book your tour. You will almost certainly be on a tour conducted by a tour operator with other folk who have booked through various agencies. And when you get on the boat you will again be mixed with other groups.

We booked a tour to the Canon using TripAdvisors Viatour. Despite we were there 15 minutes in advance and waited for an hour the bus didn't show up and the company it was arranged with didn't pick up the phone. We went to the office of Jalapeño tours and asked if he could book us this tour for the next day because all the busses for that day already left. The staff helped us out really well! We did not have to pay for the tour and they said they were gonna arrange this with the company we originally booked with. They booked us the tour for the next day and within an hour we got a text from the other tour operater apologizing for the mistake. Perfect customer service even though we didn't even book it there in the first place. Thank you! All of this was handled by someone who could speak perfect English so don't worry about a language barrier.

So first off, this does not cater to American tourists so if you need them to speak English to you or you will be unhappy, don't go. If you can get over the fact that a place in Mexico has a service that is designed to cater to locals and just want to enjoy the beautiful views, animal life, and spectacular canyon, then definitely do it. We did the tour from SCDC with Jalapeno tours and it was basically a ride to the canyon and back, and it was definitely worth it. If you speak Spanish, definitely do this. Do take a hat (secured to your head), take water, and wear sunblock.

We got to see a spider monkey super up close, I hope they're not too used to taking fruit from people. I reckon it could be nicer in the rainy season, when the trees are super verdant and there's not so much fog dust from the heat. Jonny Sanchez our driver was a very engaging storyteller, but you'll probably get more out of it if you understand spanish. The van was well air conditioned. The price was a steal to be honest especially including the transport. We went to the miradores and for like 3 extra quid (90 pesos) it is definitely worth it (especially if you are a photographer and it's not a foggy day). Chiapa de corzo was fine but a bit touristy, so half an hour there was enough. The pozol is cheaper in the local market off the main square, and it's really good. The guy who was our boat guide/captain in the canyon was also good but he asked for tips at the end which made me wonder who pays these guys. I guess that's left-wing state capitalism for ya. The people selling snacks & micheladas on the 'floating shop' in the presa was seriously unnecessary and meant everyone else had to wait in the sun. Make sure you go for a wee before the boat trip. Speaking from experience.

I was not expecting the massive cliffs and the interesting designs in the rock walls. I also did not know we would see crocodiles, spider monkeys, and iguana as well as many birds. Our river guide was great. He spoke at a moderate pace, so his Spanish was easy to understand. He pointed out all of the sights and animals and took us as close as possible to view the sights. The heat was terrible, about 100 F, so prepare yourself with a broad brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen. Also, the van tour that took us did not put on AC in the van until the way back, so I was overheated in the van until the return trip. We stopped at Chiapa del Corzo (?) on the way back to have something to eat and the heat was so bad we went to a nice restaurant that at least had fans ( no AC) and had a meal and a lot of cold water and beer.

bed co , bad custumer service. no english at all It was a badly communicated tour. Even if the driver couldn't speak English, he could have tried harder with me in Spanish. Also the office where we booked the tour should have explained better to us about the day!. bed spot for lunch (driver eat for free spot)

Just back from the trip to Sumidero Canyon and the town of Chiapa de Corzo and it was the best 250 pesos (x 2) that we have spent. The canyon is spectacular and all the arrangements happened like clockwork. A reall well-oiled machine. The one hour stop in Chiapa was enough to have a look around and buy a drink or ice cream or whatever. Well done Jalapeño Tours, thank you. And thanks to our lovely driver, Angel.

The Canon is spectacular. It reminded us of the Fjords of Norway in it's grandeur. The tours here are by boat. The pilot brought us up close to see both beached alligators and monkeys swinging in trees. The boats are comfortable and well operated. Our tour arranged through our hotel was $450 pesos per person ($25 US) and was operated by Itzaa Agencia de Viajes. The package included pick up from our hotel, boat tour of the canon and a stop in the town of Chiapa De Corzo. A great value and a fantastic trip!

The canyon is amazing. The tour is in spanish though, so we had a bit of trouble working out where to meet and what time after we were dropped off for lunch. Had somebody on the boat interpret for us, although really, the scenery speaks for itself. Was well organised, picked up on time from our hotel and dropped back at a good time. Bus was in good condition, tour was full, so it was a little squashy on the bus. Would recommend this tour company for others.

Make sure you add the optional mirador stops to this tour. The views are not to be missed. I do not speak much Spanish and the guide was still patient and accommodating to make sure I understand the essentials of the tour.

The scenery is spectacular. We saw monkeys, crocodiles and a variety of birds. The commentary on our boat was all in spanish so our english speaking guide was a godsend. The litter particularly plastic litter emphasises the plight of the planet which is becoming so topical.
