This tour was truly a fantastic balance of the middle ground history of Belfast, an un-biased perspective from both sides of the walls. Arthur was poignant and knowledgeable throughout, adding perspective from his own life experience. I would highly recommend this tour before considering any others offered!

My son and I loved the tour. Arthur, the guide, was really passionate, knowledgeable, humorous, and transparent about even the serious aspects. He is intelligent and balanced. He shared his life experiences growing up in Belfast and other aspects of his life when he lived in Manchester, linking the prejudices he observed in England to those closer to home. He engaged with everyone in the group and kept us interested the entire time. Despite already having some knowledge about the troubles, I believe this tour is excellent for anyone. I highly recommend it!

Arthur was amazing! He made you feel the tragedy and humanity of the people who lived through the Troubles. It’s his lived experience that makes it so much more than reading about it as history. To have any understanding of Belfast it’s a must!

The warmth of tour guide Arthur Magee made up for the unseasonably low temperature, intermittent rain, and wind gusting enough to turn umbrellas inside out! My wife and I were the only participants after another couple cancelled. Rather than speed up the tour to because of low turnout or bad weather and send us on our way, Arthur took extra time with us and showed us things a bit off the normal tour grid. His knowledge is impressive. He is able to relate issues of "the Troubles" to world events, past and present. He pulls no punches, telling the good and the bad of "both" sides of a multi-faceted political/ethnic struggle too often over-simplified in the minds of many as a "religious" problem. We learned of villainous actors on both sides working to erect walls of separation--literally and ideologically--and of heroes on both sides who worked (and are still working) to replace them with bridges that bring people together. I would say that Arthur is one of those heroes, unsung though he may be. (But he does sing and write poetry and song lyrics. Ask him to share!) Almost in passing Arthur told of world renowned people with connections to Belfast, of which there are many. As a musician and a poet, he made creative connections with everything from Shakespeare to Punk Rock. Arthur refuses to participate in the blame game. His is a message of hope and possibility. Our visit to Belfast was enhanced incredibly by this tour. You do NOT want to miss it. Worth every pence and then some.

Arthur was amazing as our tour guide. In spite of rain, cold, and high winds, he made the day interesting and memorable. We learned so much about the "hidden" pieces of Belfast history and were blown away by his extensive knowledge of history, politics, and religion. I'd highly recommend this tour, but wear a good raincoat.

Arthur provides a unique insight and perspective into Belfast life, from life during the troubles and importantly looking ahead to a bright future for the city.

Not your run of the mill walking tour. Arthur raised thought provoking issues interspersed with genuine humour and wit. Didn’t have a dull moment and would definitely recommend to people as an alternative to sitting in a taxi or on a bus if they are able.

Arthur Mcgee seriously knows his stuff. If you have an interest in this (or history in general) then please book this tour. He is constantly talking and he also likes to interact with you group. There is so much material and information it was a lot to digest so the walk was perfect to take it all in. There was moments of laughter and also moments of poignancy that i will remember forever. I can't reccomend this enough!

This was my favourite part of my trip to Belfast. Arthur is a fantastic guide, he has so many stories and a wealth of information on the troubles, the history of Belfast and the music industry that I could listen to him for hours. He also has a great sense of humour and kept us all entertained! The walk itself was at a nice steady pace with lots of stops for stories and photos. We were provided with an earpiece so nobody at the back missed out on information and we stopped at some great locations that I wouldn't have found otherwise. Initially we were trying to decide between a black cab tour or a walking tour and I'm glad we chose this as the group was small so you could ask lots of questions and it didn't feel rushed. Arthur was also very knowledgeable about good places to eat and other things to see in the local area. Highly recommended!!

This is a 'MUST DO' when visiting Belfast. Arthur Magee, our guide, grew up during the troubles and gives an unbiased, informative tour. Some of the stories are harrowing to listen to, as we expected, but there was also plenty of light-hearted humour to keep everyone amused. Arthur managed to incorporate stories of the 80's punk rock music scene and boxing anecdotes to highlight their importance to people during the troubles. My 17 year old son was highly amused by Arthur's impromptu outbursts of singing and dancing in the streets. He had us captivated for just over 3.5 hours, although the time flew by. We could easily have listened to him all day. This was most definitely the highlight of our trip. Thank you Arthur, you are the best!!

We enjoyed a fascinating tour with Arthur. He delivers the facts with great storytelling and a balanced approach to the incredible history. The personal anecdotes he is able to share from the period enrich the experience and help bring the history to life. I couldn’t recommend this tour enough.

Really impressed with this the tour around Belfast! It was very insightful and gave a truly authentic yet objective experience. Arthur's knowledge of the troubles was extensive and beyond compare to anything I'd heard previously. Having lived through it himself, his perspective made it much more real than any book or documentary you could watch. He had a great balance of providing a realistic understanding of such dark situations, explaining it in a way that gave justice to the suffering, whilst also making the tour personable and bringing unique humor in ways he could find. He also played a song he wrote as we walked around the walls- the melody, key and lyrics really enhanced the experience and brought hope to a dark situation. Among all the activities and sights I saw throughout my stay in Northern Ireland, this had the greatest impact on me. I came away wanting to share what I had learnt with friends and family back home. Would strongly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Belfast!

Great trip. Very informative and exactly what I had in mind when I decided to book. Arthur has a wealth of information to share. The walking route was much better than bus/taxi tour in my opinion, but the weather was fine too.

The tour, and the guide himself, was truly amazing. Whatever you've heard or read about Belfast and the Troubles is only ever scratching the surface. Only someone having lived through it truly understands, so I wholeheartedly recommend listening and learning on this tour to anyone visiting Belfast.

You would benefit from doing a small amount of research into the troubles before the tour (nothing extensive just a quick Google) because this tour doesn't start with the basics as you might expect of a more commercialised tour. Don't be put off by that, you are immediately immersed in a very real, very vivid picture of what it was like, told by someone who was there. Arthur is passionate about the subject, humourous and balanced. Prepare for what you thought you knew to be challenged, prepare for emotional stories and prepare to be left thinking about what you've heard on this tour for the remainder of your trip. The world needs more Arthurs. Simply fantastic.

If you're interested in a Troubles tour, you might as well do it with a local Belfastian like Arthur who experienced it first hand. Apart from his vast knowledge, Arthur made us feel very welcome from the first minute. He takes a very friendly approach and a tremendous sense of humour, which you really appreciate when talking about a very sensitive topic. It was also great seeing him interact with friends and people he knows that we ran into, giving you a flavour of how friendly (and funny!) Belfast people can be. We also liked the fact that he linked some of the historic events he talked about with the music scene in Belfast at the time. And you'll learn what the greatest Irish band of all time is (no, it's not U2). He also took the time to give us some tips as to places to see and visit after the tour, and he even walked us to a restaurant nearby where we had amazing local food. Definitely well worth the money and would recommend booking your Belfast tour with Arthur.

A fascinating insight into life during the troubles, from the perspective of Arthur’s lived experience. Both moving and sobering, the tour gave a real insight into life before, during and since the troubles, put into historical context. If you do just one tour during your visit to Belfast, make this the one. The three hours with Arthur just flew by.
