My daughter and I had a brilliant afternoon with Marti, who really took the time to bring the detail of the history of Northern Ireland to life, through a series of engaging stories, interwoven with stops carefully chosen to also showcase the vibrant local visual arts scene. Marti takes an unflinching but also compassionate look at the history of Belfast, with an emphasis on the importance of building bridges across communities and championing creative opportunities for people to tell their own stories of what it has meant to live and grow up here over the past six decades. I felt we learned so much more with Marti than we would have on any other tour of the political murals in these neighbourhoods - highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our walking tour, Marti is a great guide! He explained the history behind the troubles at the start of the walk giving us a good insight into more recent events. We felt that he gave a very balanced view and was keen to stress that the majority of people are keen to work towards a more harmonious way of living. Being on foot (rather than in a cab) to see the murals certainly gave us a better feel of the area. We would definitely recommend this tour.

I really enjoyed this walking tour, highly recommend if you are interested to history and street arts. Marti is very knowledgeable, and great story teller. After the walking tour, he shared some recommendations for me to understand further, thank you Marit :) The best and most interesting one I ever had. I will definitely come back to Belfast and explore more.

Found Marti through trip advisor. His 3 hour walking tour is very personal and unbiased focusing on a theme of peace and reconciliation. Marti is local and honest, passionate about spreading the peaceful community message emerging from new Belfast. Very interesting explanations of murals and events and open to questions from interested visitors. Highly recommended but leave your pre-conceived thoughts at home and be receptive to Marti’s wise words.

We had an educating time on our tour. Despite rain we still made it around the entire city learning about the experiences of the communities through their art. Marti placed such an amazing emphasis on peace throughout the tour, and something that impacted us the most was his remark that it takes three generations to overcome trauma. You can see that the trauma of past generations still exists in Belfast, but through these murals and peace efforts of people like Marti the journey to recovery is just as evident. Don't miss this tour on your trip to Belfast!

The route of the walk was good. The talk however is very one sided and terminology in referring to murals of Palestinian children as PLO offensive & he rushed through the Republican side with many negative comments

My partner and i had the absolute pleasure of joining Marti on his walking tour, seeing incredible street art and learning the politics and reasons behind them. Martis knowledge was so indepth but totally unbiased which really gave us a proper understanding of the history and art. Marti himself was really friendly and you can tell he has a real passion for what he does. I couldn't think of a better way to spend an afternoon in Belfast! Cant wait to come back and join him on one of his other tours. Thanks Marti! 😊

We did the political murals and street art tour. If you're in Belfast, this is a must-do!! The guide, Marti, has such a huge wealth of knowledge and takes you around places in the City Centre, as well as around some of the well known areas in West Belfast, so you cover a lot of ground and see much more the most tours. We learnt so much about the history of Belfast, the Troubles, the peace wall, and what community-based projects now exist which focus on promoting peace within the city. We saw so much street art and Marti explained all the stories behind each mural. A really politically balanced insight into the past, present, and future - thanks so much Marti. We will definitely be back to do the other tours!

Brilliant tour run by the incredibly knowledgeable Marti, who provides a balanced and informative walking tour covering some of the most evocative murals in Belfast and a history of the troubles. The tour lasted 3 hours and covers murals in the city and on both side of the Peace wall in West Belfast. The three hours was an education, without being a lecture. An absolute bargain for the price paid. Can’t recommend enough.

This was a fascinating insight into a quite unique city and its issues, so it was somewhat different from the more generic type of tour that you might find in other cities. The 3-hour walk took us around some of the city's 'hot-spots' while Marti gave detailed information about city history and 'The Troubles', while bringing things up to date with a more global and holistic view. Marti provided a balanced and empathetic view without pulling any punches on contentious issues. The focus on street art was a great feature of the tour. As well as covering the main streets and walls, we also went into some of the more notorious estates where the buses would not go. We saw many examples of 'political' murals and also some quite stunning contemporary street art which, to an extent, has replaced some of the 'political' art with something a bit more positive and life-affirming. Highly recommended. Always better to put boots on the ground than use bus or taxi and we felt comfortable at all times on our way round.

It was a very informative session and a precious opportunity to explore the other side of the city not only the touristy characteristic. The tour guide gave us much information about past and current issues happening around the country and even the movements all over the globe. There is always a story behind each art piece. You don't want to miss this tour when visiting Belfast.

Marty was a wonderful guide! Not only did he draw his explanation of the "Troubles" all the way back to the 1600s, he also demonstrated the impact that they still have on Belfast. As a Belfast native and as someone who lived through the "Troubles," Marty had a wealth of knowledge about the city and was able to inform us about how street art changes overtime. One of the most interesting parts of this tour was hearing about efforts being made in Belfast to mend the destruction that had been caused during the troubles. If you take this tour, be prepared to take in a lot of information and walk quite a bit. I would highly recommend it though!

The tour is a must to get to know all the aspects of Belfast and it's troubles and realities. We came away learning so much and Marti was very engaging, passionate and knowledgeable! The tour was much more authentic than the taxi cab alternative and got to take so many photos. Would fully recommend!
