Lovely food, amazing guide. I love that all the places you visit are family restaurants. Very local, interesting and fun experience. Pace yourself, it's a lot of food! Kelly knows a lot of interesting facts and chinese history, very informative. Definitely a go

We had a great time with our guide Jim. We got to taste a lot of typical local food. It was a very nice walk in the hutongs and we didn't see many tourists there.

The tour with Jim was excellent. I regularly take food tours in cities when I travel for work, and Jim’s knowledgeable approach and kind nature was perfect to introduce our group to foods in the hutong. If you have the opportunity to take this tour with Jim, I recommend!

We did the morning food tour on a very cold morning in Beijing. Jim was our guide and was full of knowledge, humour and made the whole trip a breeze. We had an excellent time exploring hidden gems and trying some of the best breakfast foods we’ve ever had. Thanks Jim and LostPlate! Will definitely recommend to all those visiting Beijing.

Excellent tour of what you need to try for a local breakfast. We ate/tried soooo much food ! I didn't need any lunch and just had a light dinner that day.

The hutong walking food tour was a great way not only to explore the hutongs themselves but to immerse yourself in Chinese culture. We learned about the different kinds of traditional foods all the way from sweet to savory as well as tons of trivia and what daily life is like there from our tour guide, Jim. Jim was an excellent tour guide, he was very informative, courteous, accommodating, and friendly. We would converse about various topics on Chinese life and culture, most specifically how it was in Beijing, and he would always offer help without us even asking. Our tour guide also had good story telling capabilities, as with every word he spoke about the history and way of living in the places we walked to, we would always be so intrigued and interested in whatever he had to say. After our tour, Jim even helped us on how to get around to find other interesting places to tour around, showing that he truly knew the lay of the land and the interesting parts of the entire city. Overall, we truly enjoyed the time we spent on the tour as well as the food we ate, it will truly be a memory that we will treasure.

You absolutely get your money's worth with this tour! Kelly and her guide-in-training Jim did a fantastic job taking us around Beijing, explaining the history of the city and taking us to some really local spots with food that we never would have otherwise tried. We were stuffed to the brim with wonderful local delicacies and we even got some recommendations on where to eat during the rest of our visit, which also did not disappoint! Thank you again Kelly and Jim!

There were six food stops and a 7th coffee stop to wrap everything up. I have lived in Beijing for four years now and still experienced so many new foods and great historical information about the dishes and the Hutong we were walking through. Our guide Kelly was on time, super knowledgable, and helped us with pacing our appetites! I highly recommend this tour. We did it with two teenagers and three adults on a glorious 10 AQI day.

After 2 years of living in Beijing I signed up for this tour to do with 2 of my local friends and we had SUCH a great morning! Our guide, Kelly was incredible - she was friendly & professional and had SO much knowledge of local culture, history AND the food! My local friends learned new things & tried new restaurants/shops they’d never been to. I loved the selection/range of foods that we sampled - I wasn’t a ‘fan’ of all the dishes but I tried everything & discovered some delicious new dishes! The Hutong area that we toured was beautiful & full of history. Kelly spent some extra time with us making our experience above & beyond what we had expected. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

The Lost Plate Hutong Breakfast Tour was awesome! It was great to see so much local food and taste a good number of popular breakfast items. I definitely wouldn't have gone into some of the restaurants unless someone guided me in, so I'm really grateful for getting this opportunity to enjoy some local food with a great guide. I highly recommend this food tour for anyone who is curious about the variety of breakfast foods in Beijing and wants to try more than 10 items. Prepare your stomachs!

We had a great hutong breakfast tour with Evon. She was very knowledgeable about hutong history and the various food stops. She was patient as our group walked and lagged; we had children in our group. All of the food stops were delicious and filling! All were unique. This tour is a MUST if you’re visiting Beijing as a tourist or even if you live here and want to try something new.

Great tour, professionally organized, and well worth it. Even as a resident, some local foods are a little harder to discover and try, so the guided tour, explanations, and background made a huge difference to being able to experience local Chinese cuisine and some of its culture and history. Lost Plate is super professional, from initial contact, to confirmation, and follow-up; they truly want to help out. We had some questions and they provided immediate feedback. Our guide spoke outstanding English and Chinese, and was very knowledgeable of local history and customs. Her insights made visiting the Hutong a richer experience. Food was great, varied, and there was more than enough to eat, beverages are included if/when you want them, and we were stuffed at the end. We considerably expanded our options for future breakfasts out in town. If you don't discover and learn to eat Chinese food, you are missing a major part of the history, culture, and experience of living in / visiting China, as much ofd the food is delicious, exciting, interesting, diverse, and so, so, so inexpensive. We are currently signed on for the Hutong Dinner Tour and are planning the Four Corners of China Restaurant Tour with Lost Plate as well. Highly Recommend, would eat again!

Hey, how else are you going to get to sample Beijing breakfasts, as consumed by ordinary people, anywhere else? Our tour leader was knowledgable and attentive to our needs. The whole experience was an interesting window on the world of Hutong eats as we watched our various breakfast items being prepared in five different locations. Will now seek out my favourites around where I live, now I have tasted them and know the Mandarin names.

My fiance and I went on the breakfast food tour at the end of December. This tour was totally worth the early start and braving the cold weather. There were about 6 stops in total, and each stop was accompanied by a load of background information from our lovely tour guide, Kelly. The food itself was absolutely amazing for the most part. While I'll admit that I didn't find the temple snacks particularly tasty, the history we were given about them was fascinating. We also came home with enough spare food for a late lunch! The location is also great, and it just a short walk away from other tourist stops such as Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Thanks Kelly for a great time!

We are return customers to Lost Plate tours! Walk through a Hutong and witness Beijingers begin their morning. We stopped at many diverse family run breakfast locations. A diverse array of breakfast foods. Found some favorite breakfast foods! One became our favorite for the rest of our time in Beijing. We no longer ate Western Food for breakfast after this experience. The guides are knowledgeable and well rounded people. A joy to get to meet them. It is a leisurely walk. We were there in the winter. Enough stops to stay warm. Off the Beaten Path. Authentic. Culture. Fun. Educational. Good for all ages. Highlight of our trip.

Excellent Breakfast Hutong tour last Dec 2019. Kelly (our guide) was very knowledgeable on both the food and the history aspects. I can recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience a non touristy part of Beijing and for seeing "normal" daily life!
