Captain Bryan gave us an unexpected & delightful private tour. He was very knowledgeable on the history of Mt. Pleasant & Charleston as well as the shrimping industry as he graciously shared his stories. I also loved how he taught us about the different types of shrimp and how to cast a shrimp net. Despite many previous visits to Shem Creek, this was the best time I’ve had there. I know I’ll never look at shrimp the same again. I’d highly recommend this tour, especially if you enjoy history.

I learned so much of the back-story of the Charleston that added so much to what seemed a simple "shrimping" story. I have a much better understanding the area and its struggles from the 1700s. Plus, his story telling skills made the entire tour ejoyable.

Great easy pace walking tour! Guide extremely knowledgeable and provided great information on the tour and even sent a great list of things to do, places to eat and sites to see after the tour.

Captain Brian did a great job of explaining the history of Shem Creek since the colonization period to the present. His tour included visits to prominent places near Shem Creek that were important in this country's history. His explanation of the rise and decline of the shrimping industry in the area was very easy to follow and informative. Thank you Captain Brian for the great tour!

Captain Bryan is a great guide! He’s very knowledgeable about the history of Charleston and especially Mt. Pleasant. We not only learned about the shrimping industry but also about Charleston during the Civil War as well as pirates. This is a very interesting tour.

We had a very enlightening experience with Captain Bryan! Me and my family felt like we understood every that led up to the shrimping industry thanks to his concise and info-loaded explanations. Even though we’ve been almost everywhere in Charleston, this tour felt like a fresh experience (just like the shrimp). We also got to have conversations about the importance of shrimp conservation and the challenges facing the local shrimping community. I would suggest this tour even for those not too fond of seafood, as this feels like a very under appreciated industry. This is also great for those with limited time in Charleston, since Captain Bryan gives a lot of general history about the area.

We took this tour a month ago but I’m still thinking about it. Truly a unique blend of history and local culture. We would have never known anything about shrimping or the local fisheries. Very local and very fun. This guide truly loves his city and his job.

Although not advertised as such, this is really a two-for-one tour: not only do you get a close-up look at the shrimp industry, you also learn the fascinating connections between Charleston's history and the history of this industry. Captain Brian delivers it all!

Fun & Highly informational tour! If in the area, definitely book it early in your trip. Family of 6 -- we learned so many interesting facts about shrimping and the Shem Creek area. Bryan was extremely friendly, knowledgeable & prepared (even brought water for us in July!) I loved that the kids (ages 17 14 13 and 11) felt comfortable asking Bryan questions and he had excellent answers. The biggest highlights were throwing the shrimp net & seeing the Outer Banks filming locations :-)

This is a great way to spend some time in a beautiful environment. The Captain is very personable, and has a huge fund of information which he shares in an engaging way. One learns history from colonial times through to the modern shrimp industry. All at a very reasonable cost.

Great tour, excellent tour guide. Walk, listen and learn. This tour had quite a bit of walking, a little more then typical walking tours. Mostly flat land. Our tour guide had the most amazing VEINS!!!!! The nurse in me had a hard time not focusing on them the whole tour.

Bryan is so knowledgeable about history (war, trade, the people, etc) and the surrounding area - we were so impressed!! We absolutely loved our tour. It was the perfect mix of learning about history, the beautiful homes, the area, the shrimp industry, and great local restaurants. Bryan is also so fun and upbeat. His tour is a must do!!! It was nice to also walk through the day and be moving. Thank you Bryan!!

Outstanding tour of some less known local historic sites and great stories about the area’s economic past and present. And we learned a lot about buying seafood and got great tips on other local spots!

Don't be fooled by the tour title, you will love this tour! Bryan is very knowledgable (and likable) and does a great job of informing you of the general history of the area and how that leads into the shrimping (and other ) local industries. My wife was skeptical when I told of this one, but it ended up being her favorite tour.

Captain Bryan was the most knowledgeable person ever! He made the historical tour interesting even for our daughter. I would definitely recommend this tour to others. I don’t like walking tours very much but this one was not boring or tiring at all.
