We did two different tours with them during our week in Cartagena- the time we spent with one of their guides were the best and most interesting parts of our trip.

This tour was such an experience from start to finish, from learning about the location of the old and new market, to the daily effort put into ensuring the freshest produce, seafood, and meat selections. All of the unique foods to try along with the smells and sights will ensure a visit that won't be forgotten. María was such an amazing guide with so much knowledge we not only learned local traditions but also how the foods were prepared differently in various other regions of Colombia. I highly recommend any of the tours if you want to truly dive into what makes Colombia so special.

This is one of the most unique tours I've ever done--so much so that I did it twice, once in 2019 when I was last in Cartagena and again this year with my entire family. What I love about this tour is how it feels like it captures the local experience--it's outside of the walled city, and with Discover Cartagena to guide us and introduce us to the local vendors, it couldn't have been a better way to venture outside of the main tourist area. The tour was executed flawlessly, from the short bus ride to the various stops, to ensuring that all members of the tour were accounted for. There's no way I could have done something like this on my own, so grateful to our amazing tour guide for showing us a different side of Cartagena.

This was a fantastic tour with Discover. I went with my family of 9, ages 12-74 and there was something in it for everyone. It was truly an experience. We tried lots of delicious food, met a local artist legend, and learned some champeta moves! Above all, this tour got us outside the walled city and tourist area into the local zone. Highly recommend, just know that it gets very hot and smelly in the market!

Tne tour of the old market with Maria provided us an amazing view of the gritty underbelly of Cartagena that only locals ever experience. We saw and sampled fruits, vegetables, fish, and meats, made even more special by meeting and talking with the vendors, all good friends of Maria. Add a custom made poster from a renowned artist and dancing lessons that finished with a cold beer that topped off the bustling cacophony of sights, smells, and tastes. Maria gave us an unforgettable experience that we'll remember always.

Emotional distress and threats from this business. After trying to steal from us the owner has made multiple attempts to cause further harm to me. Her obsession with not allowing any truthful reviews that are negative has led to us never wanting to go near Cartagena again. Glad we have free speech laws here.

absolutely a fantastic tour. I ended up with 2 host because the other people they had booked was a no show. Both gentlemen were great, being a solo female, they were constantly watching out for me, and making sure I was taking care of. They taught me so much about the history, dance, drink, food...Would definitely recommend for others.

Jesus David and his assistant were amazing! Very knowledgeable and passionate! Highly recommend! You really see parts of the market that you wouldn't normally. You feel safe and meet amazing people!

Food poisoning and trip ruined. We should have been more careful considering the heat and lack of ventilation but we definitely did not expect To spend our vacation this way. I had a great time! Would recommend this tour to anyone that wants to experience an authentic Cartagena market where locals go shop for essentials! Our guide Jesus was lovely and helped us get the most of the experience as possible by trying locals fruits, introducing us to different generations of Colombian music and bringing us to Anthony Bourdain’s favourite restaurant in Cartagena. Keep in mind, from the moment you enter to the moment you leave there is lots of food for sale, including raw fish. I found that once the tour was over the smell of it lingered quite heavily on me and in my clothes (understandably) so if you do the tour I would suggest making time to go back to your accommodations to change and shower or else you will smell like fish the rest of the day. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would suggest this to anyone that wants to explore local culture a bit beyond the beaten path!

Absolutely an amazing tour. There was suppose to be another group of five that never showed up. My guide was Jesus he spoke English, and Brian was with us another guide... So impressed at all I seen. I got to try new fruits, meet some locals, have a sign made for me, dance lessons by Brian, learned so much history about the music, food and dance, we shared drink, and and ate in restaurant made famous by Anthony Bourdain. Daniella was our guide and she was wonderful. She is well versed in the market and its history. Not to mention, she navigates the market like a pro! Many times I thought we were in a never ending cycle of stalls but she knew exactly where we were. This tour's main focus is the food but the market itself is a sampling of so much more the area has to offer from music and culture. Highly recommend. We sampled some native fruits as well as had a meal at Cecilia's.

Jesus was a wonderful guide who took us through the market and we got to sample delicious foods and experience local culture. It was a little difficult sometime to navigate with a baby, but overall we felt fairly safe.

The tour team was excellent! Very accessible and helpful in finding an excursion for us to do. They checked in with us multiple times to make sure we were okay and everything went as planned. Even if they don't offer what you're looking for - ASK! You won't find a better team to help!

One of the best tours I have had in any country. If you would like to get away from the usual tourist filled attractions and instead see how the locals actually live, then this is the tour to take. The best way to discover the people of Cartagena is to go where the locals shop for food and miander through the Barzuto Market. We started in the San Diego area and then onto a local bus to the Market. Liz my tour guide did a fantastic job navigating through it as we stopped in different areas. First stop the poster artist who created a customized poster for me, then off to the fruit vendors, we continued through the thick of the market meat, fish, vegetables, spices... until we reached the restaurant where Alain Bourdain had eaten to cool off for a beer and pick up some food. Mind you it was well into the 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Liz enthusiasm and knowledge of history made this tour a real treat! I would highly recommend it. The tour finished at the home of a local for a taste of the bought tropical fruits and lunch.

What a fantastic way to experience life in Cartagena. We had such a great time getting behind the scenes of the basurero market and being welcomed into someone’s home to see how life really is. There is no better way to understand this city and the people but through food and this tour.
