Ray was an absolutely wonderful guide! He was friendly and knowledgable, taking the time to explain clearly along the way about historical facts. We can’t recommend this tour enough! Be forewarned that some hills can be steep but Ray made sure everyone was okay along the way, checking in with us regularly. The tour has amazing views and you get to have an intimate perspective of a quiet temple where you get a lot of information that you wouldn’t have ever known simply passing through. Frankly, the bamboo forest was great but so many parts of the tour were highlights!

An amazing experience with Ray sharing his passion and knowledge through the Arashiyama surroundings. From Bamboo forest, to temples, shrines, rice fields and the gorgeous streets, the tour was amazing, very informative and most of all fun and a very easy ride on quality bikes, with helmets, water and some snacks all part of the adventure.

I had a great time. We were shown various Arashiyama areas, even spots where you won’t find a lot of tourists. Ray was extremely knowledgeable, kind and funny. I definitely recommend

Great experience. The tour guide knows the area very well and does a great job of explaining the Japanese religions and cultures. You will do some touristy places which is great to check off your list but you will also hit some hidden gems which really brought the experience to another level. The guide also does a great job of explaining the places you stop at so you can get a good understanding of the history and importance.

We had an amazing time with Peter on the early bird Arashiyama bike trip. It was one of our favorite mornings in Japan and I would recommend this tour to anyone. We were able to get away from the crowds, enjoy the beautiful backstreets and visit places I would never have found without our guide. We upgraded to e bikes which made the trip especially enjoyable for us 65+ year olds.

Got a fair amount of grief from 5 teenagers for booking an early bird tour but afterwards all of them thanked me! The BEST way to see Arashiyama, including neighborhoods we’d never otherwise see on foot or without a guide. Peter was fantastic - low key, friendly, and just the right amount of info at each stop. Then he ended up influencing the rest of our day with recommendations we loved - both a lunch and dinner spot for our party of nine and a mini pig cafe. Highly recommend!

This half day morning bike tour of the Bamboo Forrest and Arashiyama was a highlight of our trip to Japan. Peter was an excellent guide and we learned a lot of cultural and historical facts from him. The ride was flat and easy for all ages - including our 11 and 12 year olds. We went to several beautiful locations during the tour. Peter even recommended our lunch spot, Pizzaria Lugara, which was delicious! Don’t hesitate, just do this tour!

Fantastic tour! My husband and I went with our two girls, 11 and 12, and they loved it and were able to bike the entire way without any problem. The route is flat Peter was an excellent guide - we learned a lot of cultural facts - and he took lots of photos for everyone. It’s a beautiful and fun way to see this lovely part of Japan. Also, go to Pizzaria Lugara if you want a break from Japanese food. It was delicious!

This was one of our highlights of our trip around Japan. Cycling around Arashiyama, stopping and experiencing Cherry Blossom without crowds, riding through the rice fields was simply unique. Enjoyed the conversations, picturesque gardens, temples, shrines and natures. For myself and my 14year daughter that was a simply unforgettable experience which we will treasure. Thanks Ray.

Half of the time we walked around including walking Bamboo road. Our guide (Peter san) explained about the history, background of the places (Tenryuji temple, Seiryoji temple and Togetsukyo bridge) we visited and it is very instructive. We can see very beautiful cherry blossoms and rural scenary and also experienced transcribing. Of course the bike itself is comfortable.

We loved our bike tour with Peter. He kept us informed about the unpredictable weather conditions. We really enjoyed the morning tour despite some rain. The bikes were nice and easy to ride. We covered a lot of ground and saw parts of Kyoto that we wouldn't have seen in our own, including a peaceful uncrowded temple with beautiful surroundings and farms that provide the rice for local sake. As an added bonus, Peter took a ton of pictures and sent them to us later that day. I would definitely recommend the tour!

One of the best mornings of our trip! Our guide Ray was fantastic! His style was warm, chill, considerate and also so educational all at the same time. Made for a perfect guide. We loved it and even thought about doing another one in another area but just couldn’t make it work with our timing. Highly recommend! Book in advance you won’t regret :)

This tour is the perfect way to see Arashiyama. First and foremost, Ray is a superb guide. An expat who married a Japanese woman and knows the area perfectly, he lives just blocks from the Bamboo forest. Ray is a perfect balance of energetic yet mellow. He's super attuned to nature, which is a refreshing balance to the "all shrines" experience you sometimes feel you have on tours in Japan. The 8 am start time is ideal - you beat the crowds to the big sights, and have time afterward to ride through quiet neighborhoods, rice paddies and other local sites before wrapping up back in town. We saw a remarkable amount and part of Kyoto and still were back in Gion before 1 pm. Definitely take this tour!

Educational and fun bike ride. Peter talked about the history of the sites we visited. Peter also took pictures along the tour of us so we would have memories to cherish. Peter was even able to get a picture in the bamboo forest without anyone in the frame. The calligraphy stop was an added cool surprise. The kids had a great time. We got a link to the pictures shortly after the bike ride.
