Though a fan of watches I walked into Maurice de Mauriac without knowing much of anything about the company, it having slipped my radar until arriving in Zurich. But I promptly fell in love--with the brothers Leo and Massimo who are brilliant, fun and embody watchmaking (precision; symbolism; aesthetics; references; family) in the best sense; with the design ethos and language; with the watches as physical objects; with the process of choosing case materials; dial colors; complications; straps--customizing the watch to my own specs. I bought two pieces as I couldn't choose between them, and as gifts Massimo and Leo gave me a discount on the two, a lesson in watchmaking with their horologist Sean who taught me how to disassemble and assemble a movement; a key chain and straps. Between getting to know Leo and Massimo, getting to spec my own watches and learning how to work with them, this was easily the most meaningful experience of my life with watches. And I haven't taken my L2 off since I bought it. It's brilliant. Thank you Massimo, Leo, Sean and Totor the watch Dog for an amazing experience I will always remember, and for the beautiful watches.

Extraordinary experience to learn first hand how a Swiss watch is made. I had not appreciated the complexity and craftsmanship in my watch until this moment.

Best place to buy a perfect watch with great design. The fist one I bought in 2003, the secont one in 2004, the 3. one in 2008, the other 2 sometime ago ... the last one just now. I love them all. Timeless great design. I visit the store regularly to check new watches, to drink an expresso, chatting about watches ... Once I had a problem with one watch. I gave it to to Daniel Dreyfuss, the founder, he gave me an expresso, after 15 minutes the watch repaired and he only asked "another coffee?". No costs for maintenaince after having the watch abut 8 years. I love this brand.

The minute you walk in to the store, you will be greeted by the co-owner in our case by Massimo! Offered drinks, made us feel home like comfortable right away! Then, we have Til showing us his intricate craft of watch workshop, answering all our questions, explaining it in a way for us to understand, then diving in for a return demonstration! We were mesmerized by the family like treatment while at the same time falling in love with the watch! The story behind it, sharing the gallery of their 25th year anniversary which we just missed few days before we arrived .Massimo shared the video of the party in the streets, then the newspaper with a tote bag were enough for us to experience it all! Our trip in Zurich will not be completed without the watch making with Massimo! It is very difficult to write this review as I don’t have the words to articulate how wonderful a time we had… (Ha Ha see the play on time and this being a review for a watch manufacture class?). A five-star rating does not do this experience justice, the shop is lovely and eclectic in a very homey comfortable way, like when you go over to a friend’s house… comfortable, welcoming, unpretentious but classy, sophisticated, energetic… you must go to see and feel it. The Dreifuss family, Daniel, Leonard, Massimo are probably the coolest trio on the planet, and we could not have spent enough time hanging out with them. If you are in Zurich this is an absolute must do! Yes, I did buy a watch… not only a very cool watch that looks amazing but an awesome story to go with it and if I dare say some new friends, whom we are very fond of!

They did a great repair job on a classic Omega Seamaster, replacing original parts in the service and doing it quickly (2 weeks). Friendly people and good customer service.

I bought my watch more than 4 years ago and brought it in for servicing. This was done of course very quickly and professionally. But coming to Maurice Mauriac is more than about watches. He introduced me and my wife to the Reitberg Museaum - even driving us there personally - and gave us great trips for our Europe trip. The warmth and family atmosphere is unique and a must visit for any watch enthusiast.

I visited the workshop of Maurice de Mauriac on Saturday the 19th of October to collect the watch I had purchased, having first met Mr Leonard Dreifuss at Le Mans earlier this year. I was met by Daniel Dreifuss and Leonard who both were fantastic and extremely hospitable. Daniel is very artistic in his outlook on life, is interesting to speak with, and is a huge fan of motorsport to boot. The store is filled with lovely models and photos, all with excellent stories covering the history of the brand and its close relation to motorsport via Rene Dreyfus and Rick Pearson. While we were there my girlfriend customised her own timepiece with the help and patience of Leonard and we decided to make the order there and then for delivery to Scotland. Please take the time to visit Daniel's wife, Claudia Ginocchio and her beautiful art studio next door.

My family had a wonderful, fun, laughter-filled visit to Daniel's [Maurice's] watch workshop, where we each got to struggle with those tiny screws and wheels and all oddly shaped other pieces, as we first took apart and then put back together the fascinating, intricate works of a Swiss watch. Don't miss it if you like to look behind the dial. He's a sweetheart, bubbling with enthusiasm.

You don't have to be a watch lover to enjoy this "off the beaten track" activity. For a behind the scenes look at watch making in Switzerland, including a chance to get your hands deep into the internal mechanism of a watch, do this activity. You also get a chance to socialise with the local business owner and watch maker, who both generously share their local knowledge. This activity was definitely worth it and one of the highlights of my travels in Switzerland.

This week I visited Daniel at his atelier with short notice looking for a new NATO strap for my old watch. Being a watch passionate, before coming to Daniel I visited certain classical and renowned watchmakers on Banhoffstrasse and I must say that Daniel's watches are not inferior in quality, are dazzlingly beautiful, nonetheless, Daniel is humble and very friendly, fun to listen to, helpful, a real talented self-made man. Went back to see Daniel's new collection and get a new strap for the skeleton watch I had purchased a few years ago. Always a highlight of my Zurich trips! This time, I took my six-year old son so that he could meet an actual watchmaker. Daniel was super nice and made the visit memorable by showing him around.
