The tour with Penny, our guide, was amazing! She showed up a few minutes' early at our designated meeting spot near our hotel and took us on a 4-hour+ walking & taxi tour of the Yu Gardens and the Bund area. We spent a lot more time at the Yu Gardens, exploring everything that it had to offer including sampling the delirious Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings). Penny was a walking encyclopedia, giving us facts about China, the Gardens and Chinese culture in general. She was super patient, allowing us to meander at our own pace, and explaining everything around wherever we were. This tour a a definite "must" if you have a limited time in Shanghai and want to see specific things. It is a custom-designed tour, so read up a bit about Shanghai so that you can decide where you want Penny to take you. If we had more time, we would have hired her again to see the other parts of Shanghai we missed. 5 stars for thsi one!

We had an excellent tour with Penny from Shanghai Melody. Penny was very knowledgeable about the history of Shanghai and was able to provide a good overview within the few hours of our tour. We were able to get a better perspective of Shanghai and indirectly the Chinese culture through snippets shared by Penny. We will definitely recommend this tour as an excellent introduction to Shanghai.

Excellent tour made special by the historical information supplied by our tour guide Penny. We enjoyed a boat trip seeing the spectacular light display illuminate the old and new sights of Shanghai and walked around Yu Gardens trying some of the local cuisine while learning of the history of the city. We chose to have our tour start at 18.30 but would recommend an earlier start to enjoy some of the sights in daylight. Overall a very good experience.

I had a 9 hour layover in Shanghai, and decided to do a day trip to see as much of the city as I could. My guide Sophie Lee was great! I asked to see what the locals do on a Sunday. Sophie took me to various parks where the locals dance, Tai Chi, gather for gossip, and even match making. Of course I got to see the Shanghai Tower and checked out the view from the second tallest building in the world. I had a great time and look forward to visiting Shanghai again, but for more than just a day.

From the offset Kelly was excellent in communication. She was very patient with my questions and adaptable to what I needed to arrange. On the day Penny was the guide and she was amazing. She was professional, knew the local area and was also adaptable. The company went the extra mile and I highly recommend them. I will be using them again.

Had a great time and my husband was excited to get a chance to make soup dumplings with an expert at one of our stops. Guides were fun and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

We had very long stopover in Shanghai and decided to make the best of it and leave the airport for some sightseeing. Conveniently you can get nowadays a 24 h visa on arrival without any fees. We contacted Shanghai Melody a couple of days in advance. Kelly was very responsive and arranged a pick up at the Maglev station Longyang Road. Penny was taking good care of us.

The company was very flexible as I reserved an afternoon tour same day (a.m). Penny arrived promptly to my door then confirmed my interests to map intineary and then we were on our way. I was able to tour Peace Hotel, The Bund, Jewish Museum/neighborhood, and Yu Gardens. She treated me to my first jianbing (pancake) and it was the best thing I ever tasted. Unforunately Confucius Temple was closed but Yu Garden was a great contigency plan. Penny is very versed in the history of China and provided in depth information on each site visited, non Google-able info. Highly intelligent and well traveled yet non-pretentious. She felt more like a friend and even helped procure my first silk scarf and joined me for dinner. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who needs to see Shanghai in a condensed amount of time with professional and pleasant tour guides. Penny is awesome!

My friend and I spent a few days in Shanghai. We went on numerous tours that we booked with Melody Tour. All the tours were excellent and all tour guides spoke English. Our tour guide on this particular tour was Sophie Lee, she was very friendly, spoke excellent English, had amazing knowledge or the history of China as well as local history and was very accommodating. We went to Shanghai Tower (second tallest in the world), on the Meglev train which goes at 300km/hr and to Yu Garden in old Shanghai. I would highly recommend this company and tour to any travelers.

My group and I decided to add Shanghai to our itinerary for China last minute and I’m so happy we added it. We decided to do a short tour since we were only going to be in Shanghai for 2 days. I came into Shanghai a day early on a business trip to go sightseeing. And I am beyond grateful to have had Christina as my guide for the morning!! I had the BEST time and I can't believe how much she was able to pack into 4 hours. We went to the Shanghai Tower Observation Deck first, where I was able to see the massive landscape of the city. She then took me to the Old City to get immersed in traditional Chinese architecture and culture. From there we visited the Jade Buddha Temple, where was able to capture photos of all the beautiful buildings and statues. Lastly, she took me to a local dumpling and tea shop. Our driver, Chen, was very kind as well. Christina took great care to make sure I got to see so many things, and her English is stellar. She explained a lot about the city and the culture, that I would have missed out on trying to sightsee on my own. I would recommend this tour to anyone traveling to Shanghai!

With limited time for a tour, we booked a four hour private tour with a private car. We were met promptly in our hotel lobby by Fei Fei, our guide for the morning. We had listed a few specific ideas for places to visit but as is often the case, it was the places that we did not choose but were taken to by Fei Fei that were the most enlightening. We stumbled on a produce market from the Hunnan region and tasted apples, oranges, wickedly strong rice wine and Hunnan chilli sauce. Fantastic. Fei Fei also told us what it was like to live in Shanghai - not just the sort of information that can be gained from a guide book. Highly recommended.

Judy was our guide; she was on time with her smile at the hotel with the car driver. Communication was excellent. We particularly appreciated her knowledge of the history and socio-culturtal aspects of China and Shanghai. We went to a off-tourist track temple, then to the French concession and then to a very interesting park. The tour not only allowed to discover fabulous places, but to put them in the history of China and of Shanghai in particular. Everybody should engage in such a profound and fruitful experience in order to better understand the past, the present and foresee the future of China in the world ....
