This was an awesome way to experience Lake Yellowstone and the surrounding gorgeous vistas. Josh’s knowledge of the area, skill in giving us a quick lesson in kayaking technique and warm personality made our experience a memorable one.

This is a must do in Yellowstone. We paddled out to West Thumb Geyser Basin. We also saw Arch Geyser erupt from the lake, which was amazing. Lunch and snacks were provided, and the guide was very knowledgeable. The weather was beautiful out (September 2023), and we saw several elk.

Wow what an incredible excursion! We kayaked six miles and saw two bald eagles on the way along with a geyser that rarely erupts! Joshua was our tour guide and extremely knowledgeable about the area and provided snacks throughout the day! Would definitely recommend to anyone for great views of the lake and a wonderfully unique experience!

We arrived early for our 8 am tour and Josh was already setting up for our tour - hot coffee and aussie bites to keep us occupied and warm. It was a nice grouping for our family. Josh gave us good information on our tour and how to paddle effectively. Weather was a little undecided but we still saw elk and bald eagles. We covered 5 miles in total and our family was thrilled with our experience. Lunch was well-received on our return. Josh was so helpful, communicative and friendly.

My wife and I took the kayak trip on Monday September 18th. It was a little chilly in the AM but warmed up to be a beautiful day. The scenery was gorgeous, we had the lake to ourselves. The group we were with was great. Our guide Josh did a wonderful job. He was extremely knowledgeable of the Yellowstone Lake and Park as a whole. He was very personable and made the trip very enjoyable. We ended our 4 hour trip with a bag lunch on the beach that couldn’t have been nicer. I would highly recommend this trip.

In the land of geysers it was a treat to see Arch Geyser in action given its relative uniqueness. Seeing that made the paddle that much more special. As kayakers it was also a pleasure to simply do a paddle on Yellowstone Lake; something few visitors to Yellowstone do. Our guide, Josh, was excellent. His attention to our safety, his enthusiastic sharing of his knowledge of the lake & YNP itself added nice depth to our experience. He’s also a great guy to paddle with. Our visit to Yellowstone would have not been as rich as it was had we not kayaked on Yellowstone Lake with Josh. We can recommend YHG & Josh in particular to anybody visiting Yellowstone National Park.

So many great things happened on our kayaking trip. Our guide was knowledgeable about the Lake, history (both ancient and more recent like the devastating fire in '88), birds, geology and folklore. We were concerned we wouldn't be able to keep up with the group, but it was not a problem. Hours flew by!

I did the 8 AM kayak tour last week. I'm 68 and none of the concerns I had about going were worth worrying about. The temperature had gotten up to about freezing by the time we left -- but I never got cold. I only had 1 pair of shoes with me (hiking shoes), and they never got wet. I had never gone 6 miles in a kayak and never kayaked at this altitude. I didn't get winded or even break a sweat. The views were stunning and totally unique from the water. Josh was extremely knowledgeable. I tried to stay within earshot of him most of the time. Excellent trip. I would recommend getting there an hour or more early and going to the West Thumb geyser basin (<10 minutes away) for sunrise and then going back afterward. It looks totally different in the morning fog, from the kayak, and with the noon sun.

Yellowstone Hiking Guides is Awesome. Josh was the best guide. The equipment is excellent; the route was perfect -- along geothermal features; and the lunch was very generous portions. If you are considering kayaking at Yellowstone-- hesitate no longer. Book it. You will not be disappointed.

We couldn't have asked for better weather or a better guide. Joshua was so knowledgeable about Yellowstone Lake, it's history and wildlife. We capped our trip off with a delicious lunch lakeside. One of our party forgot his phone in his life jacket and Joshua was kind enough to mail it to him. I would highly recommend this top-notch company for any of your excursions while visiting Yellowstone.

Our guide was encouraging and patient. He knew the geography of the landscape we were viewing well. The group had tandem kayakers and couples who were paddling solo. The snack at the first break was delicious trail mix with cashews and M&M’s included. He explained the miracle of Taq polymerase isolated from the thermophile at Yellowstone. Note: I’m hoping my wonderful hats glove and binoculars I left on a pole at the picnic tables was recovered. I’m glad to pay for postage to have them mailed back to me in Chelsea Ala..

We had an absolutely wonderful paddle on Lake Yellowstone! Our guide, Josh, was professional, personable and just plain fun. Our group was small, just one other couple besides ourselves, and it was peaceful, comfortable and relaxed. Couldn’t have had a better time and we highly recommend Yellowstone Hiking Guides next time you are in the area!

Josh arrived on time, was high energy, respectful and fun throughout the tour. He was very knowledgeable about the history, biology and places to see and things to do in Yellowstone. I would book with his company again. Well worth the investment.

It was a fantastic morning on the lake. Josh, our guide pointed out many interesting points and was very engaging. It was so calming to kayak in the lake. I would highly, highly recommend this experience.

I unfortunately had to cancel my reservation for this excursion due to Covid, but I’m writing a review to share my experience communicating with the organizers. I messaged them to cancel ahead of time through TripAdvisor but wasn’t receiving a response so I emailed instead. They replied and cited their 48 hour no refunds cancelation policy. I understand the policy but would have appreciated some leniency given the situation. I emailed again to ask about rescheduling (hoping another person in my party could take my place so we wouldn’t lose the $250) but they never responded. It’s too bad that we weren’t able to communicate better to resolve this. Since there are so many other similar tours to chose from, I would recommend considering another one with better communication.

We did the 4 hour morning Kajak tour and would do it again! Josh, our tour guide, was amazing! He is a fun and kind outdoor guy who spreads an amazing atmosphere. He gave a short fun introduction into kayaking and safety and off we went. He guided us along the shore to the Geyser on the calm and beautiful lake! Josh gave fundamental information about the scenic spots and their history while were passing by. The lake view was amazing and my fiancé and I had a wonderful time kayaking. We decided to take a Kajak together, but you can also choose to have a Kajak on your own, what ever you prefer. Josh makes sure you feel comfortable and you are safe and takes care of your well being. He brought a snack along, after we went back to shore, we all got a brown bag, something to drink and enjoyed our lunch talking with the group. You are free to grab your lunch to go, too! Very uncomplicated and wonderful! Thank you Josh!

A bit expensive, considering the activity, but very cool and the guide was fantastic, wishing to share his knowledge with all of us.
