Furkey was an excellent guide who took huge pride in his community despite the obvious poverty the hardworking industrious activity was amazing to see. All the inhabitants seemed welcoming and gracious especially the children who were happy to just say Hi and what was so endearing was the fact they didn’t pester us at all.

We had a whistle stop tour to Mumbai and wanted to make the very most of our 3 days so we got in touch with Be the local tours as one of our friends recommended them. From the very first contact Tauseef and his team looked after us and tailor made our tours to make sure we got to see everything we wanted. Nothing was too much trouble and communication was excellent throughout. Tauseef and our driver Firoz went to great efforts to make sure we were safe and comfortable throughout 3 long days for them. Really genuine people with a great ethos and I would not hesitate to book with them again.

Kashif our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. A must see: an eye opener. The productivity, industry, population, multi faith harmony. Houses community from India wide: Muslim Hindu Christians- Tamil Rajasthan Gujerat etc. Environmental friendly recycling industry. The working and living conditions are challenging from a developed world perspective. Mumbai has one of the largest slums in Asia. Education, women empowerment, improvement of health & welfare will bring India to the developed world. So much good has been accomplished by government and other endeavours but so much more to do. Mumbai has the super rich and super poor. Perhaps a favourable taxation for super rich to help the super poor. Not recommended for children.

Fascinating tour of Dharavi with our guide Waris. We weren’t sure what to expect of our “Mumbai Slum tour”, which was recommended by the local rep when we landed in Mumbai. It did not disappoint but it is wrong to call it a slum. It is more of a village/community. So much activity within Dharavi - homes, businesses ( pottery, recycling, leather, sewing, embroidery, manufacturing), food etc. All within very small spaces. It was very busy and the streets narrow but well worth a visit. Dont take a camera as people not keen to be photographed. Waris, our guide, was brilliant.

The tour of Dharavi was amazing. Our tour guide Razak helped us the understand the life of the people living there. It opened my eyes to their lives to see why they lived as a community and worked very hard to keep it that way and to earn money to give them selves a better life. Razak took us to the old part of the town, the business area and the market area. We were just going to leave and my husband decided to have his hair cut. It was no problem for Razak who took us back into the slum and waited. He has lived there all his life so very knowledgable and proud of his community. Everyone was very friendly and welcomed us. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you Razak for an amazing tour. Go to the leather shop and get a beautiful handbag with the Dharavi stamp - a wonderful keepsake.

I had an amazing experience touring Dharavi. I felt completely safe the entire time.. people were very welcoming! When I asked to take pictures- they all complied. I loved seeing the small industries that have evolved in Dharavi- recycling, pottery.. it was fascinating. Everyone visiting Mumbai should experience this educational tour.

Amazing experience with our lovely local guide. We had no idea what to expect and were expertly guided round the local community and businesses, able to ask lots of questions. So pleased we did it. Well worth it. Wear sturdy shoes!

We loved our tour of the Dharavi slum. It was fascinating to see how businesses operated and get a window into life in this poor but industrious part of Mumbai. Our guide Razak was very sincere and personable and, as a resident of the slum, gave us a valuable insight into a world very different from our own.

Our tour of Dharavi was amazing and eye opening. We went as a family with our 2 kids ages 10 and 15 and were all blown away by the variety of industries and people in Dharavi. Razak was the perfect guide - knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and warm. As someone who grew up in Dharavi he was showing us his town, his family, his neighborhood and was proud to do so. We definitely got a behind the scenes view and our kids were able to experience something very different from where they live. We highly recommend this tour. It gives a once in a lifetime perspective.

Incredibly interesting place, a city within a city! A thriving industrial hub, Daravi attracts migrant workers rather than the other way around. Our guide Malik did a grand job of bringing the place to life.

We did not know what to expect in dharavi but our young guide was brilliant. In perfect English he led us through the various industries in dharavi and provided us with a great insight into what was happening. He was welcomed by a number of the workers like a friend and arranged for lots of photos.

The Dharavi tour with Razak was one of the most informative and exhilarating tours I have ever done and I am a well travelled person! There is something very special about being guided by someone who knows the location and the local people intimately. Razak could answer any question and even though I have studied Dharavi in detail in the past he was still able to surprise us by taking us to places we had never seen before and teaching us more about this amazing community. Five out of five and ten out of ten!!! This is a must do tour for anyone who visits Mumbai. Fingers crossed the people of Dharavi are not forced to move into vertical ghettos as part of the plan to redevelop this highly productive and valuable part of this amazing city.

It was a huge experience, to see eco-system and people of Dharavi. It is far from what we imagine and has really given to me an open-mindedness. Many thanks to Razak, my Dharavi tour guide.
