BEWARE, this company outsource their tours as I found out to my detriment. We were picked up by a non-branded vehicle and a freelance driver Troll brought in the night before, who had never undertaken the 2-day south coast tour before (confirmed by driver). As a result, we got limited info, zero commentary, a constantly changing itinerary and quick stops at the designated stops. The driver also took multiple calls on his mobile (non-hands free, which unnerved us). Before arriving at an ‘alternate’ guest house at 8pm on the first night, we were informed that there was no option of an evening meal (only soup), therefore we had to stop at a petrol station to buy cold snacks. The following day we then had a ‘pit-stop’ tour on the way back to Reykjavik only stopping at some attractions for 45mins, but we stopped to buy hot dogs and ice-cream at an industrial estate instead of staying longer at the advertised attractions, baffling???? Consequently, we arrived back 4 HOURS before the advertised time. We saw actual Troll tours at the stops and if you’re lucky enough to get one of these I’m sure they deliver as advertised, but if it’s outsourced then good luck!!!! Tried to reason with Troll but they keep referencing that they reserve the right to change the itinerary due to bad weather. The weather was STUNNING on our trip. Please be aware that we booked well in advance, but we believe that Troll continues to take bookings, even though their own tour buses are full and then outsource the unlucky travellers.

Our driver/guide Thora was wonderful and super insightful! We learnt so many fascinating facts about Iceland! There were a huge number of places to visit but never felt rushed. Thora did a great job and she was incredibly kind and interested with her tour! Philip was our guide for the glacier hike and was super patient. He was also a great source of facts and helpful when putting on our equipment. We made many memorable moments during this tour, I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Iceland.

Good coverage of activities in 2 days if you don't have much time in Iceland. The stay was comfortable as well. Beautiful sceneries. The guide was kind enough to make additional stops along the way since we had some time on our hands.

Excellent 2 day tour with Haldor. Troll adjusted the itinerary so we would have the best weather for the various activities, which meant glacier hike on day 1 and the waterfalls and beaches on day 2. Haldor shared lots of Icelandic information, folklore, songs, etc. He made the drive pass quickly. The glacier hike and ice caves were impressive and really gave us an understanding of global warming. The glacier lagoon and diamond beach were otherworldly - getting there early in the morning was a treat with bright sun and very few people. The overnight guesthouse was simple and comfortable. Highly recommend this tour.

Good good good. Everything is good, especially the guide Alex! He is patient, friendly, warm heart , and introduced everything for us. Although the weather is not very nice at the second day of our journey. But we also got a really good memory!

My partner and I just completed 2 separate 2-day tours with Troll. We highly recommend them for any kind of excursion - their communication is top notch and arrangements went smoothly. We were lucky to get Kuba as a guide! He led our 2-day expedition through the South Coast, and we had a blast. He provided useful background information, funny stories, and navigated the dangerous roads with ease. We especially appreciated his flexibility with our schedule, as we were able to make the most out of our trip despite some rough weather.

Sadly I had a really bad experience with Troll Expeditions and want to caution others that when things go wrong this company isn't a safe or trustworthy option. There were other issues with the tour, but I want to focus on the one that prompted me to share with others. We faced a weather emergency and learned the hard way Troll isn't prepared and won't take accountability and responsibility when you report valid complaints. We were put in a very avoidable situation of sitting in their mini-bus for over 5+ hours simply because their vehicle was faulty and their driver untrained for handling emergencies and snowy/icy roads. It was definitely upsetting seeing as how they market themselves as prepared. We even watched while multiple other tour buses and cars passed by without issue as we sat there stuck and without heat because their air filter was filled with snow (a fact we learned later when the emergency volunteers 'rescued' us and inspected the engine). When we reached out and requested a refund we were given the typical corporate form email avoiding responsibility. After looking at the negative reviews closer I see this is their pattern. I did have a good experience with Reykjavik Outventures and they have fully working vehicles and communicative, knowledgeable and prepared tour guides who know how to drive on winter roads. Iceland is too beautiful and expensive to be stuck with a tour company not interested in valuing your time and investment. P.S. Don't hesitate as a foreigner to speak up when a tour guide's decision-making seems off. Many of the tourism workers appear very burned-out and under-trained which makes it hard for them to provide the services customers are paying such high prices for. I could sense the pressure of the tourism industry on Icelanders, like most economies that heavily rely on tourism, and do feel for both workers and customers. Also ask the company about the state of their vehicles, tour guide's level of experience, language access, and their emergency planning procedures. If you're a cautious winter driver, skip the tour and do it yourself with an online itinerary. In general the tours are overpriced and there's no guarantee you'll get an experienced tour guide like the ones mentioned in positive reviews.

I am so happy we had Magy as our tour guide. She is a boss lady, so kind, so helpful and so FUN. We did the glacier hiking including the ice cave, 2 waterfalls, black beach, diamond beach, and glacier lagoon. The weather wasn’t very helpful during the hike but the hiking guides were super professional. Regarding Northern Lights, we were very unlucky because it was very cloudy, rainy, and windy. We couldn’t see anything. But that’s okay - the whole trip was soooo worth it. One thing that disappointed me in the beginning is that when we were waiting for the hotel pickup on Day 1, we waited for 1 hour (8 AM to 9 A) without any phone number to call (since the office opens at 9 AM). This could’ve been avoided if we were given the Magy’s phone number, or any tracking system to check where the bus is - instead of waiting 1 hour with no updates. BUT, I completely forgot about this after finishing the amazing tour. This comment is just for improvement purposes. THANK YOU TROLL EXPEDITIONS. THANK YOU MAGY !!!! 🩷

There are so many tour operators out of Reykjavik offering very similar options- consider carefully! I gave 3 stars for the magnificent scenery and the glacier hike, which was amazing! But our tour guide drove in a way that made me feel unsafe, driving very fast on icy roads in near whiteout conditions- fishtailed twice and a third time drove us off the road into a snow bank, which I felt could’ve been avoided, as he was driving what felt like 60 mph in those conditions, frequently slamming on the brakes. The stops for food and snacks are at gas stations so I didn’t feel like I got an opportunity to try much authentic Icelandic food. On the other hand, the tour guide for the glacier (I think her name was Tamara, from Argentina) was fantastic! 5 stars for her, for sure. Made us feel safe while still getting a good adventure and amazing photos. The ice cave is small but beautiful and as blue as the pictures you see online. The hotel for the night is in Hofn and is basic but cozy enough- very light northern lights when we were there. Overall, it’s a lot of time in a van but it is well worth making your way down the south coast to see the scenery! Just would hope for some better food options and safer driving!

Just done the Jokulsarlon ice cave tour with super jeep and OMG WHAT A DAY. I love adventuring and have done so much but this sits at the top. The caves were stunning, the blueness of the ice just breath taking, I’d pay the money just for the jeep ride but that was the side show As in most cases you’re only as good as the guide, ours was next level, went over and above at every turn - glacier expert, safety officer, off road vehicle supremo, comedian, instagram photographer - nothing was too much trouble - Troll Expeditions you have a real asset in Biggie - what a guy Thank you so much for this memory Manchester Dave

Well planned trip our amazing tour guide was Hjalti very informative. I'm not usually a big fan of bus tours but I really enjoyed this tour it's the best way to see Iceland in my opinion. Hjalti knew the icy roads well and I felt comfortable with him. The accommodation was really nice and we had a nice view of the mountains behind a room. All the stops we made for the waterfalls and beaches were the perfect amount of time also. I would definitely recommend this company!

This tour was everything perfect. Among the bigger players, Troll makes sure you have a good time with an intimate group setting. The bus had WiFi and USB charging as well. I would highly recommend these spots over the much-hyped golden circle. True landscapes of Iceland are covered, and the hotel also has nothing around and is a country side hotel, which increases probability of viewing the northern lights. Palle, our tour guide, was AMAZING - kept us on track, on time, and gave us all the right info required to cover every spot, and of course was great dinner company! Pro tip - great hot chocolate at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall ❤️
