Excellent way to see the area in a short time Tareq was our driver, he arrived to pick up on time, drove brilliantly and took us to all the places we wanted to see He even went into a restaurant to ask if they had room for us at a busy lunch time and stayed with us until we got tickets for the temples as the queue was enormous! He was polite and chatty but not intrusive Great using the What's App as we were in contact with the company before hand and Tareq on the day We had a wonderful day

Anees, our courteous tour driver arrived at our hotel early to pick us up. He helped us navigate through the places we saw in the most timely and efficient manner. We added another stop in the itinerary and he was gracious enough to accommodate us. It was raining in the morning but the trip was made as comfortable as possible. Thank you, Anees.

Glad we opted for this. All the other tour options for Nikko from Tokyo had the same 2-3 spots, but for some reason without the popular Shinkyo red bridge. Umer was a very considerate and safe driver, esp in the twisties near Kegon falls. We got to visit the usual Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Kegon Falls, the lake and Shinkyo bridge. All customized to our pace, plus we got to eat at this quaint pizza place with unique Nikko flavors. All we could have wished for, was for the driver to help take our pics, but for the basic service and customization, this was perfect.

I don’t remember reading this in the description of the tour, but it’s important to note that the drive from central Tokyo (we were two blocks away from Shinjuku station) to Nikko takes 150 minutes each way without major traffic jams. Best case scenario, you have five hours to spend visiting Nikko sites. We avoided going on a weekend because, on weekends, the roads are jammed and the sites are packed. Our driver picked us up at 8:10am on a Wednesday and were very fortunate to be able to spend a full five hours and kept just one step ahead of the crowds. We decided to follow our driver’s advice and started by first stopping at the Shinkyo Bridge. We spent about 20 minutes admiring the view and taking pictures. We then drove a few minutes to Nikkō Toshō-gū which was magical, even with all the other tourists. We spent more time there than our driver would have liked, but it was well worth it. By the time we were done, it was lunch time. The guide wanted to visit another site first, but we insisted that we go find lunch. The soba stand by the Shinkyo Bridge and it was fantastic. At that point we realized that we only had time to see two more sites before we had to hit the road back to Tokyo and we decided to go off script and visit Kanmanganfuchi Abyss and the Bake Jizo, somewhere our driver didn’t know about. It was a great 45 minute walk alongside the river. Recommended, for sure! We ended our visit to Nikko at Tamozawa Imperial Villa. We decided to just walk the grounds because we were too tight for time to tour the actual building. Again, it was wonderful. 3:45pm arrived sooner than we had hoped and it was time to head back to Shinkuku. Our driver was kind enough to make a couple of phone calls for us and try to get us dinner reservations in a nice restaurant (we had a list) back in Tokyo. We arrived at our hotel at 6:10pm on the dot. Overall, a great experience.

We had a very disappointing experience with this "tour". First of all, it is not really a true tour - you get a driver with a van, who will take you to different spots in Nikko, drop you off and pick you up - it is basically a taxi service. Our driver Umer was very nice but we were not offered a single word of history, overview, description of where we were going, etc. Even as we were being dropped off, the instructions of where to go and what to see were limited and confusing. We also got extremely unlucky with traffic on the day of our tour (Sunday) and, as a result, did not see anything other than the shrine, red bridge and about 5 min at the waterfall. We did not have time for anything else. I appreciate the tour company cannot control the traffic, but they should have known what it could be on a Sunday and warned us or suggested we pick another day. Of the 10 hours, we spent 8 in the van driving and sitting in traffic. Also, we were shown where to have lunch and basically stood in the restaurant where no one spoke English as the old woman who worked there ran around us mumbling something in Japanese very unhappily. We stood there for 10 min and then walked out. If the driver knew that this is how the people were at this recommended restaurant, I would have expected him to come in and ensured that we were being served if no one speaks English at the restaurant. Then we had to walk the streets of Nikko looking for another place to eat. Finally, the Viator website says this is a 10-12 hour tour. Yet, the tour company sent me a note saying that any hours over 10 would be charged at 3000 yen per hour as overtime, which I did not appreciate. I cannot control traffic either, so why should I be paying extra for something the company is much better positioned to control than me?

1 Day Private Nikko World Heritage Tour (Charter) - English Speaking Driver [w/Dokotrip Co., Ltd] (10hr) (review4) Having a private flexible tour is a hassle-free and interest-focused way to go. The actual transportation was in immaculate condition and very comfortable. This was a wonderful way to experience rural Japan and see some beautiful natural scenery along with some historical locations. We recommend reviewing lunch options before the journey so they will be to your liking, and they can plan accordingly. We decided instead to get some convenience store sandwiches during the drive and ate them on the way. Our driver Hider met us early at our hotel and drove us to the Nikko area, stopping there at some beautiful scenic places. He had lived in Japan for quite a few years and explained some of the sights and answered many questions along the way. On the drive we were able to experience some very pleasant Japanese rest-stops. At the end of the drive, Hider was kind enough to drop us off at a preferred location for dinner. rsFamily, OC, California

Our guide, Anees, was professional and on time. He picked us up at the pre-arranged hotel lobby and was patient to wait for our elderly tour mates. Though there was congestion and reroutes due to the typhoon, Anees navigated them well and even took us to a very well-equipped highway rest stop! It was a restful day trip with lots of nature and beauty to soak in. Be prepared for a total of 4h in the comfortable vehicle for the journey to and fro and bring some snacks to munch on the way.

I opted for the private tour to Nikko since I wanted to customize the locations of our stops and length at each location. Our driver, Haider Shah, was very accommodating. Our first stop was Edo Wonderland. Great place to just get lost in time. We didn’t have a selfie stick so our driver offered his. How cool is that!! We took our time walking the streets of a town that is preserved in time. Haider waited patiently for us 😁😁 since we took more than 2 hours. At our second stop, Shinkyo Bridge, Haider was kind to take our photo. He picked few spots so we had different views of the amazing bridge built in1636. At our next stop, Nikko Futarasan-Jinja Shrine, Haider joined us and gracefully took pictures every time we hit a great spot (which was actually every few minutes). That place is surreal!!! At the next stop, Toshogu Shrine, Haider gave us clear instructions where to go and where to meet him when we were done. He took us to our last two stops, Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls (so worth seeing) even though that put us over our allotted time with him. Now that’s the kind of driver you want!!! And to top it off at the end of the trip he was kind to gives us pointer on Hiroshima and Itsukushima Jinja.

Excellent communication from tour company and Deo our local guide/driver. Despite the weather, we managed to see various sites and had flexibility in our itinerary. Deo was lovely and took very good care of us. Thank you!

A good day but a long drive. Suggest you don’t spend too long at bridge and waterfall as the temple and the palace are unique and require more time than we had. We recommend eat lunch in the car and don’t wSte time in restaurant as the food is average.

Tanaka was very attentive. I had a food allergy and he made sure he checked with the different restaurants to make sure they were able to accommodate my allergy then sat with us to make sure i was able to order something I could eat. He asked questions about our interests so he could adapt the tour and make sure we got to see the things that we would enjoy. A very pleasant and kind person.

Nikko in the autumn is one of the quintessential voyages one must do in their lifetime! The experience was pleasant and efficient, however, the communication with the tour company and experience with the driver could be improved. The insistence of using WhatsApp was not appreciated. While it may be the tour company's and driver's preference, insisting that I download and use this app while on this tour was annoying. I don't use this app in the US and I am not familiar with using this app, so having to download it in Japan while sitting in the car and figuring out how to use this app on the fly was not appreciated. The driver's attitude was a bit colder that I would have preferred for this line of work, however, he drove us very quickly and we made all of the stops as promised in the tour. We weren't dropped off at the main door of the Toshogu Shrine, but at the other shrines, so we were confused once we walked around to get to the "main" shrine. I would have preferred to have been dropped off at the main Toshogu Shrine.

Went for day trip to see autumn foliage and was satisfied with the service. The driver drives smoothly, the car was clean and comfortable and suitable for quite large group. The team really helped in planning the trip and gave a lot of recommendation. Since autumn is peak season in Nikko, the traffic was quite heavy. But the view is out of the world Recommended one!

My husband and I are visiting Japan with another couple. We have travelled extensively and used Viator all over the world. I would rate this Nikko tour as average 3-4 stars. Bilal was quite pleasant and punctual but it did not feel like a tour. Is was basically a driver dropping us off at the shrine, the Kegon waterfall and Lake Chuzenji. He did not provide any extra knowledge regarding the sites or the town nor did he bring us to any special parts of town that we would not have found on our own. He did bring us to the Abyss which was nice. He was on his phone a bit while driving which we did not care for. We are glad we did the tour. We saw what we wanted to see we had lots of time at the sites. It turned out to be about a 7 hour tour. It was about 2 hours from Tokyo. It was a very cold day so we did not stay outside long. The van was clean and comfortable and Bilal was nice. We would rank this as a 3-4 star.
