Bath has free city walking tours leaving daily by the walking tour sign outside the pump room of the Bath Abbey churchyard, Sun-Fri at 10:30 and 14:00 and Sat 10:30 only, additional walks May-Aug, Tues and Thurs at 18:00. The tour is about 2 hours long and was a highlight of my visit to Bath. The group that gathered at the sign was large, so four blue badge city guides split those waiting into groups of about 15 each, for a small group size. Mike C., the guide of my group, made the history of the town come alive with his lively presentation of town history, story telling and inclusion of interesting details. He welcomed questions, frequently asking if there were any, resulting in active participation of the group. He was very personable, visiting with participants as we walked from place to place. He was also extremely generous with his time, offering to answer any additional questions that people might have at the end. These tours are of exceptional quality with Mike C. an example of the amazing volunteer guides. I couldn't recommend more! Pam from Oregon, USA

I took a noon train from London to the Bath Spa station so I booked a 2-hour walking tour since I'd never visited before. I learned a lot from our very knowledgeable tour guide and these walking tours are a great value for learning a new city.

Andy was friendly, engaging and very knowledgeable. Very enjoyable way to spend two hours learning about Bath at the beginning of our stay. We then could revisit areas we wished to return to. Highly recommend

This was a most enjoyable tour . Andrew is very clever, knowledgeable, charming and fun. He worked hard to engage a group of different nationalities and ages. Our family and 14 year old really enjoyed the tour and the time passed quickly. Despite coming to Bath several times before -we learnt a great deal.Highly recommend.

Andrew was our guide and he had an encyclopedic knowledge of Bath and history in general which he delivered in a warm and entertaining way. We have had a walking tour before in Bath and Andrew was head and shoulders above. Would highly recommend.

To be honest, I wasn't sure I'd stick with this; I thought I might try a tour for half an hour or so and then peel off if it didn't tick my boxes. I was worried that it would be dry and a bit 'ambley' and hard to hear. It was a crowded Easter Saturday and there were LOTS of people when I arrived. But there were plenty of guides and I was lucky enough to be put in Adrian's group. He was brilliant right from the start - assured and clear and passionate about his subject - and so was the tour; my worries were very quickly dispelled and I stayed 'til the end and beyond, to ask more questions. Adrian was so knowledgeable and articulate, and he led the whole thing at a good pace with humour and enthusiasm and an obvious desire to give everyone a special experience. He was very open to questions and banter and he broke down some of the barriers which strangers in a group often feel. I would very definitely recommend the tour as a great thing to do, because it really brought the history of Bath to life for me and helped me appreciate what an amazing place this is.

Jane was so interesting to listen to - she brought the history of the city to life through the characters who made the city what it is today
