Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Stop At: Playa Mina, Playa Conchal Costa Rica
We’ll pick you up from your location in Tamarindo before driving approximately 17 miles / 25km or 40 minutes through scenic tracks to a hidden beach, close to the beautiful Playa Minas. Once parked, the turtle nesting beach is only accessible via a 10-15 minute walk. As the beach is inaccessible by car it remains dark and undisturbed for nesting sea turtles. This is why they choose to nest on this beach.
On reaching the beach we’ll walk looking for turtle tracks, which will lead us to where the turtles are making their nests. We’ll then sit facing the back of the turtle. observe them deposit their eggs and return to the water; a truly unforgettable experience!
It is possible to see more than one kind of turtle; including the green, black, olive ridley and if we’re lucky the leatherbacks too.
We respect the turtles at all times by closely following rules laid out by the government conservation authorities so as not to be noticed by the turtles while observing them very closely.
We’ll spend approximately an hour on the beach before returning to drop you off at your location in Tamarindo.

Tom (tour guide) met us and had us follow him (in case we wanted to leave early or stay late) to the beach, which took 30-45 minutes. Tom (tour guide) met us and had us follow him (in case we wanted to leave early or stay late) to the beach, which took 30-45 minutes. He and several other guides were all in contact with radios so they could cover more beach area watching for a turtle to come ashore. A turtle finally showed after about an hour and several different groups converged to watch the digging of the pit. The turtle wasn't successful in digging deep enough, as she hit a rather large rock. She tried at least one other spot to dig but finally gave up and headed back to the ocean. Tom was very knowledgeable about turtles, their mating habits and their life cycle. This is a must for anyone visiting Costa Rica.MarcEmilefortin

We bought this tour knowing it was no sure thing. But, my wife and I trusted that Tom (our tour guide) would find a turtle for us. He drove us to the beach, which was a good 45-minute drive. He provided our flashlights and all of the knowledge anyone would ever need about the turtles and what to ...
We bought this tour knowing it was no sure thing. But, my wife and I trusted that Tom (our tour guide) would find a turtle for us. He drove us to the beach, which was a good 45-minute drive. He provided our flashlights and all of the knowledge anyone would ever need about the turtles and what to do when we saw one. On a side note, the night was beautiful. I've never seen so many stars in the sky on a pitch-black beach and there was a thunderstorm in the distance producing amazing lightning. On top of that, we saw a close-up and amazing shooting star while waiting for a turtle. After about an hour and a half of walking, searching, and waiting a turtle had made its way onto the beach and started to create its nest. We watched as it laid what seemed like hundreds of eggs. Then she started to cover the nest which was just as amazing to watch. Once she was done, she didn't waste any time and was on her way back into the water. Just as fast as she appeared she disappeared back into the ocean. It was quite a sight to see and probably one that I will never see again. Tom was a great tour guide, nice, helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. He was around the rest of the week on the beach and made sure that we had a good time on our tour. A good guy and a good tour. My wife and I highly recommend. I'm not including any photos, because the tour is at night and they mostly use red lights so the turtle isn't disturbed. All of the pictures turned out very red and don't really capture the moment. It's more for your own memories!Aaron_C
