Overview

We will travel to SAN JUAN CHAMULA, indigenous village near San Cristobal de Las Casas, to witness nad participate in a traditional celebration of CARNIVAL at the end of February.
Before going to the carnival, we will drive to ZINACANTAN, where we will visit a local family. We will learn about textiles they produce and will try to make hand-made tortilla which will accompany our breakfast.
Transport is provided and included in the price as well as pick up from your accommodation, center zone.

Chiapas is a state rich in indigenous culture, traditions, customs that are expressed through colorful parades and ancestral dances. Each town has its own dress and masks.
The experience is more than visual: it becomes unforgettable thanks to the explanations about the roots of the customs and the legends that you will hear. Thanks to that, you will see it from another perspective. It's not just a parade or a mask: there's a lot of history and faith behind it!

Stop At: Iglesia de San Lorenzo, Zinacantan Mexico

The guide will give you explanations about the fusion of prehispanic religion with the catholic, symbolism and significance of this indigenous culture of Azteca origins. Don; t miss the legend of a Jaguar! We will observe celebratios inside the church and fiesta in the main square.

Stop At: Domicilio Conocido S/N, Centro C.P. 29350 Zinacantan, Chiapas, Zinacantan 29350 Mexico

We will visit a local family of artisans: try to make tortilla by hand and guacamole which then will make a part of our breakfast. Try on the traditional costume and learn about textile production.

The guide will tell you about the tradition of the Day of the Dead in the Mexican culture and beliefs of this Tzotzil people of Chamula and its Mayan origins.

The church of Chamula is the main reason to visit the village: inside, you will enter the magic and sacred world of rituals of indigenous people of Chamula that you will not see anywhere else. your guide will explain you the symboism and significance of the rituals so you can understand the magic of what you see.

Stop At: 29328 Romerillo, Chis., Mexico

ROMERILLO is a Tzotzil community. According to the belief of the indigenous people of the El Romerillo community, the souls of the deceased come walking to visit their relatives every November 1st. the visit to the Romerillo pantheon, located on a mountain crowned with 22 enormous Tzotzil crosses, is a very genuine experience, rough in some way.

ZINACANTAN, indigenous people of Tzeltal culture. The pantheon will be decorated with an abundance of flower arrangements, since flower cultivation is one of the main activities of Zinacantan. At an altitude of 2, 700 m, the pantheon offers a beautiful view and a mystical air.
