Overview

English / Chinese-speaking government licensed local guide will escort the participants the best photo shooting spots of Mt. Fuji in the mountain foot town Shimoyoshida, including world-famous “Mt. Fuji over Pagoda and Cherry” place. Participants can also learn about people’s life in the old mountain foot town, and enjoy making Matcha tea with Mt. Fuji spring water !

The town of Shimoyoshida has a long history as the town for Mt. Fuji climbers. Back in 18th century, coincided with the first wave of mass tourism boom, it attracted pilgrims worshiping Mt. Fuji as sacred mountain. Walking down the streets, you will feel the enthusiasm of the old time travelers. English/Chinese speaking local guide who has government license will escort the participants to the very best Mt. Fuji photo shooting spots.

Shimoyoshida town was also one of the major silk textiles producing regions back in late 19th century towards mid-20th century, the town was prosperous with textile industry as well as mass tourism industry. Chemical material textiles taking the place of silk, and mass tourism’s destinations being diversified, the clock of the town seems to have stopped ticking. Walking down the street, you will feel like sent back to the world of 50 years ago.

On your way walking through the town, you have a chance to fill your bottle with fresh spring water – snows fell on Mt. Fuji, filtered and purified through the layers of lava, and gushed out after 20-40 years long subterranean travel. Local people believe that the water contains natural and spiritual power of the sacred mountain. After walking, you have a unique opportunity to make your own Matcha tea with Mt. Fuji spring water you have just drawn.

Modern days town life has created new “Image of Japan”. Standing on the town’s shopping street, you can see Mt. Fuji at the end of the street with numerous electrical cables crossing in the air over the mountain. It might associate you with some strange future town’s sceneries from Ridley Scott’s film “Blade Runner”, and is attracting many photo takers from overseas.

Stop At: Arakurayama Sengen Park, 3353-1 Arakura, Fujiyoshida 403-0011 Yamanashi Prefecture

The "Must" place to visit is Arakura Chureito Pagoda; located halfway up on the hill facing Mt. Fuji. From here, you can shoot Mt. Fuji with Pagoda and cherry blossoms (blooming season mid-April) in a single frame; an “Ultimate Image of Japan”. This place was chosen by an internationally recognized photographer Elia Locardi as the 9th place of “21 Places Every Photographer Should Visit Before They Die” back in 2015.
