Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Stop At: Perugia, Perugia, Province of Perugia, Umbria
With a pristine medieval centre and an international student population, Perugia is Umbria’s largest and most cosmopolitan city. Its centro storico (historic centre), seemingly little changed in more than 400 years, rises in a helter-skelter of cobbled alleys, arched stairways and piazzas framed by solemn churches and magnificent Gothic palazzi (mansions). Reminders of its lively and often bloody past are everywhere, from ancient arches and medieval basilicas to Renaissance frescoes by the likes of Perugino and Raphael.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Assisi, Assisi, Province of Perugia, Umbria
Crowned by a ruined castle, Assisi spills downhill to its famous Basilica of St. Francis, named after its hometown boy who made very, very good. Francis' legacy is now Assisi's basic industry, and mementos of his days in Assisi are everywhere — where he was baptized, a shirt he wore, a hill he prayed on, and the church where a vision changed his life. While this beautifully preserved Umbrian town bursts with flash-in-the-pan Francis fans in summer, even just a block or two off the main drag you can find pockets of serenity that, it's easy to imagine, must have made Francis feel at peace.
Duration: 4 hours
Stop At: Deruta, Deruta, Province of Perugia, Umbria
Deruta has long been known for its majolica ceramics. The blue-and-yellow metallic-oxide glazing technique imported from Majorca in the 15th century has been a mainstay of local industry for centuries and today the town still counts more than 100 workshops. You can learn about Deruta’s production history at the town’s hilltop museum, otherwise the main activity here is shopping.

Our driver and gracious host; Livio, picked us up promptly for our tour as scheduled. We were the only ones, so the tour was intimate and entertaining. We left Rome and headed to Perugia, Assisi, and Deruta. Livio shared his knowledge of the towns and left the day up to us where we could spend as much time in each town as the schedule allowed. He suggested things to see and then left us to explore. The day was truly unforgettable. Each town was breathtaking. I would definitely recommend this tour.
