Its real name is the Flavio Amphitheatre, but is more widely known as the Colosseum, because of the large bronze statue of Nerone which was placed in the second century AD . The exterior consists of four architectural orders superimposed. Even today, the Colosseum is the largest amphitheater in the world, used in ancient times as the place for fights between gladiators and hunting simulations involving of wild animals.

The Spanish Steps (Italian: Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti) are a set of steps in Rome, Italy, climbing a steep slope between the Piazza di Spagna at the base and Piazza Trinità dei Monti, dominated by the Trinità dei Monti church at the top. Gian Lorenzo Bernini designed the square almost 100 years later, including the massive Doric colonnades, four columns deep, which embrace visitors in "the maternal arms of Mother Church". A granite fountain constructed by Bernini in 1675 matches another fountain designed by Carlo Maderno in 1613
