Saint Petersburg, Russia

On your marks, get set, GO! Your Sts Petersburg sports tour begins in the heart of the city at the Hermitage in Palace Square. A popular historic site, the square has played host to many sporting events and competitions over the years and is also turned into a fabulous ice-skating rink for amateurs and enthusiasts to show off their blade skills for a few months every year.
Next, we’ll descend into Sportivnaya Metro Station, where we’ll admire impressive neo-classical murals of the ancient Olympics and spend some time talking about the history of sport in the USSR and Russia.
The station is located close to the home of St. Petersburg’s football team at the Petrovsky Stadium and adjacent to Yubileyny Sports Palace which hosts a wide range of sports including basketball and ice hockey and is a prominent training centre for Russian figure skaters.
We’ll briefly visit the museum of our local ice hockey team, CKA, and then spend some time browsing for sports souvenirs and memorabilia in the gift shop.
A brief hop on the tram or bus will take us to our next stop, a friendly local sports bar, where we’ll enjoy a beer together and maybe catch a game with the locals. This is one of the city’s most popular bars for sport enthusiasts and is sure to be packed during this year’s World Cup. It’s also got a fascinating history that your guide will happily share with you over a pint.
After all that sport chat, it’s about time that you had a go at some yourself! Immerse yourself in an epic battle of table football with your guide and unleash your inner Olympian!
