What to expect
Hiking: 10 km and 500m of elevation gain. Walking along an enchanting path in the woods (10 km and 500m in altitude) you will reach a cave hidden in the mountain: “Limeri”. This cave, very important during the second war, was a base for espionage for the partisan movements and home to a radio station.
Continuing, passing by the small church of Ag. Ioannis, you reach the top of the 2nd mountain of the island: Mount Akramitis. Here the green meets the "Aegean blue" for a breathtaking view. The whole area is included in the European network of habitats "NATURA 2000" and is protected as a "monument of nature" because, in addition to the particular morphology, the natural beauty and the dense forest of pines and cypresses, it collects unique ecosystems of wild fauna and flora . The descent passes through a mainly stony path and boasts a fascinating view.

The hike was on a well maintained path. The views were spectacular. Bei wunderschönem Wetter Ende September haben wir heute diese schöne Tour mit unserem sympathischen Guide Elisa absolviert. Die abwechslungsreiche Landschaft und die beeindruckenden Aussichten auf die Küste und das Landesinnere haben sich mehr als gelohnt. Gekürt wurde die Tour mit der Besichtigung einer kleinen, versteckt gelegen Höhle, in welcher zwei Widerstandskämpfer im 2. Weltkrieg für 2 Jahre ausharrten um die Flotenbewegungen der Deutschen per Funk zu melden. Vor dem Abstieg bekamen wir zudem noch eine kleine schmackhafte Überraschung liebevoll serviert. Wir können diese Tour und das Team von Hiking Rhodes sehr empfehlen. Das Buchen der Tour erfolgte übrigens unkompliziert per WhatsApp und die Bezahlung per Paypal. Wherever we go, we go for a hike. When looking for a guided hike in Rhodes we stumbled across Hiking Rhodes and were surprised by how many different hikes the company offers. Booking was pretty easy, communication was great. One of the best parts however was our great guide Elisa. She is such a treasure. Very welcoming, smiling, accommodating, knowledgeable and full of energy. The hike was not too difficult, yet still challenging at times. Visiting the cave was an unique experience. The view from the top is just outstanding! On the way down Elisa prepared a lovely picnic for us, including homemade olive oil. Very thoughtful!
