Piazzale Montelungo, 50129 Florence FI, Italy
This unforgettable journey starts with a visit to the charming San Gimignano, a world-famous walled town located on a hilltop that has remained intact throughout the centuries, renowned for its tall towers, wonderful frescoes and many other valuable works of art. Here the tour guide will take you to the historical center where you will have around two hours of free time for a fascinating discovery. Just a short distance away from San Gimignano, don't miss the hamlet of Monteriggioni, a charming medieval village enclosed by its famous walls, which remain standing to this day.
From Monteriggioni, crossing the gently rolling hills, a short ride will take you to a cozy Winery, where you can relax and enjoy the fantastic world of Chianti with its wine and local products: taste three fine wines and balsamic vinegar and enjoy a 3-course lunch made of locally sourced products followed by 'cantucci e vin santo'.
Later on, in Siena, you will meet your local guide who will lead you on a comprehensive guided tour of the historic center (if selected), starting from the famous Basilica of San Domenico, a jewel of Renaissance art built in the 13th century and dedicated to St. Catherine of Siena. Strolling along the narrow medieval streets of the city, lined with beautiful squares and historic shops, passing through Piazza del Campo where you can see Palazzo Pubblico (town hall), you will see the spectacular 12th-century Siena Cathedral and admire its magnificent architecture and splendor of the polychrome marbles.
Choose the option that includes a guided tour of the famous Cathedral of Siena to discover the beauty of its treasures and works of art kept inside: the floor decorated with mosaics (during the uncovering period), Donatello's St. John the Baptist, the rose window by Duccio di Buoninsegna, the marble pulpit by Nicola Pisano and the Piccolomini Library which kept a rich collection of manuscripts. You will also have some free time to end your perfect day enjoying the unique atmosphere of this amazing city, before the return to Florence in the evening.
The stop at Montereggioni could be omitted and more time allowed for the stop at San Gimignano as a constructive criticism but overall well run and thoroughly professional and enjoyable. Thanks
I will really recommend it!
