My bird watching tour with Oscar from Nasua Tours was amazing. This guy has over 16 years of experience birdwatching and touring in Monteverde, and knows every single bird species by song/call and observation. A huge advantage when watching birds in such a biodiverse area. Oscar is very friendly, interested and passionate, you can clearly see this when he points out the birds to you. After so many years, to see so much enthusiasm still, is really amazing. He is also flexible depending on what you want to see. If you for example are really focused on seeing a Quetzal, he will spend more time on this without hesitation and will cross the park to get you to your target. Besides birds, he also knows a lot about the area itself and the cloud forest. Trivia about butterflies, orchid flowers, trees etc. It is all there!! Doing the tour with him is just a very nice learning experience. But more importantly, Oscar is a humble and friendly human being. He will help out people on the street or in the park when they struggle with spotting a bird, or when other hikers get their car stuck in the sidewalk. He did this during my trip without hesitation, which really shows his kind character. I highly recommend booking a trip with him. You will see countless birds and will have a nice experience. Perfect option for semi-experienced birdlovers! Tip: it is advantageous to have your own binoculars and bird-eye. Although Oscar has fantastic spotting gear with him, it will definitely help if you also have something like binoculars to spot the birds faster. Working together increases the chances of seeing birds a lot! Thanks again Oscar for this fantastic experience! Oscar, our guide, led three birding and wildlife tours for the four of us over the course of 4 days.......each exceptional! He is very friendly, knowledgeable and amazing at finding the wildlife! After studying the cloud forest for many years, he knows where to go to see the birds and animals his guests would like to see. During our tours we saw the emerald toucanet, keel-billed toucan, resplendent quetzal, ornate hawk eagle, three-wattled bell bird, long tailed manakin, coatis, spider and capuchin monkeys and so much more! We had a fantastic private birding tour in the Curi-Cancha reserve of Monteverde. Our guide, Rodiber Martinez was experienced, talented and patient. He made sure we not only saw a wide variety of both common and rare Costa Rican birds but also learned about the history of the reserve and the area around it. Great fun, a good meal and serious birding…this tour had it all! This was an awesome tour!! Highlight of our trip. Oscar was so knowledgeable, kind, funny, and passionate about what he does. In general, we highly recommend to take a guide especially in a dense forest such as Monteverde and Oscar knew exactly where to search for the requested Quetzal! We thank Oscar for such a wonderful morning!

We had the most incredible birding experience with Oscar this morning. On our wish list was a Toucan and Quetzal, we managed our expectations because these are rare birds, but by some miracle we managed to see both within the first hour! Oscar has so much experience of the cloud forest and so many friends he makes it look easy to find the animals you’re wanting to see. He’s something like the godfather, the don corlione of the cloud forest. His equipment and base of knowledge are second to none, rest assured he’s the best guide you could ask for, and enjoy!
