It was a very long day with pickup at the meeting point around 9 am. We then took a bus ride down to catch the boat. There were 2 boats going out at the same time, one for English and Italian speaking people and one for French and Spanish speaking people. We stopped at the volcano and hiked up to the top then for a swim in the hot springs, then stopped for lunch in Thirassa and finally were dropped off in Oia around 4-4:30. Everything we saw was beautiful and fun and informative.
My only complaint is that the boat is very crowded. I would opt next time for a smaller, more private tour. It's a lot more expensive but worth it in my opinion. If you don't mind crowds then it should be just fine. I also wish I knew they were dropping us off in Oia with HOURS to kill until the sunset. I might've chosen differently. It's a very nice and upscale town and we were stuck walking around for over 4 hours in our bathing suits and sweat.
I would skip that part and go another night on your own. Also, you can take a donkey up the ~300 steps to get into town or walk. As I am an animal lover and was not fond of how they were treating the donkeys, we opted to walk up. And that is a WORKOUT!!
Overall though a very nice day.
Pickup and drop off at the hotel. Well planned excursion. An interesting hike climbing the volcano caldera, with a tour guide detailing everything. Worth it for the views at the top. Also enough time to explore as well. An exciting swim at the hot springs, watch your white parts on the swim wear, will go yellow from the sulphur. We visited Thirassia, and were given various options for the island stop over. Lunch, swim or climb up to the main town. We opted for lunch followed by a swim. Wish the time was longer! We carried on via boat to Oia, and got dropped off. The bus took us back to our hotel. Only downside was the slight disorganisation at the start as every queued in one area waiting for their tickets, and we were kept in the dark. We got moved from one line for a boat to another. Otherwise good time!
We were hearded like cattle onto and off of the ships without much direction for English speaking tourists after the volcano stop. Otherwise, for the price, the views were beautiful from the volcano but time there wasn’t long enough once you got through the crowds to enjoy the volcano. The swim stops were nice but so crowded.
