Samaria Gorge Trek: Full-Day Excursion from Heraklion
Overview
Enjoy a challenging trek through one of the longest and most famous gorges in Europe. On this excursion from Heraklion you’ll marvel at natural wonders throughout the day, from the White Mountains to thousand-year-old forests and more.
Your escort will be there to explain all the necessary information about your hike and provide you the tickets for the entrance and ferry boat. Entrance fee : 5€ (children up to the age of 15 years old are free of charge). Ferry fee : 13€ ( Sougia ferry). These fees have to be paid to the guide upon arrival.
After your breakfast you enter the Samaria Gorge. At the end of the trek you’ll visit the village of Agia Roumeli, where you’ll find a number of taverns, bars and shops. Enjoy some free time to take a swim or have some lunch.
Late in the afternoon you’ll board a boat that will take you from Agia Roumeli to Sfakia, where the bus will be waiting to transfer you back to the starting point.

- The 5 to 6-hour trek is challenging. You must have good trekking shoes or at least a sturdy pair of trainers
- Pickup begins up to 15 minutes before tour starts and is done from central meeting points near the hotels, only in the areas of Malia, Stalis, Hersonisos, Anissaras, Analypsi, Gouves, Gournes, Heraklio, Ammoudara, Agia Pelagia/Lygaria, Fodele)
- This trek is not recommended for children under the age of 6, pregnant women or anyone with health problems

My husband and I enjoyed this challenging 16km hike down a mountain goat path through the beautiful Samaria Gorge. “Stunning pictures.”The map indicating distances and the time you should be there was very helpful and it was nice that you could set your own pace. The only negative was that it is so far away (3.5 hour bus ride there and back plus almost an hour ferry on the way home) making for a very long day. I would definitely recommend having a really good sleep the night before and to wear good supportive shoes with treads.AndreeaRamona_T

The tour was great overall, the only downside is the time. We are mountain people and 6 hours were insufficient for us because we wanted to enjoy the scenery more.

The trip took waaaaaaay too long, about 7 hours more than it stated in the website (!!!) They say there is a guide, the truth is, i NEVER saw the guide throughtäout the whole samaria trekking, for all i know, i could have died in a ditch somewhere along the way and be founds months after. Et surtout le chauffeur a certainement eu son permis dans un kinder surprise, je ne savais pas qu’on pouvait doublé un autre auto car, à très haute vitesse, dans un tournant, DANS LES MONTAGNES!!! En plus d’avoir vu le vide, nous avons sérieusement vu la mort à nombreuses reprises! Je ne vous recommande pas
