Had a great time with a small group (6 pax). Melissa, our driver/guide was very accommodating and friendly. Would recommend this to anyone who is not into very rigid schedules (like me).

Michael was a great guide who got us everywhere safely. Stopping by Lake Rotarua was amazing. I thought we were just going to drive by the lake but we were able to get out of the car to take some of the most amazing pictures. I didn't have tickets to the Maori cultural show at Te Puia but Michael & Cheeky Kiwi Travel were able to purchase tickets for me since I wanted to attend. Michael gave great advice to one of the tour members so we were all able to get front row seats for the show. I thought there was enough time after the show to eat and walk around to see the geyser as well as surrounding area. Even though it was a long day, the pictures I captured that day were well worth it!We booked this tour at last minute as our cruise was not able to stop Tauranga due to poor weather. We booked this tour at last minute as our cruise was not able to stop Tauranga due to poor weather. We were picked up by our guide John at our hotel, within the time frame given. The others in our group were picked up at their hotels and then we were on our way to Te Puia. John gave plenty of information about the area during our drive there. We were lucky to be sitting in the front of the van traveling to Te Puia. I think our tour was actually a few tours combined. People weren't sure what they had signed up for and John took 45 minutes to get all the tickets sorted out. I think each of us thought that once we got on the van, that we were all doing the same tour. It would have been nice to know what the time frame of the day was and what we were actually doing. Most of our group left Te Puia and three of us stayed behind for the Maori Cultural Show. John explained where to meet him when he returned to pick the three of us up. When we got back on the van, we were seated at the back. John talked alot, but we were unable to hear anything he said on the drive back. I asked several times to use the headset, but he said his voice was loud enough. It wasn't. We didn't hear anything. Eventually I stopped telling him I couldn't hear anything. Not sure if the headset had stopped working, but it was very annoying to sit at the back of the van, knowing the driving was talking about the area, and not hear anything. But the people in the front seats were either sleeping or listening to their headsets. I've taken alot of tour and this is the first time this has happened. It definitely was not the experience we wanted. AS the drive was about 2.5 hours each way.Very disappointed that only one park was open ! I highly recommend this trip as a learning adventure and cultural enrichment trip. However, do not over plan, as there is just enough time to enjoy the entirety of the center without rushing. The hangy buffet was wonderful and worth the extra cost. We watched the geysers erupt for 30+ minutes as we dined and enjoyed the gorgeous veranda. The drive is long but Michael our driver and guide made it interesting and fun. He is amazing!
